Le Stu
what is pop? It's music from the 80s, where the median age for the purchase of music was greater than eighteen years old. This resulted in a need for sophisticated, albeit throw away music, often employing new technology such as the 'synthesiser'. The trend continued into the '90s but the median age of the consumer plummeted resulting in a general lack of sophistication in the production of music. In the 21st century, sales of music collapsed and all consumption of pop music is based on an entirely irony based market, where people still listen to whatever crap the production houses desperately pump out, but in a more smug, self-satisfied fashion.

Dan G
would that really come under "pop"?You could argue it.In this case 'Pop' stands for popular music, and Comfortably Numb is one of if not the biggest song from one of the biggest selling artists of all time, so I guess you could say it would come under the label 'pop'. (although by this definition, technically this could mean Iron Maiden are more 'pop' than the Cheeky Girls).I originally started this thread to be about pop songs by pop bands, but people's responses have proved that the parameters of what constitutes 'pop' aren't fixed.
