Every Friday night he would get pissed in the Simpsons Hotel bar, then go to the International Casino next door, sit there drinking till 4am, then get a full fried breakfast (!) and go home to his bed at around 5am. Then presumably up at 9 to go to the match. I knew some folk who worked at Simpsons at the time.

A nice lad though, I worked at AFC at the time of 9/11 and watched events unfold with him in the canteen. CLAIM TO FAME!

Bigsby
Ben Thornley had a pretty bad injury though didn't he? I seem to recall he was independently wealthy and therefore the fitba was a bit of a hobby. Seem to recall him scoring a peach of a volley on his debut? (Or at least one of his first games)Ditto Leon Mike, remember him scoring on his debut. Can also remember Derek Whyte having to explain the "follow the leader" thingy they used to do, right before they took a corner. Also remember him and Mackie scoring to put us 2-1 up against the Huns, but I think Phil Maguire giften them a pen for an equaliser. Hugh_Jazz
Didn't Thornley end up getting reet fat?Yeah, I saw him in hotel in Manchester a couple of years ago when i was down there playing golf and he was looking a tad rotund. He also wins the comedy accent award, for his almost ultrasonic Salford accent, a la Ashley Peacock from Corrie. Chris
In other comedy news, Alex Miller's been sacked from his job in Japan. Shame. It's also been confirmed that Ibrahimovic has officially signed for Barca now. 40million plus Eto'o and a loan deal for Hleb. Madness, worst transfer of the decade probably. Soda Jerk
In other comedy news, Alex Miller's been sacked from his job in Japan. Shame. It's also been confirmed that Ibrahimovic has officially signed for Barca now. 40million plus Eto'o and a loan deal for Hleb. Madness, worst transfer of the decade probably. If you're an Inter fan, it's probably the BEST transfer of the decade. Hleb is a great player too, but he's going to struggle to break into the Barca midfield no matter how good he is, so there's a chance he'll stay at Inter. Eto'o is awesome. Sharper, faster and better than Ibrahimovic.A straight swap would have made sense in terms of player values I suppose, but it is theoretically valuing Ibrahimovic at 65million, plus a loan of a great player. Absolutely mental.

Absolutely mental. That's it, I don't even think Ibrahimovic is that bad a player (Serie A top scorer last season), but there's no way on earth he's worth 40million AND Eto'o. It's just stupid. Inter fans must have spent the last week in a giant laughing fit.
Guest Gladstone
Ibrahimovic is just not THAT good. He's a talented football player yes, very talented even. I'll admit I've not seen him in action much lately, but he's always come across as a bit lazy, and not much of a team player. A bit like a more skilful Berbatov. What the fuck are Barca thinking?EDIT: Last seasons Serie A top scorer? Didn't realise that. That merits being rated highly, but not 40 million, and certainly not 40 million plus Eto'o! But football has just went completely off the scale nuts this summer (at the same time as an economic recession as well, the bastards)
Bigsby
man city 'close' (according to sky sports news) to signing kolo toure from arsenal for 16 million!I don't care what anybody says about the team taking time to gel, too many strikers etc, I reckon Man City will finish ahead of Arsenal this year. Villa weren't far off last year with a fairly ordinary squad.
Soda Jerk
A bit like a more skilful Berbatov.I'd probably go for a faster Berbatov than a more skillful one. He's a bit clumsy with the ball at his feet trying to take players on. God, even John O'Shea kept him quiet for a full 180 minutes. Berbatov, despite being mostly shite, is slick with the ball. He's got mad skill. Just lacks pace, and effort, and emotion, and awareness, and most other traits that a striker needs.
Hugh_Jazz
BBC SPORT | Football | My Club | P | Plymouth | Aberdeen target to join PlymouthHaven't seen the whole story, but EE website says that Dinghus wants to meet with the directors about his budget. I know times are tough, but we're light years away from even being able to sign shite players on loan deals. If only so we can secure a few extra season ticket sales, the directors are going to have to stick their necks out and bankroll a signing or two......one unknown reserve 'keeper isn't going to attract many fans still undecided about whether to bother this season.
