To be honest, he's not the only one. I have played a gig for a certain local promoter both as a band and in solo mode and, despite being promised payment both times, I received nothing. Also, on both occassions he never introduced himself to the band or me. Indeed, when myself and two other locals supported a touring Scandanavian band at The Tunnels recently, he failed to introduce himself to any of the locals, or thank them for playing and bringing the majority of the crowd down...or speak to any of them regarding payment. And having contacted him retrospectively regarding payment I was promised he'd "sort payment out". That was five weeks ago, yet I have received nothing from him.

The new generation starts here.

Im still pissed off at a promoter who promised us cash - after we took circa 50 (sold 35 actual tix and more on the door) ppl at 7 a ticket earleier in the year and got paid feck all.....

I just dont trust anyone when it comes to getting paid to be honest. Only do it if its a worthwhile gig....i.e playing with a band i like or i know its our gig when we're sure to take at least a fair crowd with us.

I'll offer the exact same deal but for 95. We once pricked about with our own PA system for our first DIY gig in a public hall, though admittedly I didn't have much to do with the sound...

I will be assisting in another DIY gig at Malt Mill at the end of next month, so I'm pretty much an expert.

Ah, that will explain why I had no idea who you meant. I've never worked with him. Put our name forward for a couple of gigs and got no reply so just ignored the fact he existed after that as it seemed a waste of time.

I heard at the weekend from someone who's mates with him that he's got it made at Tunnels because he gets a decent flat fee just for booking a band in there, regardless of how many folk turn up, which would explain why he didn't care if you sold many tickets. I don't know if that's a true story or not though...

It always pisses me off when promoters don't make themselves known to the bands when they turn up - there's quite a lot of them to be honest. I've only ever met a couple of promoters at gigs we've played at.

The first time we played at the Capitol in Glasgow, we were met at the door by the promoter who proceeded to be totally welcoming and getting us help with our stuff down the stairs, getting us food etc - we couldn't believe what was happening!

I'm starting to promote gigs now and I will always do my best to keep bands of what's happening and be there (and be fucking sober) on the night of the gigs if I can. If I can't be there, I'll make sure another of my band is there to co-ordinate things and make sure the bands know what's happening! And I'll also do my best to make sure bands get paid!!

I've never dealt with AGP, he added us on Myspace (or vice versa) and I read on his page "We don't put on gigs for unsigned bands", so I just thought "tosser" and removed him.

Yeah, I remember reading that on his myspace which put me off a lot too.

"I'm too good for you unsigned bands"

Fuck off.

"I'm too good for you unsigned bands"

Fuck off.

Exactly my sentiments.

"If you don't have a record deal then you're not good enough. We'll furiously suck the cocks of any band with a contract, and all the other unsigned minions can have the support slots as an afterthought. However, as soon as you get signed, prepare to be noshed off."

BANDS LOOKING FOR GIGS - PLEASE READ!!!

Current mood: fabulous

The first thing to note is that we do not put on shows for unsigned bands as a general rule (contact info@thetunnels.co.uk) for this

We book signed bands. We do however when we can offer support slots to suitable bands who can take a crowd with them.

If you wish to support any of our bands please leave a reply here including

BAND NAME

MEMBERS NAMES/AGES

BRIEF HISTORY

PREVIOUS HIGH PROFILE SUPPORTS

HOW MANY PEOPLE YOU WILL TAKE (be honest - nothing worse than exaggerated figures!)

ANY OTHER INFO

Please only leave a message once. We keep all bands who contact us on file - We cannot and will not reply to all postings but will keep you in mind and be in touch if we like you and think you will work.

Bear in mind a lot of supports need approved by the headliners management so its not all in our control!

We look forward to hearing from you!

And all coming from a guy who (as far as I know) was never in a band himself. It's great to get touring bands into places like the Tunnels, but generally the touring bands that are the size that play in the Tunnels need the local support bands to bring down the crowd.

Everyone starts out without a record deal, and it's tossers like him who stifle local talent from ever getting one.

Dave's right, Ross has put on shows for some really good touring bands (Lightspeed Champion, Art Brut, Late of the Pier), and given some decent support slots at these gigs to local bands. It's just his treatment of local bands that pisses me off.

That was my sentiment too. I don't know the guy, but he has ignored any contact I tried to make with him, and from what I've heard from the other people on here who have dealt with him, he's put local bands on to fill a space, but has treated them like shit.

The message on myspace just comes across as if he thinks unsigned bands are worthless - maybe it just needs to be worded differently.

But fair play for giving out the support slots when he has - that is to his credit.

Ah goody...

Where to begin!

Firstly with the website message - Dave is correct above - I book the signed/touring bands because that is what I set out to do i.e continue to bring quality bands to Aberdeen. I have absolutely nothing against local bands and in fact think Aberdeen has a very healthy bunch of good bands that I enjoy putting on as support. I in fact managed 10 easy wishes and manage Free Korps so have a keen interest in local talent getting the recognition they deserve! I just feel there are plenty people of other people putting on local gigs and that wasnt what I wanted to do.

Secondly those bands pissed off about not being paid - I can only apologise. I generally make no promises to pay locals when putting them on as supports. I will always pay a band well when they take a decent amount of people with them ie The Trade who are not even from Aberdeen always make an effort to take about 50 people with them and will always get paid about 75-100 for gigs if they do that. I refuse to pay bands who cant even be arsed to get their own mates along. To anyone above who feels they have brought people and I have said I would pay them please get in touch with me again and I WILL sort that. Unfortunately I have had 5 people who potentially read, replied and said they will sort things that get messaged on myspace so sometimes things get missed. This has changed now so should be no further worries.

To bands that I have not replied to and so automatically become a "tosser" - I get about 100 messgaes a week. I put on about 20 gigs a year. Obviously I cannot have 5200 support bands nor do I have the time to reply to everyone to say no.I do get in touch (as my message says) - when I have a suitable show for you. I put that message on so as not to offend anyone who thought I wasnt replying.

I love local music or I wouldnt be working for Tunnels and Drummonds as management and I woulddnt even be bothered about the music here at all.

For those saying it appears that I dont care that you didnt sell any tickets - well I dont, I just wont use you again. I put you on once, if you try, I put you on at bigger shows. It makes no sense for you to fuck yourselves over. Its the bands that take people that ALL promoters will use. Not just me.

Maybe we should all just be grateful we arent in Glasgow where the chances are you will have to pay the promoter to play the show, not the other way round.

For locals who take 5-10 people then no, I probably wont pay you. Fucks sake you live here, have friends - if you cant even do that then why should I. It costs me on average of 600 to put a gig on. It doesnt take a genius to work out that at 5-10 a ticket I need a lot of people to break even. After I have done that I will pay locals regardless of their effort with ticket sales BUT if I dont break even I am not ashamed to say I will pay on basis of merit.

Lastly I would say I have given a lot of locals an opportunity to play to hundreds of people they normally wouldnt have in the past year. I am not pretending to be perfect. I started this a year ago, am in no way loaded and so cant throw money about, but am trying to continue the good work people have done here before.

If anyone has any problem with me please let me know in a more sensible way than calling me a tosser on here and i will respnd personally!

On a more positive note thanks to all the locals who have made the effort and will have been rewarded.

Oh and just because I have a few beers at a gig also doesnt make me a tosser! I have a full time job too and so feel entitled to enjoy a beer when I get the chance!

Thanks

Ross
