Neil
The Tunnels got my vote - it's the best live music venue from that selection in my humble opinion. This is the vote for Best Venue last time I checked and not Best Club or Pub - so drinks prices and selection should be irrelevant if you ask me. You don't need to drink in order to see bands.
framheim
no but atmosphere is important in a venue and as such every little detail can count. obviously i'm not being entirely serious when i say i voted solely on which strong beverage the venues sell but even if i was it's the fudge awards. if you can't judge a fudge award on booze then the whole worlds turning to shit

Sorry, I know the poll`s based on music venue and not drinking venue...but ADDLESTONES!!! ADDLESTONES!!!Oh, and it`s bloody good when a good bands on and you get a wee heodbanging session at the front. tremendoso

(In my experience).I'm not voting in this category... I feel like I would be cheating on the Doc... You two timing heartless cows! I will add that I don't have a favourite venue and never have to be honest. Just depends on what is on and the mood I'm in. Drummonds lately has had an amazing sound though and again, only on my experience, the best in the city of late. That changes all the time though... I'm being diplomatic and again it is dependent on the night...There should be an award for every fucking venue putting on alternative music!(cop out by Jim)

*Amy*
The Moorings over Tunnels any day. Always has an atmosphere, way friendlier staff and cheaper drinks (with nice student discount). Loses when it comes to the bogs though...
Flash@TMB
This is the vote for Best Venue last time I checked and not Best Club or Pub - so drinks prices and selection should be irrelevant if you ask me. You don't need to drink in order to see bands.Putting aside that this vote is just a bit of fun... You've raised an interesting point and having spent the last almost 4 years living and breathing this, along the way I've compiled a mental wish list. The single most important thing to get right is the room itself, and that means aquiring the right building. It's sad to admit but these I often look at various random buildings and mentally evaluate them for venue potential. There aren't many that have the correct proportions, or scope to house the correct layout. So if you want to take a purely objective view on what makes the perfect venue then the following things are very important, I'm not saying this list is definitive though, and it will not appeal to all tastes, for instance some people like the band down on the floor with them. But WTF here goes:Room. This should be an empty oblong cuboid, from memory I recall the ideal proportions as being twice as long as it is wide, with the height being equal to the width. The floor should be flat and level right through, and *COUGH* fairly rigid. There should be nothing to obstruct the view of the stage, and everyone in the room should have a good view of the stage. The room should contain a good mixture of different types of materials. The aim is to make the room sonically neutral (the best room is no room at all LOL). With the correct proportions there should be no requirement for delay speakers. A balcony is optional.Stage. This should be at the far end of the room. It should be head height and as deep and wide as possible. There should be a facility for a drum riser when required. The stage should be sonically dead. Ideally there should be ample room to house the equipment for several bands already setup in advance.Access. The toilets should be easy to get to, preferrably at the opposite end of the room from the stage. There should be access for disable people. The performers should be able to go 'straight to stage'. The bar should be the opposite end from the stage.Sound system. This should be of good quality, it should not produce any feedback under normal circumstances, and it should not hurt peoples ears regardless of how loud it is turned up. It should also be of sufficient power to 'fill the room', with headroom to spare. The bass bins and subs should be located under the stage. The treble speaker should located at either side of the stage, but with adequate room to breathe either side of the venue walls, floor, and ceiling, and be of the same height as the performers.Lights. There should be adequate room on stage for an overhead lighting rig, at an adequate height for the lights to spread out to their optimum.Bar. The should be located at the opposite end of the room from the stage. It should be long enough to serve a lot of people at once and be staffed accordingly. The drinks should taste fresh.Their should be a staffed cloakroom (in case it gets too hot), and a ticket hatch. The entrance doors should be at the opposite end from the stage.Stage montitors. These should be loud enough for the performers and should not feedback.Other facilities. These depend on the size of venue and the sort of bands that play there. Facilities may range from aircon on stage to spare guitar strings.None of the local venues come close to meeting those requirements. If you apply that list to The Moorings, then the only thing right with it is the sound system LMAO... and even that took us a couple of years! The room is too long and narrow, the ceiling isn't high enough, the bar and toilets are in the wrong place, blah blah blah blah blah... IMO The Forum has the best room and layout in terms of proportions, stage, toilets, bar, balcony... if someone installed a decent rig in there, and cleaned out the beer lines between gigs, it would be awesome. But let's assume there were too venues that met all that critera - then how would we choose between them? See this is where things like Belgian beer in poofy glasses, or who has the nicest tiles in their toilets becomes important
Flash@TMB
BTW that was in theory. As we all know it's possible to get 90% of that right and end up with a shit venue, or 90% of it wrong and end up with a great venue. Interesting to compare the ideal with the realities though. And on The Forum... it only has the potential to make a great venue for the sort of acts that can draw 600 people. The Kernel Loaf
The Tunnels. There are many reasons, but the one I should emphasise the most is that they are the only venue in Aberdeen that would tolerate us
Guest MDP
lol, besides the expensive bar prices i cannot really think of annother reason the tunnels isnt fucking great!
Metarie
The Tunnels got my vote, I don't think the bar is that expensive to be honest. Fair enough I fell foul of paying 2.50 for a half of Leffe because of the cute goblet-y thing (which you should be able to take home at that price), but otherwise I don't think it's anymore expensive than most places. The one thing I would say is that whenever I go there for a gig I find it's too loud, the sound techs don't seem to realise that it's a small area, you don't need loud volume to fill the place. And having no mobile reception is a pain *shrugs* that's it really.

The Ghost Of Fudge
... i've now closed the poll. we'll add these votes to the votes polled at fudge gigs from november, and in that manner we'll find a winner... no counting of chickens yet, ok?
