So you want to build a studio?

Recommended Posts

one that uses big slabs of open reel tape. An old Studer or MCI 2-inch 16 track machine and a couple of old Ampex mic preamps. Sympte-synch the ree2reel to a digital recorder. Oh, and a big air-conditioned room and a full-time engineer. It is a fantasy set-up after all.

But, if it had to be practical, it'd be protools.

Keilan's liust is somewhat strange: No DAWs' date=' no modern desks, no drum miics, no building, no designer, no tracking recorder, no piano, no organs, no e-pianos, no modern reverbs, no 5.1 facility and above all, no monitors.[/quote']

But he does say the list is incomplete.

Anyway, it's his fantasy studio and in his fantasy maybe the studio elves design and build it for him.

Its such a pity that its too cold for studio elves this far north...

only question that crossed my mind was why there was Behringer kit in a wish list ????

Haha!!! :D I could almost blag my way out of all the above except the monitors!!! (eg. i can see plenty of drum mics in there ;)) I hate pianos, I'm only interested in stereo music etc. etc.

of course its just a cut and paste of the equipment list at Abbey Road ;)

Besides, i still get by with my fostex X15 from time to time....

Just give me a nice large live room, a well equiped control room based around a large pro tools system and what ever must have gear. I need a large leather couch to sit on and ponder mixes. 3 or 4 of those really expensive chairs to work from/skoot about on <you know the one David Dimbleby sits on in Question Time.> Some large white boards on the wall for writing stuff up. Beech wood furniture all round, it looks so lush.

A well equiped kitchen next door is a must. Smeg Cooker with built in hot plate and fryer. Two Smeg fridge/freezers. Large table that everyone can eat around. A good sound system/TV and some sofas in there as well.

Heres a not-exactly-an-artists impression of my "fantasy" set up. Ok so most of it is behringer, but hey, I'm a realist, its like I don't aspire to own a porsche, I aspire to own an MR2 mkII cos I know one could be had for a grand on ebay. This is still a pricey set up though...

...if anyones particularly interested I will type up the specs.
