  1. Coda (Home Page - Coda Music) are currently offering a Taylor 210 for just 399, which represents great value for money IMO. I'd certainly recommend trying a few out before making any sort of decision- the 210 lacks electronics so it depends if amplification is of a high priority. I ended up choosing a Garrison when I was in your situation this time last year- all solid woods, Canadian made, Buzz Feiten tuning system and a great finish (not overly glossy, although that comes down to personal preference). I've certainly been very happy with my purchase, but I was equally impressed with the Taylor models I tried. I noticed Peter Cooks (Peter Cook's Guitar World) have been trying to get rid of one of the similarly high-quality models for just 299 which is a steal really.
  2. If so it's not a half bad idea.
  3. I'm shocked there's no students or cheapskates fighting to get this. A free TV! I'd take it if I didn't already have a nice shiny HD telly in my room
  4. 5 is a fucking bargain no matter what you think of them nowadays. If accomodation and travel were reasonable (i.e. no more than 45 which is very unlikely) I reckon I'd go.
  5. I quite like this (I never thought I'd type that into this thread!). Solid tune- classic Metallica. Maybe the album will be *whispers* good...
  6. I find myself losing picks constantly (I think a fair few live in the hoover) so I bought a couple bags off eBay for less than a tenner. They all have a "Rock Skool" logo on them which seems to rub off after a few hours playing so good deal all-round.
  7. You're a moron, and I don't even feel I'm being out of order saying it. Stop acting all high and mighty and putting other posters down for not having as much experience/students/skill as you when you evidently don't know who they are or what they may or may not have achieved. Regarding the metronome point, I feel that a strong grasp of timekeeping certainly doesn't detract from "feel"- if playing in a band situation with other musicians timekeeping is integral. I'd certainly recommend practising with one, especially if just starting out. I'll catch you crazy cats on the flipside...lol??????????????????????
  8. 1 from Zavvi by any chance? Another buy I couldn't resist.
  9. Over the last couple weeks or so I've bought a Powerball, about 30 of books I'll probably never read (including the new Danny Wallace book- it was 1 extra for a signed copy off play.com, but you only live once...), 5 guitar wall hangers, a Whitesnake t-shirt and nearly 100 plectrums. Add this to a ridiculous amount of clothes, a new laptop, camera, gig tickets, DVDs and other such delights- now to deal with being poor...
  10. It's nearly exactly the same- every time I hear that song I just want it to go to a verse of "1 banana 2 banana 3 banana 4..."
  11. I actually quite like this tune- heard it a few times now and agree that it definitely has Sikth-esque elements (1.35-1.45 sounds exactly like something off Death of a Dead Day). The video however is another story...
  12. [Talking about an eleven year old girl who was raped and then buried alive] god was sacrificing this child as a way to show others the light. much as he did his own child. what a beautiful gift he has given us. WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK?
  13. What is it about the uni gym that you didn't like? I'm yet to visit so I don't really know what to expect in terms of facilities etc.
  14. How much for the noise gate?
  15. I felt the exact same way, until I realised that the copious amounts of pizza, cake, cider and cheese that I consume were chunking me up. A gym membership says to me "another slice of pizza is alright- I'm a gym member..." The only thing that seemed to get me out of bed early and exercising was the fact that money was coming out of my bank account every month for the privelege.
  16. I'm in the same boat- been going to One Sports in Bridge of Don for the past few months, but they've ceased trading. It was 19 a month off peak, 2 mins from my house and nearly always empty (hence why they've gone and bloody closed). Had everything you needed though and was great for the price. Any thoughts on the Aberdeen Uni gym? Seems the next logical option for myself, but I've yet to investigate.
  17. I wonder if this means Wispa Golds (which were a personal childhood favourite) will be making a comeback...
  18. Aye, a Studio 15 was going to be my recommendation. This seems a pretty good deal for what you're after: The Dell Online Store: Build Your System
  19. Working, drinking, sleeping. I too am deliberating whether to actually work this week. I'm sure there's overtime available, but waking up at 12 and sitting around writing music whilst eating pancakes for another week surely won't do me any harm...
  20. A Core 2 duo processor and 2gb+ of RAM would be what I'd be looking out for if I were you (and perfectly manageable on your budget). If you don't know much about what you're buying avoid PC World like the plague. I bought a laptop from there last week because I knew I was getting a good deal, but watched as some poor soul asked for assistance then ended up purchasing a horrificaly overpriced system.
