  1. I live in Aberdeen. And I actually don't mind it. Like I initially said - it's safe. I like the Uni, I've made great friends here etc. But I saw a thread saying "thoughts on Aberdeen" and posted a good and a bad thing about the city only to find people half-reading my posts and calling me a cunt. As for your last line - are you being smart or sincere? I don't get it.
  2. ? First of all - Toy are a shitty little Aberdeen band that I'm in, I am a person, not a representative of Toy. And what fear/abuse are you talking about? Read my last post - it's pretty calm and friendly! You go to gigs for music, which is what we play. I fully reserve the right to be a total wanker, but in this instance I think I've been pretty kosher. Which ones in particular? The ones about not judging people on their accents? You shouldn't be ashamed and it's good to be proud. I just happen to find it annoying. A lot of people hate lots of different accents. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that in any way that I can possibly fathom. Don't get so damn offended that I think your accent is less than amazing.
  3. I'm sure you and most of the people on this forum (I'm being charitable) are not the types I'm talking about. Also - I didn't say anywhere that doric speakers are in any way stupid people, just that snobs of both varieties were. I simply find the accent unpleasant. Or vulgar. In much the same way that some people have a problem with the word "cunt" being casually uttered. In no way am I being snobbish towards doric speakers, as like I stated, I don't judge people according to their dialect. I just happen to hate the dialect, NOT THE PERSON. Agreed on Liverpool.
  4. ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
  5. Ok, but apart from your job; what have the Romans ever done for us?
  6. Who's mistaking it? I find Doric disgustingly vulgar to read or listen to. I would certainly argue that inverse snobbery is a sign of low intelligence, understanding and tolerance. I would put forth the same arguement in the case of "regular" snobs also. Yes, there are clever people with accents (sigh...), but I dislike the general despise people recieve for knowing how to articulate themselves properly. I find both the Doric language and the Aberdonian accent revolting, but would not judge people according to this dislike.
  7. All of those things ARE true. Was that your point?
  8. I have a fairly weak accent. Edinburgh/Fife, but quite diluted.
  9. Not even an exaggeration. The hooligans masquerading as managers at my old job were pretty much the archetypal blueprint for all Aberdeen based football thugs.
  10. I quite obviously said that other Scottish cities are prone to inverse snobbery, not Doric. Of course, I don't care to stop people speaking with their natural accents (even though I happen to find the local Aberdeen Doric inflection hideous), but rather I would prefer not to be looked at funny for pronouncing a word correctly.
  11. I find it to be a safe city for the most part and I heartily enjoy not getting chibbed on Friday nights, but I hate the inverse snobbery of Aberdeen folk, for whom it is a crime to articulate your conversation in any manner other than broad, ugly doric, although a lot of Scottish cities are prone to that.
  12. Thursday the 10th of July at Snafu. 9pm. 3-4. Friday the 8th of August at The lemon Tree. 9pm. 5. Saturday the 23rd of August at the Wizard Festival. 1pm. 45 for one day/65 for full festival + camping. And the great news is - we haven't practiced in months!
  13. How many members have to live in Aberdeen to pass the mark?
  14. I had a great night in Glasgow, really enjoyed the set, laughed my ass off after the gig and the whole outing was a welcome break from sitting on the internet in the flat. I couldn't stop laughing at those guys selling ponchos. "THREE POUND a ponch... THHHHHHHHHHHREEEEEEE POUUUUUUUUUUUUNDAH poncho..."
  15. Paranoid Android went all inverted and neon.
  16. ? Are you talking about the "pay whatever you want" download? YOU GOT RIPPED!
  17. Yeah - I remember telling my girlfriend how great I was at making "proper" coffee (I used to work in a gourmet coffee house in Oz) and was duly invited to make a coffee on her Dads rather expensive home coffee machine. Upon making an absolute tits of it; I utilized the good old : "Oh its because the er...coffee ...wasn't ground up enough..." I'm secretly adamant that it was the silly bloody machine though - it took ages to warm up and didn't really heat the milk as well as it should do. ...
