    Top Tens

Can somebody write something below me so that when I log in tonight and click "what's new?" this thread will appear and I can have a listen.
  3. Fernando Pasquinelli got 10/10 for a performance against Kilmarnock in 2004, and rightly so, but it is uncommon. I worked at Pittodrie in the Bisconti days. His wife was always raging that he would have to stay behind after every home game to pick up the man of the match champagne and pose for photos. She seemed like a bit of a cow so maybe that's why he defrauded her.
  4. I've been a very good boy this year...
  5. I knew there would be intricacies but didn't appreciate the extent. Speaker cable?! Thanks a lot for your advice, I'll get some proper equipment. Might need to involve Santa.
  6. That's second on my list at the moment.
  7. I was out at my old man's recently and he was very excited about showing me his new record player. He stuck on a Led Zeppelin record and I was pretty much in awe of the difference in sound quality to what I have been used to with CDs and iPods. I'd always heard that vinyl was far superior but put that advice mostly down to muso eccentricity. Now the case is clear in my ears. I am therefore going to jump on the bandwagon and purchase myself a record player. I don't have a clue about this really so was looking for some advice. The room where I'll be having it isn't huge so I don't need massive volume and would prefer not that much space taken up. I'd rather not spend that much but if I have to in order to make a difference then I will. I've been looking at the cheaper end first and stuff like this seems to get decent reviews: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wooden-Retro-Turntable-Cassette-Player/dp/B001EZPI02/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1350397633&sr=8-4 However, I don't know if this would give me that difference in sound that I am looking for just by virtue of it playing records. Are the speakers really important to the overall vinyl enjoyment? I know the old boy splashed out a fair bit. Pardon my ignorance. Hope you can help.
  8. You're assuming cars will always have CD players! There was a piece about 1-up on STV http://player.stv.tv/programmes/news-at-six-aberdeen-north-full/2012-10-15-1800/ (see around 17 mins). Captain Tom is on there too.
  9. That's because he's made of granite. Everyone seems to be so impressed that he just gets up and gets on with it and rightly so in this day and age of the aforementioned playacting fuds. However, I can see a really bad injury on the horizon if defenders continue to scythe him down. He does draw fouls I suppose by seemingly showing too much of the ball to the defender and then nicking it away at the final second.
  10. Ryan Jack is out for 3 months after fracturing a bone in his foot on U21 duty. There's some club news for you.
  11. I hate this idea modern football people have that it's different to dive without being touched than it is to feel a touch and go down. Simulation is simulation. I go on about this all the time so sorry if I'm repeating myself.
  12. An acquaintance of mine works as a music teacher at a secondary school. He recently asked a class of 13/14 year olds if anyone had ever bought a CD. No hands went up.
  13. RBS once sent me an annual report which had a table showing the where I spent the most money with my debit card - unsurprisingly 1-Up, Oddbins and Aberdeen Football Club were top of the pile. Other than bookshops 1-Up is the only shop I enjoy visiting. Even if I have to go in to town to buy something boring like clothes or Xmas shopping I will treat myself to a visit and come home chuffed. I guess bookshops will eventually be a thing of the past with all your kindles and what not and I'll have no desire ever to go into town and will just become some sort of smelly hermit who hoards CDs and books and hates young people.

    Lames to Fame

Used to go out with Kate Moss' husband's ex-girlfriend. River City's Roisin will be bridesmaid at my wedding. Some decent ones from my time working at AFC: Watched 9/11 happen with Ben Thornley. Had a kebab with Rachid Belabed. Had a Christmas Dinner next to Jamie McAllister. Was Angus the Bull on 3 matchdays. Went to the children's hospital (dressed as Angus) with Peter Kjaer. Sorted out Roberto Bisconti's car insurance. Gave Ryan Esson directions to Rotherham. Taught Derek Whyte how to send a fax. Had a finger clicking handshake anytime I encountered Eugene Dadi. Tore my knee ligaments in a charity game whilst playing in a midfield 3 of me, Neil Simpson and Dougie Bell. Got words of wisdom from Ebbe Skovdahl ("it doesn't matter what you wear, it's what's in here (points to head) and in here (points to heart) that counts")

Whilst working at the Banchory Golf Club I Served Billy Dodds a Sweetheart Stout Shandy - he called me 'big man' - and gave Scott Booth 2 cigarettes.
  16. Try calling me dude and see what happens man. Just sayin'
  17. I have to be honest, I can't get past any of this from an Aberdonian: Fair play on the quality of the music and the talent though, I ain't dissing the homie.
  18. Great stuff Jan and friends. 90s revivalist Aberdeen gig should happen in the new year ;-) I explicity sent my girlfriend to 1-UP on Sunday to pick up the new Band of Horses album and a copy of Das McManus. She was denied due to lack of stock. Shame, because this is better than the new BoH!
  19. Thanks fellas. It's probably the sound of Dave's haircut which has been the same since around '94. I think we're going for Teenage Fanclub, Posies, Lemonheads, Nirvana (whilst of course maintaining our 'own unique sound'). I guess the 90s were our era. At least checked shirts are back in. The recording was a bit of a rushed job just to get some tracks down before our bassist moved away.
  20. The Peepers recorded 3 tracks at Captain Tom's recently which we've uploaded below for your listening (dis/)pleasure: http://thepeepers.bandcamp.com/ We'll be looking for a bass player who can also sing the harmonies in the new year. I'll put an ad up later in the appropriate forum but if anyone is interested then feel free to get in touch with me on here.

    Pet Hates!

I saw this film recently and thought of this thread. It may be healthy for you to watch it. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1912398/ (God Bless America)
  22. It's a sad state of affairs that he is the level that Scotland can afford. Being the international manager of Scotland is less lucrative financially and career-wise than managing a yo-yo club between the Premiership and the Championship, as proved by McLeish's departure when things were looking up. It's no longer the case that managing or playing for your country is the pinnacle of your career which is a real shame. In his defence he really doesn't have the players to choose from. It's hard to argue with his back 4 being the best available to him - 2 championship, 1 SPL and 1 'frozen out' Premiership player. Having said all that you have to work with what you've got available and I think he's been found out as tactically naive. My girlfriend who isn't really interested in football watched the game with me last night and her observation was - what are they even trying to do? It just looks like a mess! Hard to argue with that really. If we'd been unlucky in the games I'd agree that we're not out of it yet but while I think we deserved a point on Saturday I think we were lucky to get one last night. Macedonia were surprisingly good mind you. I think they'll take points off teams (most likely 3 from us when we travel there). A Darren Fletcher recovery would give me a small bit of optimism but really we're doooooomed. Again. Wish I could get into that tennis lark.
