  1. More or less this - Some festivals will still do well, particularly for families because they offer good value & a range of stuff that makes the ticket price worthwile, whilst others with a less attractive line-up/ethos will undoubtedly be struggling. Which may be a good thing in the long run? Don't know where I'd place Connect in the scheme of things though but it has never appealed to me.
  2. And they are getting all pissy & defensive about it in other places. However, what makes it even more incredible is that it now appears Westminster Council alone gets considerably more money to spend on snow clearing than North Yorkshire. A place hardly unused to snow.
  3. Same here - Even when working in schools. Must say I was having a good laugh at the "blizzard" conditions on the news. I think I would be labeled a complete & utter skiver if I failed to turn-up for work cos of that. I've ridden the bike through worse, often! As for the buses, have they noticed that we have a few ex-TFL vehicles running here that seem to cope fine & one of my colleagues commented that old Routemasters were snapped-up by alpine resorts as cheap & reliable transport to the slopes. We were assured that the replacements were more capable in every way. Anyway. Someone has been having fun in Nottingham:
  4. Or another one involving one of the little darlings I used to work with. He had just held-up a shop & was making an escape with his ill gotten gains. Running round the corner, he ran slap bang into one of my colleagues who was based in the area who promptly said something along the lines of "Bloody hell ***** what are you in such a hurry for. Oh & why have you got that stocking over your head." Yup, he had chosen a stocking so sheer, it did very little to disguise his identity! Without stopping to chat, he took-off in the opposite direction & ran down a street & through some bushes. Where he threw his weapon away, ripped the stocking off his head & tried to stuff the cash that was now spilling out all over the place, back into his jacket. Then he turned round, to find an entire long bus queue watching him with great interest! 7 years!
  5. You mean like the time I was asked to "help" one well-known local musician retrieve some items from a disused building & when I turned-up, he was dressed in the full kit - Black from head to toe, black balaclava & face mask. o_O And yes, we were manhandling an item of some value out of a window when the police drew-up & asked what we were up to. Thankfully he was blessed with a silver tounge & the officers left us to it!
  6. I have no idea. Kind of hope not - You could be scarred for life by getting one of those in the wrong circumstances!
  7. Chicken breast, wrapped round a mealie pudding, then the whole lot wrapped in bacon, battered & fried. It may well look disguisting but it was absolutely delicious! They do versions with black or haggis puddings at the core. Not much can go wrong with leek & tattie soup IME.
  8. Had visitor last night, so we went to Hass's chipper: Must go to the gym now!
  9. Here you go: I've gone into hairdressers here, looked at the prices & thought "I just don't have enough hair to justify this" Final straw was when the one I was using started giving me half price automatically.
  10. I've just had a Thain's pie & some leftover pasta tossed in olive oil & ketchup. Munchieflaimingtastic!
  11. Saw last night that Enigma has a sign saying that they cannot accept card payments any more - "for the forseeable future," so that sounds more than a maintenance/fault issue. Withdrawl of merchant services perhaps?
  12. Yup - 60. Lost his legs to it in recent years. Sobering thought BBC carrying the story now: BBC NEWS | Scotland | Glasgow, Lanarkshire and West | Songwriter Martyn dies, aged 60
  13. Its official now: John Martyn - Home
  14. Just heard this on the radio.
  15. Yup, if you pack them firmly & treat them gently when cooking, you probably won't even need the egg/oil as a binder. It may sound gross but the results are well worth it!
  16. I must admit that my first thought on seeing that was - "Yeast Infection?" o_O Dead easy to make your own good burgers - See Chris's recipe. One thing, go to a good butcher & ask for lean steak mince - Less fatty & a better texture. You can also use egg as a binder instead of olive oil.
  17. Just to balance things-up. This is not just a Wendy's burger. This is a Wendy's Triple Double Challenge Burger. It has six, quarter pound ground beef patties. That's 1.5 pounds of greasy fast food meat and at 2000 calories, contains the entire recommended daily calorie intake- in one burger. mmmmmmmmmmm
  18. This is the problem - The Terrorism act is so drawn so broadly that almost anything can be argued as an interpretation. There's no requirement for proof of intent, merely that the gathering or publication of information "which is of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism" The only defence of a 'reasonable excuse' puts the onus on the defence to prove that they were not committing a crime, rather than on the prosecution to prove that a crime was committed. In practical terms, you have to prove your innocence. Although my bet would be that the image/footage would somehow be lost/deleted & you would be sent on your way with a flea in your ear. I'm aware of another incident where a person filming an officer stomping someone resulted in his phone being confiscated. It was several months before its return & when returned, along with an upheld complaint that resulted in a wrist slap for the officer, it was minus two videos - Guess which! We have an example of where this can lead with last year's case of a Nottingham University student, who was arrested for possession of dodgy material (relevant to his Thesis) and released after nearly a week. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/08...tt_uni_update/
  19. Another date added: Mott the Hoople tickets HMV Hammersmith Apollo London, , Directions, seating chart. Official Ticketmaster site.
  20. British Journal of Photography - Taking photos of police officers could be considered a crime Mental. The act is here: Counter-Terrorism Act 2008 (c. 28) and the text is: So it looks like we finally have secret police now. Just like a proper totalitarian regime ...
  21. And me, on the way for some baccy So no change there then.
  22. I have a tale about meeting Blue. A colleague (now deceased) also had a tale about sharing a first class lounge in Manchester airport with several somewhat scared & bewildered young guys, whilst a large crowd of lassies were outside chanting for them. It was Take That, on the first weekend they broke through. Apparently they were quite charming & her daughters were most jealous. Aww!
