  1. Yup - a useful additional tool but not a replacement for other forms of regular excercise IMO.
  2. I was being told to get used to being a cripple back in 97 at the end of a prolonged period of surgical trauma. Couldn't climb two flights of stairs without a pause. I joined a gym instead & got a lot of qualified advice on how to go forward. For the most part of the time since, I have presented no symptoms of nor even any form of detectable signs of the chronic illness I was diagnosed with. The only time things began to be detected again was when I had to stop using the gym regularly. Since returning, my metabolism seems to be pretty-much resolutely normal. Even with the long term risks of injury from overdoing it, going to the gym is far better than the near certainty of serious complications from my condition - Delaying that as long as possible is of some importance!
  3. Nothing - I did all this for a good couple of years when I had financial issues to sort after my break-up & by the end of that period, I had increased my intake of certain medication & was plagued by more frequent, nagging minor injuries that were easily attributable to over repitition of certain activities. Tended to cycle rather than run though, old motorbike injury makes running, esp on hard surfaces inadvisable. Even in the gym, I use cross trainers, not treadmills. When I got things sorted two years back, the first & only treat to myself (not quite out of the woods yet) was to renew a gym membership. Since then, things have improved greatly healthwise & although I do occasionally strain things a little, the sheer variety of activity there means I have yet to suffer any of the same injuries again. Then there is the little matter of motivation - Gyms do help that IMO.
  4. I'm there - They are dearer than other gyms but I find it worthwile. Partly because the place is very convenient for my daily round & I have a medical condition that is greatly helped by very regular excercise. Used to use the Beach gym near my work but after having to lay-up for a couple of years whilst I got my finances back under control after a break-up (cycled instead), I found that gym had gone up in price greatly but the rise was not reflected in any investment & I reckoned that my one real personal luxury was worth paying a bit extra for. Anyway, it has: Excellent free weight section. Good range of weights machines spread across three areas of different types Good variety of CV stuff - excercise bikes, recliners, cross trainers, rowing & running machines. Not many steppers (& I'm not fond of half of them anyway) & one or two oddments like the windlass machines. You can always find something, even when the place is mobbed. Big spinning section, with regular classes/instructor-led sessions. Similarly a heap of those Powerplate things. Which seem popular enough. Plenty instructors for classes & individual - Standard seems good & a pleasant bunch. Huge board listing all the different classes & two good areas off the main gym. Nice pool & spa area plus the changing rooms/showers are good. They take their maintenance pretty seriously & you seldom see anything out of action for very long. I'm paying 64 a month for the full/peak time gym membership, which is full-whack. Off-peak membership was quite a bit cheaper if your routine allows & there were various discounts through employers/banks & the like - Ask, they have a list I Don't do the raquets thing, which about doubled everything.
  5. I usually get given a leg of lamb whenever one or other of my relations from the Western Isles comes to visit - Fresh off the croft, totally natural Machair & seashore-fed. Utterly splendid meat!
  6. That looks absolutely delicious - Not had lamb for ages!
  7. Remember that a year or two back, he was so drunk & agressive abord his private plane that the crew had to divert to Inverness & land. Where he was arrested & later fined for it. Hopefully he is getting on top of his problems?
  8. She has a whole range of finely tuned disturbing skills TBH!
  9. This person was not particularly happy with her recent cut at Toni & Guy: o_O
  10. Striped t-shirt? Hmmm - a likely story. o_O Its "Mr Hands" all over again!
  11. Get them to put this on the list of ingredients: J & D's - Everything Should Taste Like Bacon: Products
  12. Fuck, a pal's husband went from the mill at Tillydrone to there when it closed.
  13. Ahh, good. Its a while since I was last in. Hope the others get sorted soon.
  14. How moch of this ridicule is to do with the tabloids involved jumping on their various "moral outrage" bandwagons &/or trying to cover their tracks for failing to do some basic research?
  15. Yes - I heard something of this a week or so ago. Not unexpected TBH. Good luck to Daveofficer & any other of their employees who might be on here.
  16. My gran was not a lot older than that girl when she was starting her family - Which was something quite normal for most ordinary young women back then. The luxury of this idea of a period of "youth" had still to come along for all but the most privileged.
  17. I know, but they hit the spot! My gran's old stovies recipe is much nicer but it was a bit much work for all of a sudden - I should have planned earlier!
  18. Or maybe a blatent example of what happens when journalists don't do basic research & try avoid facing-up to the fact?
  19. Yup - Fucking wonderful parenting.... on all sides.
  20. Now this: Father of boy dad cashes in | Herald Sun
  21. Yup - Here is a link to the NOTW article: Richard Goodsell: I'm the real daddy, Alfie and I want a DNA test to prove it | News | News Of The World It makes grim reading - it's claimed the girl was more or less the town bike & had a string of boys staying over and sleeping in her bed & it appears one of the teenagers involved mother has been on Trisha twice before. Fuck, It's like a CBeebies version of Jeremy Kyle & I bet the Sun & NOTW are working a tag team on this. What next - Phone-in for DNA test results?
