  1. Following the success of the launch party with turntable legend, DJ Q-Bert, Wax gets officially underway on Friday 20th May, with chief resident Dee J A La Fu (Big Dada Recordings). Dee J A La Fu: Has toured with the likes of Gil Scott Heron, De La Soul, Blackalicious, Roots Manuva, the Scratch Perverts and Afrika Bambatta, recorded and remixed on labels Ninja Tune and Big Dada and appeared on television alongside Kool Herc, Gza and Roots Manuva. Released the series Radio Skool (featuring Maseo, Mike Ladd, Juice Aleem & Infinite Livez) to worldwide critical acclaim, ending up on NYCs Turntable Lab top 5. Impecable scratching and mixing, AND he's from Aberdeen! Support from Giles Walker, Kid Bell and DJ Gomes. Hosted by Mayhem. Doors open 11pm, curfew 3am. 3 (before 12/NUS), 4 (after 12). Wax - "The Residential Suite" @ Kef, Belmont Street, Aberdeen.
  2. I'm organising a guide on local clubs, promoters and alternative/specialist retail outlets to be ready in time for Freshers Week. I assume that Liquid intends to "purchase" this years intake of freshers again, so this guide aims to showcase the likes of Kef, Snafu, Tunnels, my own WAX night, Elementz, etc. (of course these names are just examples, everyone has to put forward their share of costs before they get in the guide). The magazine will be free and will be along the lines of Element Magazine and, if anyone remembers, The Guide from a few years ago. It will be unbiased and any one club will not be able to purchase more than a double/quadruple page spread (depending on interest and size of guide). Though of course, Liquid aren't invited! So promoters and clubs, this is a good chance to hijack the (probably already purchased) Freshers marketing campaign. Send serious notes of interest to waxhiphop@gmail.com or PM me.
  3. Wax hosts special guest... PRIME CUTS (SCRATCH PERVERTS) ITF World Scratch Champion twice in succession (1999/2000), DMC Team World Champion (Scratch Perverts) in 1999 and UK DMC Champion 1998 (cheated of victory in 1996!). As an integral member of the UKs premier DJ collective, Prime Cuts and the Scratch Perverts have diversified from club/battle DJing to recording artists in their own right. Remixes for names like De La Soul, Ian Brown and Howie B, last years 12-inch Come Get It (feat. MC Dynamite), whilst in the near future, a (long-awaited) debut album and a forthcoming fabric mix cd (Fabriclive.22). Notorious for party-rocking sets, check out Prime Cuts on the mix compilation, Hip-Hop Dont Stop The Greatest. HOSTED BY MAYHEM, + Residents: Dee J A LA FU, GILES WALKER, KID BELL AND DJ GOMES. Friday 17th June KEF : BELMONT STREET : ABERDEEN DOORS OPEN 11PM, 3AM CURFEW. ARRIVE EARLY. Tax: 7
  4. Wax hosts special guest, PRIME CUTS (SCRATCH PERVERTS). Not sure if DJ's are included in the Fly, but here's the info: ITF World Scratch Champion twice in succession (1999/2000), DMC Team World Champion (Scratch Perverts) in 1999 and UK DMC Champion 1998 (cheated of victory in 1996!). 6. Our host for the evening, Mayhem did perform a couple of his own songs, and as for collaborating with Q-Bert...how many MC's in the UK can say they had Q-Bert as their backing DJ! Q heard Mayhem rapping at the soundcheck and asked if he'd like to do something before the end of the night...Mayhem said he'd have to think about it. Good to hear everyone had a good night, nights like these (i.e. Public Enemy, DJ Q-Bert, etc.) don't come to Aberdeen enough. I'm sorry to say we lost out on KRS-One this year too...too much money and a HUGE entourage! Anyway, roll on the 20th...

  8. For info, see original post. Roots Manuva ticket holders will be entitled to gain entry to Kef for a reduced rate of 4. Ticket stubs will be required as proof, and will also be retained at the door.
  9. You should, Q-Bert has never come North of Edinburgh before. T'will be a very good night. Kurt Masta Kurt is not appearing, although we have a very able support line-up.
  10. Apologies, this is a blatant attempt to get my thread back on the main page!
  11. When PIVO had DJ Format to mark the end of Freshers Week last year, we had to close the doors early. Should be another sell-out, not to mention a fucking great night.
  12. Great for finding out about even the most poorly-promoted gigs. From a club promoter's point of view, opens up venues like Kef and Snafu to a varied audience. I think the vast majority who use the forum realise that individual opinions are just that, and do not reflect the opinion of the admin. SEE YOU AT Q-BERT!!! Gomes
  13. Prime Cuts of the mighty Scratch Perverts confirmed for June.
