  1. Wax presents... FINGATHING Time Capsule Tour Originally members of Rae & Christians live crew, DJ Peter Parker and double-bassist Sneakys almost telepathic free-styling led to the creation of Fingathing. This duos incredible live shows consisting of live double-bass and scratched, cut-up beats with added visuals have been further supported by three full-length studio albums, including last years And The Big Red Nebula Band. This time round, the guys are promoting their new compilation album, Time Capsule. Peter Parker was signed up to Grand Central Records after competing in a UK DMC Final, judged by head honcho, Mark Rae. As those who have witnessed him will bear testament, his live shows are both awesome and awe-inspiring. His pure technical displays using classic 70s break beats and underground hip-hop have hypnotised many crowds and gained him many fans. Parker is also a member of the Cutting Crew turntablist collective, alongside Statik and ex-DMC World Champion, DJ Noize. Sneaky is a classically-trained double bassist, having achieved Grade 8 with distinction. Resident at Manchesters seminal hip-hop night, Eardrum, led to a gig in Malaysia which led to guest and session work for the likes of Dillinga, Lemon D (Metalheadz) and Mr Scruff (Sneaky worked on Scruff releases, Keep It Unreal and Trouser Jazz). When not in his hip-hop guise, Sneaky can occasionally be spotted in the line-up at midweek jazz sessions in Manchester or Liverpool alongside members of Aim and Cinematic Orchestra. Support from Kid Bell & Giles Walker Hosted by Mayhem Advance tickets priced 8 available from www.seetickets.com Doors open 11pm FRIDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER KEF :: BELMONT STREET :: ABERDEEN www.fingathing.com

  6. Here are some statistics and facts: Overall, 151,000 more people migrated to the United Kingdom than left in 2003, according to new international migration estimates published today by the Office for National Statistics. This was slightly lower than the estimate of 153,000 in 2002 and estimates of between 162,000 and 172,000 per year in the preceding three years. In 2003, the estimated number of people arriving to live in the UK for at least a year was 513,000, the same as in 2002. The number of people leaving the UK to live elsewhere increased slightly from 359,000 in 2002 to a record 362,000 in 2003. IMO: Add in to the equation falling birthrates amongst British citizens (mostly white might I add) and deaths, 151,000 people hardly make a dent. My parents are moving to Canada soon (to work). Should they be allowed to, but not have international immigrants take their place? My dad's an immigrant but has paid more tax and been more of an asset than millions of traditional British (smackheads, willing jobless, criminals, etc.). Maybe there are other groups that should be blamed for this country's ills first? The BNP and National Front can kiss my brown ass!
  7. Better late than... Just come across this. Over 18's, since the night is held at Kef nightclub. Is there a large demand for over 14's too? We possibly have some big names coming up over the next 8/9 months. Usually we prefer to do over 18 shows only, but what are peoples thoughts on sharing a venue with 14 - 17 year olds or vice versa. Would this piss off those in the 18 - 30 bracket? We're negotiating with DJ Babu (Dialated Peoples/Beat Junkies) at the moment, and might consider experimenting with an over 14 show. Good or bad idea?
  8. A potential for WAX, but I know Rob Swift must also appeal to Moshulu/Moorings/Exodus regulars. Looking at a date in early December. Would anyone go?

    Support DJ Anyone?

Yeah, I think it was about 3 years ago, maybe even 4 years. The one year Mr Doherty made it off his tour bus...although they did spend the entire night in pursuit of speed. Anyone remember Brian asking the audience for some?
  15. Taking the summer off my day job, so I'm looking for as much DJing gigs as possible. Resident/founder of WAX @ Kef, cover many styles of hip hop from old classics to newer groups like Roots, J5, etc. Can provide a chilled warm-up set or a funky set to get people dancing at the end of the night. CV is as follows (short version): Estaminet, Pivo, Kef, Lemon Tree as well as other venus I'm too ashamed to mention! More recently, Chris Curtis (Snafu/Metropolis) and I were DJing a mix of electro/disco/techno/house in Ellon(!), so I'm very eclectic. Usually support Girl Said No when they play the Lemon Tree, but have also supported the Libertines and Aerogramme when they played Fudge (how's that for varied?). PM me or send an email to waxhiphop@gmail.com. Gomes
  16. As the title says. Had a new speaker cone put in a couple of years ago...bear in mind I haven't played bass for about 3 years now, but the fucker I leant it to once blew the cone. Looking for around 60. It's a bargain folks...unless someone finds a cheaper one somewhere else, and then I might have do a John Lewis (never knowingly undersold). PM me.
  17. I recommend Unity Recording Studio out near Forres. The studio is purpose-built, has an enclosed vocal booth, a baby grand piano, and the guy really knows what he's doing. Ask Simon Gall of, funnily enough, the Simon Gall Band. We recorded up there a couple of years ago. Costs around 25 an hour, but in the recording world you really do get what you pay for.
  18. Haven't seen the advert, so I'm guessing, but Michael Buble done a cover too. It's on i-tunes.

    Wax Info

Wax has launched a new mailing list. This will include guestlist offers, discounted tickets and exclusive info about future events. Previous guests have included DJ Q-Bert and Prime Cuts of the Scratch Perverts (previous as in playing tomorrow nite!). After the summer, names such as Peter Parker (Fingathing), Jeru Tha Damaja and DJ Babu (Dialated Peoples) are pencilled in. We are also permanently on the case of the Holy Grail (MixMaster Mike). Those on the mailing list will receive discounts and first choice of tickets for these events. To join up, send a blank email, with "Mailing List" as subject, to waxhiphop@gmail.com.
  20. I stopped by to see Mu on Saturday night (crazy woman!), ordered a Corona and Malibu with fresh OJ. I think it cost about 4.60ish. I can understand that 2.70 is on the high side for a pint, but the Tunnels is a late nite venue, and these prices seem very reasonable to me. To put another way, if you pay 2.70 to drink in a new venue like the Tunnels and 2.40ish to drink in one of the other live music venues in Aberdeen with ripped seats, outdated PA systems, etc., does that extra 30p really make a difference?

Released the series Radio Skool (featuring Maseo, Mike Ladd, Juice Aleem & Infinite Livez) to worldwide critical acclaim, ending up on NYCs Turntable Lab top 5. Impecable scratching and mixing, AND he's from Aberdeen! Support from Giles Walker, Kid Bell and DJ Gomes. Hosted by Mayhem. Doors open 11pm, curfew 3am. 3 (before 12/NUS), 4 (after 12).
