  3. Tickets: The early-bird tickets (priced 6) have now sold-out. The next batch have been released, priced 9. Again, these are very limited and once these go the price will increase for the next bundle. Going by amazing pre-sales, this gig will be a sell-out. Only a few will be kept for first-come, first-served on the night so I would advise that those wishing to buy tickets purchase them as soon as possible. Tickets available from www.seetickets.com Venue: The venue has now been moved to SNAFU, 1 Union Street. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. Travel From AECC: There will be busses running from the AECC direct to Snafu. Passes will be available from One-Up shortly (places limited). Keep an eye out!
  4. Wasn't calling you a liar. Keep me updated on the situation.
  5. As of last Wednesday, I am no longer the General Manager of Lo Down. Having worked with the security staff, I'm in disbelief that this could have happened. I would advise you to speak to Glen and see if he can speak to the doorman in question. Hope you get it sorted out.
  6. My last couple were: Giant Panda - "Fly School Reunion" DJ Language - "Real Music For Real People" Since I never use these Smiley things, I think now would be appropriate to drop one in:
  7. Just wondering if anyone went to Skinnyman on Monday and if it was a good night.

  14. Not sure how relevent this is, but a few weeks ago I got an invitation to join a group from some random. Now, I never use myspace, I think I've posted events on it a few times but that's about it. Checked out the link anyway and this guy was strange. He had an eccentric collection of pictures with a few of them close up shots of corpses. Thought it was beyond bizarre and so deleted the email from my Outlook. Just went into my Gmail account after reading this to see if I could find the email again. I did and the link now comes up as "Invalid Group ID". Puzzled and also slightly spooked! Anyone else get this?
  15. Looking for art students for a few ideas I've got for Lo Down. Non-students are welcome also, but the budget isn't unlimited so costs will have to be realistic. There's lots of space on the walls for showcasing/selling work plus I need someone who's competent at stencilling. PM if interested.
  16. As well as softening the venue, the curtains are there to close off the stage arch when not in use. I'd rather have a good atmosphere with 200 in one room , than everyone spread out over the whole venue. Plus the way the stage arch is set-up is perfect for big gigs or events like fashion shows etc. but not really for your average Friday night. The atmosphere we had on Thursday for the opening night was electric. Hopefully most people have had good impressions of the place, and as for the doorstaff, these guys may look like man-mountains but their attitude and courtesy is first-class so I wouldn't think too much of it.
  17. Tried it, Isho. You can be my witness to that! I don't think I have seen a bad performance for anyone we've brought up for Wax, but it's a shame that the likes of Rob Swift of the X-Ecutioners and Rodney P don't appeal to the Aberdeen public. We were hoping when we started Wax that it would be a quality stamp on anyone we brought up, but clearly hasn't worked out that way. Here's the odd thing: Back in April, when DJ Q-Bert and Roots Manuva were in Aberdeen on a WEDNESDAY night, over 850 people were at these gigs. Never seen them since! Pretty soon we'll have to resort to doing what almost every other club promoter in Aberdeen is doing, and that's having 4 or 5 acts on rotation. Here's the future line-up of WAX: February: DJ Q-BERT March: FINGATHING April: ROOTS MANUVA May: DJ Q-BERT September: FINGATHING October: ROOTS MANUVA *Repeat said formula for 4 more years. General public won't notice a thing! No disrespect to anyone, but the Aberdeen club scene basically consists of Dave Clark, Lisa Lashes and Lisa Pin-Up every other month. I don't blame the promoters, they can obviously sell the same product 2 or 3 times a year and people will still choose a safe bet over seeing someone new. Pretty soon I'll have irreversible mental scars and the cynical attitude that you develop when promoting in Aberdeen for too long (think I might already have it). Woe is me...
  18. Why not Lo Down? 600 venue, with the option of closing down to 250. A General Manager who's very entertainment-minded (that's me, if it's not obvious already), good, reasonably priced booze (getting better once we get our full order in, and cocktail/shooter menu launched). Plus the likes of Mylo, etc. would not look out of place, considering next year we have James Lavelle and Gilles Peterson (tbc) lined up. Give me a shout if you want a look around the place. Out of curiousity (and market research): Has anyone made it to Lo Down yet? Don't want to hijack this thread, so feel free to PM me with any comments, suggestions (or even complaints).
  19. Every 2nd & 4th Friday: DELIVERANCE. Special Guests: 2nd Dec: Alex Phountzi (Bugz in the Attic) 10th Feb: Quantic 24th Feb: DJ Language (BBE/NYC) 4th Mar: Unabombers (Electric Chair/Manchester) 10th Mar: Gilles Peterson
  20. Rodney P Press Release: Rodney Ps long awaited solo album The Future moulds gospel, soul, dub and reggae into yet more evidence that hip hop from the UK is rapidly heading to the mainstream. From the Bob Marley inspired Trouble through to the heartfelt lyrical sermon I Believe Rodney delivers something rare, a thought provoking and mature LP that you can party your ass off to.
