  4. Lo Down is a new late-night lounge and club, housed in three supporting arches (dated circa. 1800) on Carnegies Brae below Aberdeens main thoroughfare, Union Street. 5. Wax in association with Sweet Premium presents RODNEY P (BBC 1XTRA) One of the most in-demand performers on the scene, Rodney P started life as part of the London Posse. Offered a support slot by Mick Jones (The Clash) for his new band Big Audio Dynamite, the Posse ended up supporting them a second time, gaining a recording contract with Big Life Records in the process. Supporting the likes of NWA and Soul II Soul, and releasing underground classics like Money Mad, Dedication and Hows Life in London, Rodney Ps stock was rising fast. A look back on his vast discography illustrates a whos who of the cream of UK hip-hop Roots Manuva, Nextmen, Blak Twang and Skinnyman. Not to mention collaborations with the likes of Roni Size, Bjork, Nitin Sawhney and Freq. Nasty along the way too. Fast forward to the present day, Rodney, and long-time cohort Skitz, have a weekly show on the BBCs flagship digital radio station, 1Xtra. Recent single, The Nice Up was released in March this year to critical acclaim and ended up on many a DJs playlist. The single is taken from his debut album The Future and released through Lowlife Records under his own Riddim Killa label. Support from Sweet Premium resident Dee J ALa Fu (Big Dada) Please be advised this is an early show (over 14s). Doors open at 8pm, curfew 11pm. 9. This is cool: http://www.ableton.com/_common/downloads/pages/user-area/artists/kid-beyond/kid-beyond.wmv
  10. Hopefully. We have to gauge public opinion first as there hasn't been this kind of market since the days of Lowlife/Lifestyle. Two Fridays a month, Martin Jay will be hosting his own night and we intend to bring up guests along the calibre of the afore-mentioned and the likes of Fat City, etc. Don't want to book too many guests at the moment as we'll have to see what nights work and what nights don't work. Confirmed already are: November 30th - RODNEY P December 9th - PETER HOOK (NEW ORDER) + MANI (STONE ROSES) - DJ Sets. Tickets for both these will be on sale in the next couple of weeks.
  11. ...or at least Rainer Truby. Does this appeal to anyone here? We're looking at the likes of Truby Trio, Bugz In The Attic, Jazzanova, etc. for Martin Jay's clubnights down at the old Vaults on Carnegies Brae (soon to be called Lo-Down). Yay or nay?
  12. I recommend our MC for WAX, Mayhem. Great flow, original voice and lots of confidence. PM me your mobile number and I'll get him to give you a phone.
  13. Maybe he doesn't like having his picture taken?
  14. This is my unbiased view, honest: DJ Q-Bert @ Kef in April and last week's Fingathing gig also @ Kef. Both Wax if I remember... Ok, non-Wax gigs? Mu @ Tunnels, just for the complete bizarreness.
  15. Initially a super-crew featuring the likes of DJ Babu, Melo-D, Shortkut, Cutmaster Swift and DJ Pogo, the X-Ecutioners were born from the East Coast collective, the X-Men. World renowned beat-jugglers and rivals of the innovative Invisibl Skratch Piklz, the X-Men consisted of Rob Swift, Roc Raida, Mista Sinista and Total Eclipse, although only Roc Raida is the only truly original member. As time and distance prevented the super, dual-coast crew from forming, the X-Men members took the X-Ecutioner name for themselves and became the first turntable orchestra. They signed to Loud Records and became label-mates with the Wu-Tang and Mobb Deep. From 1997 to 2004, they released four albums to critical acclaim, including the excellent Built From Scratch (2002) and Scratchology (2003). Although Rob released solo projects whilst with the X-Ecutioners, he decided in 2004 that a clean break was required. War Games is Robs third album and features esteemed guests such as Large Professor, DJ Quest and Akinyele. Following on from DJ Q-Bert, Wax is proud to host another pioneer of turntablism and DMC title holder; Rob Swift. www.djrobswift.com www.x-ecutioners.net Doors open early at 10pm for a preview showing of Rob Swifts new War Games DVD, curfew is 3am. Supported by Dee J ALa Fu, Giles Walker, Kid Bell, DJ Tez and DJ Gomes. Hosted by Mayhem. Advance tickets: 10 (1-Up/Fopp/www.seetickets.com). Alternatively, join the mailing list to receive a discount. Enquiries to waxhiphop@gmail.com.
  16. Archie Simpsons is good if you like shellsuits and people who piss themselves, then sit all day drinking. For hip-hop (not Diddy, 50 Piss or Jadapiss) try our Wax night on the third Friday of every month at Kef. TONIGHT: FINGATHING NEXT MONTH: ROB SWIFT (X-ECUTIONERS)
  17. ROB SWIFT (X-ECUTIONERS) Advance tickets are now on sale from One-Up, Fopp or online at www.seetickets.com, priced 10. For those who witnessed the deft skills of DJ Q-Bert in April, you won't want to miss this one, and those who did miss Q-Bert...well, don't miss this too! The doors will be opening early at 10pm for a sneak preview of Swift's new DVD, "War Games". Friday 21st October More info: http://www.mp3.com/rob-swift/artists/185610/biography.html http://www.x-ecutioners.net/ Alternatively, check out the new album on iTunes and other download sites.
  18. Pretty much the same with the clubs Ian. Looks like I'll be doing write-ups on WAX and the new Carnegies Brae venue every month! I'll spell it out to all bands, DJ's, clubs and indy promoters: THIS ADVERTISING IS FREE. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SEND ONE EMAIL A MONTH WITH INFO. WE DO THE REST...IT'S SO FUCKING SIMPLE. Just think, if this guide takes off and space is at a premium, those in it from the beginning will get first refusals.
  19. Next month we have former X-Ecutioner, DJ Rob Swift, up previewing his new "War Games" DVD. All those at the Q-Bert night won't want to miss this one. In November, negotiations are still ongoing to bring up the mighty Jazzy Jeff. There will also be a competition, with the winner getting to throw JJ out of the building Fresh Prince-style! As with Fingathing, discounts on tickets for Rob Swift and Jazzy Jeff (tbc) will be available to Wax mailing list members. Join up by sending an email to waxhiphop@gmail.com.
  20. FINGATHING Time Capsule Tour Originally members of Rae & Christians live crew, DJ Peter Parker and double-bassist Sneakys almost telepathic free-styling led to the creation of Fingathing. This duos incredible live shows consisting of live double-bass and scratched, cut-up beats with added visuals have been further supported by three full-length studio albums, including last years And The Big Red Nebula Band. This time round, the guys are promoting their new compilation album, Time Capsule. Peter Parker was signed up to Grand Central Records after competing in a UK DMC Final, judged by head honcho, Mark Rae. As those who have witnessed him will bear testament, his live shows are both awesome and awe-inspiring. His pure technical displays using classic 70s break beats and underground hip-hop have hypnotised many crowds and gained him many fans. Parker is also a member of the Cutting Crew turntablist collective, alongside Statik and ex-DMC World Champion, DJ Noize. Sneaky is a classically-trained double bassist, having achieved Grade 8 with distinction. Resident at Manchesters seminal hip-hop night, Eardrum, led to a gig in Malaysia which led to guest and session work for the likes of Dillinga, Lemon D (Metalheadz) and Mr Scruff (Sneaky worked on Scruff releases, Keep It Unreal and Trouser Jazz). When not in his hip-hop guise, Sneaky can occasionally be spotted in the line-up at midweek jazz sessions in Manchester or Liverpool alongside members of Aim and Cinematic Orchestra. Support from Kid Bell & Giles Walker Hosted by Mayhem Advance tickets priced 8 available from One-Up, Fopp or online at www.seetickets.com Doors open 11pm FRIDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER KEF :: BELMONT STREET :: ABERDEEN www.fingathing.com
  21. You can GIVE me a t-shirt. I'll wear it everytime i wake up and advertise Deadloss throughout my whole flat...but when I step outside, I'm wearing something else. Deal?
