  1. Righty... I currently have a Mesa Engineering Single Rectifier Rect-O-Verb Solo 50 combo. I want more bottom end. Do I: A) Buy a Mesa Recto Standard 4x12 and use it with the combo as an extension cab? B)Buy a Mesa Recto Standard 4x12 and use it with the combo as an extension cab and then sell the combo when I get some more money and buy a Dual Rectifier Solo head? C)Buy a Mesa Recto Standard 4x12 and use it with the combo as an extension cab and then sell the combo when I get some more money and buy an ENGL Powerball head? It will be generally for gigs in school hall sized places. 200ish people turnouts. Also for use of practicing/jamming with a drummer in my garage. I want a sound similar to what I have but with more bottom end, it's too fuzzy. but with bass at 10, there's still not enough bottom end. Tweaking other settings hasn't helped. I've played about with it A LOT. Cranking the master volume makes it better but it doesn't have as much headroom as I'd like so doesn't stay as super clear at higher volumes. I'm reasonably happy with my current sound but it's just a matter of more bass really and the same harsh level of gain (think Metallica - Live @#%$ San Diego type sound) without the fizziness. I use a Custom Explorer with a mahogany body, rosewood top, EMG pickups as my main guitar and an ESP KH-2 Neck Thru as my second guitar. I also have a Gibson Les Paul Standard Limited Edition for the lower tuned stuff. A Morley Mark Tremonti Power Wah and soon enough a Digitech Whammy are the only effects going in. Opinions? James
  2. Hello peoples. I'm looking for a Mesa Engineering Standard Angled 4x12 cab in very good condition. Also after a Dual Rectifier Head or ENGL Powerball head. Will exchange my Mesa Single Rectifier Rect-O-Verb combo for the amp head, but not the cab (I won't have anything to put through it otherwise!) James
  3. re Dude! I was just checking through the threads to see if anyone was looking to play bass and/ or sing in a metal band! Well, me and my drummer Stuart are currently looking for a bassist and singer for a band. Our main influences are early Metallica, Slayer, Pantera and Machine Head. We're both 16 and been playing 3 years. How about yourself? James
  4. re What has four legs and an arm? A rottweiler in a playground
  5. re What's black and blue and hates sex? The baby in my boot
  6. re All are in the order of who, in my opinion, was best on the night. (Gigs are in order of my favourite gig of the year, not chronological or random etc.) 1. Slayer, Slipknot, Mastodon, Hatebreed - SECC 2. Metallica, Slipknot, Korn, HIM - Glasgow Green (Download - day 1) 3. Machine Head, Lostprophets, Iggy Pop, Linkin Park, The Distillers - Glasgow Green (Download - day 2) 4. Weeping Jesus, Femora, Filthpact - Moorings 5. Black Atom, Breed 77, MAB - Moshulu 6. Cathedral, HIM - Music Hall James
  7. re Hey dude, just to say, R&B sold the 812 on Saturday. James
  8. re Hey guys, will me and my friend be alright getting in as we're both 16? I know someone from weeping jesus and am keen to see them. James
  9. re I was gonna say both of them as we know both of them too. I just usually find the faster songs more fun to play instead, but if our own stuff is all reasonably fast then seasons would work well. James
  10. re A pearl export ex would be good, i play guitar and intend to start drums. I think i'm gonna go for a pearl forum, its like their intro kit and will be about 439. I just want something better than a session pro and that will last me a while without NEEDING to upgrade. James
  11. re Yeah i totally understand the not playing of famous songs. For slayer, it'd prob be spirit in black, skeletons of society or postmortem. For metallica it'd be no remorse, blackened or holier than thou. Pantera would be domination, strength beyond strength or fucking hostile. What metallica and slayer and pantera songs usually get played? James
  12. my band James Hetfield: Rhythm guitar and vocals Alex Webster (Cannibal Corpse): Bass Joey Jordison: Drums Dimebag Darrell: Lead Guitar
  13. yeah i know the 612 aint as good, hence why the red 812 is better! the 612's aren't bad but meh, id go for the 812 if i had the choice. James
  14. re We were thinking one Metallica, one Slayer, one Pantera. That kinda thing. Shows that we can pull off the different stuff aswell sorta thing. And obviously originals too. Keep replies coming dudes, I wanna know how the majority would take to the idea, cos we don't wanna get slaughtered as you're saying. James
  15. re We (R&B) also have a see thru black and see thru orange aswell. I like the red most too though. Go for it dude! James
  16. Hello peoples. Just been thinking, I'm gonna be getting gigs up and running soonish hopefully and was wondering, whats the deal on covering songs? Is it greatly frowned upon or welcomed? Like for instance to maybe have an 8 song set and play original, cover, original, original, cover, original, cover, original. Would that be bad? Cos me and my drummer have been changing about some parts of songs and think it would be stupid to neglect them for playing live. What do you people with more knowledge/ experience think? James
  17. re ^^^ dude, fucking right. What an absolute cockwhore thing to say man, Dimebag was such a legend, one of my biggest inspirations and a pioneer of power metal. To have such a tragic thing happen to the poor guy and you show such disrespect If a similar thing happens to one of your musical heroes that alot of us dont idolise, then you wont see us moaning about peoples pity. James
  18. yeah yeah i am. and i need to sell the ZW so I can fund the gibson i ordered.. please buy it! James
  19. come on people Surely there is someone out there willing to sing? If not, are there any bands coming together that are looking for a drummer and rhythm player for stuff along the lines of Metallica, Slayer, Slipknot, Sepultura, Pantera, Megadeth etc. If so, then let me know. James
  20. Hello peoples. As the title says, I'm selling my Epi ZW LP, good condition, 19 months old, no previous problems, 800 new, asking 550. Interested? PM me or reply here. James
  21. oops Crap! I never noticed the date of the last post, its just that it was quite far up in the forum already and I seen something I disagreed with. Damn me and my Noob-ness, only registered yesterday. Won't happen again. James
  22. re Yeah I know, Winter NAMM. But it most likely will not have a Kahler, they'll stick a Floyd on it like they did with the 'S & Key' Hanneman they brought out earlier in the year. I already have plans to grab a Hetfield Eclipse which I think is coming from Winter NAMM too. Then I'll hunt for the Hanneman from above. And as for the ESP custom shop getting close, they have said they will not take any new orders with Kahler trems on them. Not for a while anyway, Kahler isn't fully back in the swing of things yet. James
  23. This Is The Best Thread Ever Now that i have your attention.... Hello peoples. Me (James: rhythm guitar) and Stuart (drums) are looking for a singer for a predominantly thrash metal band. We'd be looking for someone that's inspired heavily by Slayer and Metallica (specifically up until ...Justice). We are both 16 and have someone on their way for the bass slot (he's still learning). As for lead guitar, I can handle some songs, but a good shredder may be required too. We have no gigging experience as of yet, well, we played some mock song in a church (played Slayer - God Send Death to warm up though, tried to keep it real!). You'd need to be serious as it isn't The Darkness of thrash that we are aiming to become here. Anyone interested? Reply to the thread and/or PM me. Cheers, James
