  1. Absolutely appalling and very sad. Had that letter been opened, the consequences are pretty unthinkable. Hopefully the police find them, and lock them up permanently.
  2. I don't subscribe to the notion that there is any deliberate bias among referees towards the Old Firm. What I would say, with my rose-tinted specs on, is that there is a fear factor among our referees re. awarding big decisions against the OF....particularly on their own patch. Countless Dons games vs the OF that I've attended have convinced me of this. I always watch games on TV that I've attended to try and clarify any controversial incidents that I was outraged about at the ground, hopefully in a more impartial state of mind! In my experience, this rarely changes my view of the original decision. The point has been made that "more time in the opposition box = more penalties", which is a pretty obvious and correct statement to make, and I don't think anyone would dispute that. Also, nobody is saying that the OF get 100% of the decisions ALL the time, so sure, the OF will often have an axe to grind about injustices they've suffered too.....but in my experience the OF get the rub of the green far too often. Of course, all this is open to interpretation, and it would be far more instructive to get opinions from impartial fans who are uninvolved with either the OF or the clubs that bear the brunt of any perceived injustice.
  3. Lactic is what affects you during strenuous exercise....what comes afterwards is called DOMS: Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness. Obligatory Wiki link EDIT: Too slow as usual. I blame Delayed Onset of Muscle Slowness....a related disorder.
  4. It was shaping up to be a decent game until the red card. While I agree that the ref made the right decision re. awarding the pen and sending Considine off, I think it's a ludicrous rule that needs looking at. To award a penalty AND reduce the team to 10 men for a non-dangerous tackle is a massive over-punishment and destroyed the game as a contest. Penalty is more than sufficient. Collum observed the rule correctly, but the rule is fucking dumb IMHO.
  5. Can someone explain why Hearts are apparently so keen to sign Zander Diamond? Committed and brave, perhaps, but positionally weak, gets bullied by big strikers and has a long history of defensive blundering. I'd love to see the back of him, just have no idea why Hearts think he'll improve their team.
  6. Soft, but it was a daft challenge to make. Young caught him, but he went down like a tonne of bricks. Probably a pen.....just.
  7. Martin Bain, yet again, proclaiming that his club are already doing all they can to combat bigotry. Even if that were true (which it isn't), it's too little too late. Those cunts have been actively stoking the flames for years whilst cynically masqerading it as something innocent e.g. the commemerative orange strip to "honour their dutch stars".....the vile adaptation of Simply the Best at every home game while the club turned a blind eye. Year upon year upon year of utter filth sung and shouted from Rangers fans at every away ground in the country, and nothing ever happens. Rangers are a big fish in a small pond in Scottish terms.....in European terms though, they're fuck all. Hopefully UEFA show the sort of bravery in punishing them that the SFA never has.

    Vegans

This site has details of which beers/wines are vegan-friendly. A vegan I work with was crestfallen when I showed this to her, as she was blissfully aware that her favourite beers all had isinglass in them (from fish!). Oops. Vegan Beer - Vegan Wine - Vegan Liquor
  9. Excellent. All I need is a supergroup of maths geeks and we're away.
  10. I like this word. I think I might use it for my next band. Virgule can be the first album.
  11. y = (sin ^ 3......this is a function in a function. So you need to use the chain rule.....dy/dx = dy/du . du/dx You need to split them out into parts.....ie. let's call (sin "u", which gives you: y = u^3 Differentiating this gives: dy/du = 3u^2 u = sin x du/dx = cos x multiply..... dy/dx = 3u^2.cos x substitute "u = sin x" into the above, and rearrange: dy/dx = 3(cos (sin ^2
  12. 3(cos (sin ^2...............i think.
  13. As i said, the only totally unambiguous way is to use more brackets, but having various different conventions that produce different answers is, frankly, gay. Small wonder we're all arguing about it!
  14. Yup, agree with that. Sorry to continually harp on about BODMAS, but it's relevant. The only truly unambiguous way to write this out is to use more brackets. If however, someone chooses to write it differently e.g. 48/2(9+3), then you need some kind of convention to tell you how to evaluate it in the correct order. I totally accept and agree that mult/div and subtract/add are equivalent and there's no logical reason why one operator should have precedence over its inverse, but you need to adopt some sort of consistent convention (ie. BODMAS) in these situations otherwise you end up with multiple possible outcomes to a question that should only have one answer. If you follow BODMAS to the letter, you only get one answer....which is 228. Whether this is what the guy who wrote the equation in the first place intended, I dunno.....but BODMAS is there to ensure that things are evaluated consistently, despite the precedence rules not making total sense. [/street cred]
  15. ....and it is exactly because they have equal importance that we need a convention that tells us how to evaluate ambiguous looking expressions in the correct order. That convention is BODMAS, and that requires you do the division first. Of course, the unambiguous way to do this is to use more brackets.....but in the absence of these brackets, you've got to follow the precedence rules. 288.
  16. No, you dont need the extra brackets. . In the absence of brackets, division comes before mult, so you should always do 48/2, before 2*12. Just follow the precedence rules!
  17. It's 288. BODMAS.....brackets, orders, division, mult, add, subtract 48/2(9+3) This is the same as saying 48/2*(9+3) So, first expand the brackets: 48/2*12 Division takes precedence over multiplication so, next divide 48 by 2: 24 * 12 Last do the multiplication.....288. It is absolutely not 2!
  18. ......288 Division comes first.
  19. Apologies if already posted, but couldn't be arsed checking. Number 2 just about ended me.
  20. Does anyone know if there's a facility in Aberdeen that will store winter tyres for me? Got a 4x4 and the tyres are friggin' massive and I don't have the space.
  21. Police once needed to break into my house through a first-storey window because I was so shit-faced I'd locked my then girlfriend out of the house, and had fallen asleep in the bathroom in a pool of my own sick. I think Isobel Lang the weathergirl is awesome.
