  1. Twas indeed a great feature! Gaudie never had that much good taste in my day. Hey, Goodfellas is cool and all that, but what would suit the Moorings best of all would be a screening of Scotland's very own Goodfellas, JUST A BOY'S GAME, starring the great Frankie Miller1 It's impossible to get hold of, but I have a copy!
  2. Well Cavern Mike's band, whose name has momentarily escaped me, and Prestonpanz were both brilliant at Drakes on Sunday. (I'm sure the other band were too, but I didn't get to see them!)
  3. There's nothing wrong wi' the Balaclava. The Queen Vic used to be my local, but it was very dull: why would any pub want to model itself on a 50s style London pub? Mind you, I was in there on Monday and saw an absolutely stunning girl alone and lounging in a booth engrossed in a novel, so maybe its changing its clientelle... There's always The Grill, The Belmont and The King's Bar...
  4. Helay helay helay... Sorry I didn't get online to answer your question about Monday Stu. I took a mate of mine in and hyad to tear myself away from the incrediblke jukebox: where else could you find Chelsea Monday by Marillion! (The rest of my quid went on If Only by Hazel O'Connor, I'm In Love With A German Film Star by The Passions, Alternative Ulster by SLF and Echo Beach by M&TMs. And then I spotted Pallas on there! Rescued my Foxtrot CD thanks Flash. Had a great time and I'm gloomy to be back in London. See you folks again very soon. Listened to Exit Wound again when I got in last night and Can-Utility, but I can't hear half of what I heard in them on Saturday through that system. Now if only Judee Sill's The Kiss was on CD!
  5. Was a smashing night! Will be byy tonight to collect ma CD and naturally have a few shandies too. That sound system is fantastic! And I loved the fact that Cloud was slowly getting sucked into Field of Crows! Bet you've gone and bought it now but are keeping it hidden under the bed!
  6. I stay in London although I'm up in Aberdeen for a week just now, have to say despite what people who've never lived there say its a very friendly city. Mainly because hardly anoyone who lives there and goes out to bars is local, they are all young people living there for a few years and enjoying the place. Its a bit like when you go on holiday and other visitors of your age tend to ask you if you can recommend good places to go, its very laid back like that. Other god venues: The Water Rats in King's Cross for gigs, a new Marquee is now reopened in Soho but not been yet, The Garage at Camden is a great place on Saturday nights for an unpretentious and cheap place to drink and dance to indie, the St Mortiz Club in Wardour St is still a brilliant late night drinking and dancing rock and indie venue, and Portobello Road is magical for the market on Saturdays and the great sausage and mash shop with twenty different types of gravy! Also for record shops, try Music and Video Exchange in Notting Hill (one for reto clothes, one for jazz and funk, one for rock and pop) and Reckless at Angel.
  7. Looks like I'm likely to be dropping by Monday night as well folks, as I'mn having drinks with an old mate I have na seen for about ten years so we're going on a pub crawl. I take it Mudd Club isn't still happening on Mondays these days...where's worth going to post pub?
  8. New Found Power's comment sums it all up. Looks like Harry's taking after his Grandad. The Sun is probably desperately waiting for the time when some sexual scandal breaks so they can finally have the headline "Dirty Harry".
  9. I have two neat ones: This world is a comedy to those who think and a tragedy to those who feel. (Walpole) and can't remember who said this, but "My grandfather told me once that living is like licking honey off a thorn."
  10. When I put a picture in the galleries I did it in good faith, now I feel like I'm being judged!
  11. Its a pity the new remastered The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway isn't out yet! I think its gonna have to be And Then There Were Three. Say Its Alright Joe in The Moorings seems just irresistible.
  12. Clutch is of course the ULTIMATE bar album. Field of Crows...so good, but a few lousy songs too of course. Exit Wound, Shot the Craw and Scattering Crows are wonderful. I can live without some of the dad-rock elsewhere though! MInd you, I've always wanted to hear Grendel in a bar!
  13. Parts of it aren't meant to be funny: does this mean they would have failed if people had laughed at those bits? If it ain't meant to be funny it ain't comedy. I was struck when watching that "Comedian's Comedian" that Eric Morecambe and Charlie Chaplin, and Peter Cook, have never made me laugh. Morecambe was comfortable and cozy but not in my view hysterically funny. Chaplin may well have been clever, but at the end of the day the point is to raise a chuckle surely. Although as this thread proves, one person's meat is another's Ben Elton.
  14. I loathe Dibley: did anyone see the New Year Special which turned into a charity appeal?
  15. I'm thinking And Then There Were Three actually...or some IQ. Then again there's Clutching at Straws....heck this is tough! Brave is a seriously good choice Stu... HELP!
  16. Wow! Well Thursday and Saturday I'll be there until you're kicking out so will do! Brilliant!
  17. See this is why The Moorings is simply the best bar in Scotland. I'm up for a week tis time but then a long-term stay this summer and possibly a permanent one... hopeing for the IPA to be on tap by then!!
  18. YTOu mean Love Thy Neighbour, it was on 100 Greatest TV MOments From Hell. Til Death and In Sickness always escpae criticism because they were trying to ridicule bigotry. I actually think although their intentions were honourable, Til Death and In Sickness actually just encouraged it as the laughs always derived from Alf insulting a "nig nog" or whatever. Love Thy Neighbour at least laughed AT the lead character rather than with him. So how does Billy Connolly rate with us all after recent events?
  19. Its funny I always loved it once Neil Stuke joined, though Ben Chaplin was too annoying in it. And it did have one great line I can still remember, as Matthew sat armas folded, manic stare on his face and finally said "Claire's bedroom was FESTOONED with jissum last night..after our shag fest." But generally I think the same sort of concepts have been done much better since then in other shows.
  20. Loved Game On, adore The Office, but at present am REALLY into Peep Shgow, think its absolutely hilarious. Anyone else agree?
  21. I'm back again folks...Stu, how's Saturday 22nd in The Moorings for you?
  22. I must disagree with Sophie Bodast actually on one thing: Genesis 1967-78, not 77, were the best band ever! Greatest hits ad: Follow You Follow me was on it, can't remember what else but probably No Son of Mine and Turn It On Again.
  23. I'm certainly not going to argue.
  24. They are very good, although to me always seemed like a band it was more fun to play in than to listen to for too long. I much prefer Phil's pre Genesis band Flaming Youth (originally Hickory, fact fans): their album Ark II is super.
