  1. I agree with absolutely every word of that post Bodast. Harlequin, lovely. Oooh, I have a terrible bootleg of that from 1970! Solo wise: A Curious Feeling is the only Banks worth checking out, though I ain't heard Strictly Inc which I have heard is good. I love Voyage of the Acolyte too, a magical album and as they say, the best Genesis album that never was! Feeding the Fire is another great B Side, better than ANYTHING that made it onto Invisible Touch, which it was recorded for! I saw The Musical Box on the Selling England tour and it was, in honesty, the best gig I have ever been too. It was a chance to do the impossible, and visit 1973. I always said if I had a time machine I'd use it in part to go to great gigs! It was spookily good and also made me see why Genesis caught on...those video clips don'tr do justice to how effective Gabriel was live, I always thought most of the costumes (except the old man) looked daft until I saw this!
  2. Disc four also has The Shepherd on. wow! I take it you're going to see The Musical Box do The Lamb in Glasgow then! I can't wait! How are you on the solo stuff, and Calling all Stations?
  3. Likewise, they saved my childhood from being utterly crap! Trespass was the one, although strangely I loved And Then There Were Three too, which not many people too. Am I Very Wrong was another favourite....so adolescent! And Place to Call My Own is really quite affecting the way it reprises AIVW. Another favourite is Vancouver, too short but what a track!
  4. I'm forever gonna be Genesis boy over ELP, I just can't find any band thatg can ever give me that tingle factor in the same way. My very favourite Genesis stuff is actually 1970ish, I love Pacidy and Let Us Now Make Love and Trespass, it sounds so pastoral and Gabriel's voice is gorgeous. And nope, I've NEVER looked like Axl Rose! The Nice...Rondo is great, especially since it inspired Banks to write The Knife!
  5. Exactly, so Christians saying "God is love" and the concept of an all-loving being is nonsensical...
  6. The thing that always gets me is whether there is a God or not, since when does it follow that "God is love". If he's everything, then isn't it wishful thinking to suggest he's somehow just love? he also creates the people that stab other people in alleyways after all.
  7. Having been away from the city a while, I wondered what became of the bands I remember seeing a lot of when I lived in Aberdeen: The Warmth, Living with Alice, Missing Jane, Cherry 2000 and The Lorelei were some of the ones I recall....
  8. By the way I'll also be celebrating Christmas in mid-January seeing as I've worked right the way through this one! I'm sure the Phil Spector album sounds just as good in January mind
  9. John's a smashing guy and a terrific bassist! IQ well worth a listen or two, especially The Wake and Subterranea. And too young for me? I keep getting called Busted Boy what with ma new hair I'll have ya know!
  10. I love this intriguing "one in particular". Make sure you're all free mid-January! I agree about ELP but I always forget how much of their stuff I love until I listen to it again! The first album I ever tried was Trilogy, borrowed it from Tillydrone Library and thought The Endless Enigma was fabulous. Even The Sheriff is fine, unlike the other albums' "comedy song"...Jeremy Bender and Benny the Bouncer are utter shit... I picked up Sinfield's solo album in The Cavern a whilke back, very lush and mellow, not great but listenable... Stu what's your thoughts on IQ and...here's a name from the past...Pete Brown and Piblokto? By the way, I like Asia!
  11. I love this forum! How did we nearly meet, did ELP girl arrive after I left? Still can't believe I didn't make it back there, better do it very majorly next time to compensate! And now can I ask a VERY sad question: is the version of I Believe in Father Christmas on Works II not the original? If not, where is the original available?
  12. When I saw Fish in London last month Palmer was supporting, and soloing us to death! He played the final section of Trilogy...I'd rather have the first bit! Take a Pebble, that's another gem. The Barbarian though has to be one of the most dramatic and exciting opening moments for any band. Another favourite moment is the climax to Karn Evil 9 Part One, always does it for me. I was very shocked to see Lake on the 100 Greatest Christmas Moments the other night looking like Ena Sharples...blimey he has NOT aged well! Just on the subject of ELP reminds me of how I was once in Virgin on Union Street when the Endless Enigma part one started playing and no-one batted an eyelid! A few weeks later I remember hearing After The Ordeal by Genesis upstairs in HMV...who was this prog fan who was clearly working his way through the record shops and getting fired from each one!
  13. That's not good, I have to say. Music is tops though. I mean John Lennon could be a tosser at times, but it doesn't stop me loving The Beatles.
  14. Poor me having to sit here doing BBC things on Christmas Day! Stu, as a result of work I can't come home until Jan 15th, major drinks then with some Marillion playin on the moorings jukebox? Oh yes ELP lady, I do indeed have Trilogy, my favourite! The opening of Fugue and the start of Trilogy itself are favourites but Emerson does occasionally bugger about just a bit too much. On BSS I love everything except Benny the Bouncer and Toccata. I remember feeling dead chuffed with myself when I learnt to play the start of Fugue but never got further than about fifteen seconds in...life's too short! I stuck to Mark Kelly solos, they're piss easy!
  15. I do actually have Poseidon too, that's the one with The Devil's Triangle on isn't it? Will try Red, heard good things about it. This morning I actually listened to Brain Salad Surgery by ELP, this album always reminds me of Xmas because I got it for Christmas years ago!
  16. I think if you like the singles you'll be delighted with it. Incidentally, can you guide me a little with King Crimson, I only really know the first album, which (with the exception of the end of Moonchild) is staggering.
  17. No I can't agree, something slightly magical about them, very unique sound.
  18. Absolutely, track one, Wanderlust, is what made me buy the album, although at the mo Long Time Coming (track 3) is the fave for me.
  19. Yay! Another fan out there! Could be a late winner of my album of the year.
  20. Just wanted to share with everyone that I've just picked up Faded Seaside Glamour by the Delays and its a stunner, I can really recommend this for a Chrissy pressie for your nearest and dearests!
  21. I am so gutted it turned out to be such a brief visit! I had intended to show my face, nip off for a couple of hours cos I had to catch up with anothyer mate in Belmont St and then head back, and I ended up getting totally waylaid, if you know what I mean. But even for the brief moments I was there, a stunning job has been done with the place and I can't wait for a proper long evening session in there! Blinding. Will be back on 28th December for a whole fortnight. Also am gonna be in Aberdeen for the 31st, what's planned for the pub that night?
  22. Think I'll try and drop by to this before I hit The Moorings!
  23. I'll probs not be along until a bit later, as so many people to catch up with, but will def be there!
  24. OKay folks, I'll see you in there next Saturday night (27th). Will probs be back in the week too, poss on Thursday! Stuart do say hello, how will I know you?
  25. For me I'd opt for Clutch (the ultimate drinking record, and the opening of That Time of the Night always reminds me of the docks in Aberdeen for some reason, something about the atmosphere of it! I'd also plump for B'Sides Themselves because of Grendel! Still not got the remastered Script so haven't heard the demo'd Grendel on there. I agree about both eras, I love Brave and Seasons, though I don't think much else post-Fish comes close. Still coming to terms with Field of Crows, love Exit Wound but so far am still trying to get to grips with the rest before I see him live next week. (Fish on Monday, Tippi on Tuesday) Agree about Pallas, never saw much of a similarity myself between Marillion, Pallas, Jadis or IQ, the four neo-prog bands I liked. News just in...looks like I may be moving back home for a bit chaps, so this could become more regular than once a month!
