  1. Sounds like an interesting idea to me. I'd be up for going to this and potentially getting involved in some capacity.
  2. I've just put together a soundcloud with all the live sets from Binary School to date. https://soundcloud.com/binary-school All live electronic performances.
  3. The loopholes are there so the politicians can take advantage of them, same as their double income or "expenses". There are a lot of millionaires in the House of Commons, I wonder how many of them have set up a business that makes a loss to offset against their earnings.
  4. This is my current live set up:
  5. Just pre-ordered an Elektron Analog Rytm http://www.elektron.se/products/analog-rytm?section=specs It should arrive next week some time so I will try and get it going for my FatHand gig on 10th May. If you are into this sort of thing come along to the Binary School and I can show you how it works and have a wee shot. Current live set up is Elektron Octatrack, Elektron Analog 4 and Access Virus TI Polar.
  6. Are there multiple outputs from the brain for each piece of the kit? If you are happy with the sound of the kit could you not just record the stereo output into your DAW?
  7. I've just purchased some UAD powered plugins and they are absolutely amazing. I have no idea how much it would cost to buy the actual hardware they are trying to emulate but it would be extremely unattainable. So far I have only used them on a couple of projects but based on those sessions the quality is clear. If you are taking production seriously and want to go up a notch this is definitely a good way to get there. You have to have either the UA Satellite or one of the Apollo series interfaces (also excellent). The new Desktop Apollo Twin looks very interesting!
  8. What kind of sound are you looking for?
  9. Indian Red Lopez produce some decent music. I really like Oliver Richards based on the two times I've seen him play Cellar 35.
  10. The only thing that might be impacted are any synths with panning effects or if any of your clips were hard panned left or right. Perhaps any slight panning would reduce the volume of certain parts in the mix. Sounded great when I was listening to it.
  11. I'm extremely happy that there is the makings of an interesting electronic scene in Aberdeen. I really like Fiona Soe Paing's music, the animation element is totally unique too. Looking forward to seeing her new performance. Autumn Hang and Godzilla Blues who played at the first Binary School event were both fantastic, I'm not sure who/what to compare Autumn Hang to other than something like Com Truise but with perhaps a bit more drive: http://soundcloud.com/autumn-hang Godzilla Blues was really atmospheric and quite ambient: https://soundcloud.com/godzillablues The electronic thing is really hard to do live so anyone that can do it well gets the thumbs up from me!
  12. I have an editor Keys one and it's decent for what it is. I think the SE pro ones are probably even better. I guess it totally depends what kind of room you have.
  13. Good stuff! Really enjoying your tracks.
  14. Any of you guys interested in having your finished tracks played at Binary School events?
  15. Binary School is a place for producers and performers of electronic music in Aberdeen and the North East of Scotland to showcase their work. Our events treat audiences to intimate and informal performances of live electronica and provide a platform for DJs to push the boundaries and introduce us to great music. We are going to explore the diversity of live electronic performance that is starting to emerge as well as sharing some of the amazing music being produced locally. It is a great chance to listen to each other, discuss how we achieve our sound and share ideas on production, performance and technique. Our first event went really well, there was a great atmosphere and everyone was really interested in what was going on. The plan is to go down the line of recording and filming performances to display on the Binary School website http://www.binary-school.co.uk/. We also plan to do some short interviews with willing participants on their set ups, how they write and how they go about taking productions to the stage. One step at a time though, I'm in the process of confirming venues for our next few events. There are several acts ready to go but we need more so please get in touch by PM on here or binaryschooluk@gmail.com if you are starting to or already perform your electronic music live. Any producers who would like to have tracks played out on one of our nights should also get in touch - it is always great to hear your tracks played loud. Also looking for more DJs so if you like to experiment, there isn't a night anywhere in town catering for your style or you have something different you want to explore drop me a line, happy to hear your ideas. I'll use this thread for updating gig dates and line ups. Chip in with ideas and feedback if you have any! Colin
  16. I think if you spoke to John Anderson at http://57north.org/ he might be able to include a section for people who want to do reviews. He used to run http://thekiosque.com/. The thinking behind 57N was to have a hub of all creative activity in the local area, including events guide and resources section. An events and released work review section with lots of contributors would probably be a very welcome addition. It would also encourage repeat viewings and increased content. in fact - http://57north.org/get-involved
  17. I've plugged your EP a wee bit http://57north.org/news/interview-binary-school Might be worth getting in touch with them, they might do a short article for you.
  18. A short interview I did for 57North: http://57north.org/news/interview-binary-school Helps define what we are wanting the night to be like. Hopefully see some of you on Saturday.
  19. Running out of practice time for a gig so unfortunately going to have to miss this. Really gutted. I hope it goes well!
  20. This is coming up next weekend. Please come along, I don't want there to be more synthesisers than people!
