  1. For mixing tracks you'll want something that isn't going to fatigue your ears so go with open cup, I use a pair of Sennheiser HD650s which are pricey but extremely natural sounding reference headphones. They are definitely not the kind of headphones you wear out on the street. Most of the big brands do high end referencing headphones, I've always liked the look of Grado headphones - they start expensive and go to stupidly expensive though. It's worth having some closed cup headphones for tracking as you need the seal to reduce the amount of sound bleeding into your recording from whatever you have monitoring. http://www.soundsliveshop.com/p/BeyerDynamic_DT150_Studio_Headphones/BYR-DT150?CAWELAID=1830894950&catargetid=1821230900&cagpspn=pla&gclid=CLP_1eP39LcCFWbJtAodZEwAmA Do some research and get a listen to as many different ones as you can.
  2. Saxophone is woodwind but is part of a brass section in the sense the origianal poster means. I do have a brass section however we are taking a break for several months while two of the guys go traveling. Give me a shout if you want some help.

  4. I've just bought myself a Rocktron Banshee 2. I know that video is a bit of a joke but you can actually build your own if you can pull the bits together that you need. I found some instructions ages ago but I'm not hugely technical and never followed it through. The most expensive part is the horn driver.
  5. It's a good starting point I guess. I still say add a PA to the venue and remove the under 50 fee.
  6. Assuming you can't get 50 people along and you have to hire a PA and potentially a sound engineer to keep you sounding good enough to charge on the door, it's not really a financially viable option for most of us in original music groups. It's a shame this isn't an actual music venue as it could be cool. Chris, stick in a PA, remove the 50+ thing and you might be on to something. Look at how they are doing it in Cellar 35. It's good to see a potential venue of your size but if you want to properly get into it you have to take the rough with the smooth!
  7. These are Alan Morrison's details, he is based in Kingswells. I believe he is one of the only keyboard repair specialists in Scotland. I'm booking in my Fender Rhodes for a service with him. Keyboard Services Scotland 9 Kingswood Road,Kingswells Aberdeen ,Scotland AB15 8TD Specialists in the repair and servicing of all electronic musical equipment. Authorised service for Roland,Yamaha & Technics Vintage restorations & spares supplied
  8. What are stage times likely to be for this? There are a few people with clashing gigs to go to/play at but would come along depending on the time.
  9. I agree with that. It seems fairly futile if we don't interact with one another. It's great to see a diverse range of styles from electronic producers who are posting on here. I have been listening to all of the tracks, some are definitely more impressive than others although I think it is often down to knowledge and experience as well as time spent mixing. I'd be interested to hear what techniques people have been using to create their tracks, if you can be bother putting up a short description it could spark some discussion and open up some novel production ideas to other people. The last track I posted started out as an improvised piano jam which I then chopped up and time stretched to make a kind of yawning piano chord progression. I also recorded live Juno 6 arpeggiated lines playing around with the tempo of the appegiatior. The vocal sounding patches were recorded from my virus. I think other than that, the drums were played in using NI Maschine. I usually find drums the hardest bit but I'm quite pleased at how they came out on this track. I had everything plugged into a pretty rubbishy mixing desk with the stereo out plugged into my sound card. This introduced some unwelcome hiss into my mix on the Juno tracks but didn't really have the time or inclination to re-record since it was just a little ditty.
  10. New track, was a bit of a cobbled together job but i think there are some nice moments in it.
  11. That sounds perfect. I don't mind wiring a plug on if you can't find one!
  12. Finally someone has taken away the Casio FZ-1! Thank you Young Adolesent, I hope you enjoy it. Perhaps you could see if anyone on here has a floppy drive up for grabs to help load some samples into that beast. I'm still on the look out for a working tape deck. Even a loan of one would be welcome. I need to convert a bunch of old tape recordings my folks made of me, bro and sis playing pieces when we were young from tape to digital. I'll probably just bid for one off Ebay but checking here first. I would like to reiterate conditions that should apply for all freecycles - if you find you no longer want an item or no longer have use for it you must repost here or on another freecycle site. Selling items on is unacceptable and goes against the spirit of the process.
  13. I am looking for a working tape deck - anyone looking to get rid? I still have a 1987 Casio FZ-1 sampling keyboard free to a good home. I don't have any disks for it but if you check out the SOS link below it will help however takes this. Last time I looked there were huge archives of patches available for download too. This is a big keyboard and is very heavy - built like a tank. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/1997_articles/dec97/crosstalkdec97.html
  14. This is a relatively new thing. I suppose we're having that 10 years on itch. I think we will mostly be playing our back catalogue this time before we chuck in some of the new material we're working on.
  15. How cheap are you talking? Look up ghetto talkbox on youtube. Actually to save you the bother
  16. I'm pretty sure Atmosphere Light and Sound have repairs department.
  17. I totally agree with ca_gere. This is the first I've heard about this particular site though, I had only heard about the power of crowd funding through watching a talk by Amanda Palmer of the Dresen Dolls on TED. It is a chance for people to get involved in projects they believe in. Also great for music lovers to be connected to music they want to hear too. I'll take a closer look at your proposals later Dave, can't properly comment on your proposal yet. I imagine this works well for established artists wanting to progress to a more ambitious release and already have a large body of work and many performance behind them.
  18. I will have a spare one in about a weeks time
  19. Definitely make a demo. I did that for a couple of my synths for sale and I think it helps demonstrate what you maybe can't in the 15 minutes someone has when they come to view. Also I want to hear a track! The Dark Energy is really good by the way... thanks. Perfect little synth.
