  2. Under the Hammer and the Noose and Monkey. The earl of sandwhich (did they move to Old Aberdeen?), I don't know if the new(ish) place on the Green will let you. Boarderline and Granite Reef will let you put up posters. I'm not sure about Musa but worth a punt? What about Kilau in Old Aberdeen? You used to have to get posters ok'd somewhere at Aberdeen Uni otherwise they got taken down, could be different now, but you could then stick them on boards in various buildings/library's and Halls of Residence. If you go into corner shop type places and ask politely about putting up posters you'd be surprised how many will say yes. I always found that it was hard to find the time to put up loads of posters on my own, it helps if you can get a team of folk on it and split it.
  3. I know there is no malice involved; if there are any celebrities checking the Aberdeen-Music celebrity death pool they are most likely about to die of narcissism. I wasn't having a go at anyone really.
  4. I would avoid "Tru Fam" just from the name.
  5. People who refer to their baby as baba.
  6. My mate's mum had some travellers staying in the field next to her house. I don't know the details of how it happened but her garden became their toilet. Pretty disgusting.
  7. I find the kind of abuse that this girl has been receiving sickening. There is no justification for it being acceptable. First thing that needs to happen is a change in the cultural attitude towards sexual abuse from left to right. There is nothing political about actual or implied rape. I would say that the UK is making progress compared with other nations; I have come across some extremely disturbing attitudes when travelling in other countries. The truth is however, that we are still nowhere near tackling this problem properly. The internet is a strange place. In one thread we've got people who are supportive of a public figure standing up against threatening and inappropriate comments from the public and the next thread down is the same people are having a "bet" on celebrities dying.
  8. It's a crazy little thing, part drum machine, part synth, sequencer. It's the synth equivalent of a boutique pedal, I'm pretty sure they only made 100 or so of the V1 model. My V2 is shipping tomorrow morning from Italy so I'm hoping to have it early enough to incorporate into the Cellar 35 gig!
  9. Just ordered one of these machines: http://www.nazzilla.com/lep-loop/#/?a=introduction Probably not everyone's cup of tea but here is an example of it in action http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JlXt30wNHg
  10. I'm also with 3. Customer service has been a bit shoddy in the past for me but I think all mobile companies are the same. If you have any problems with them just bombarde them with complaints emails. Also make threats to take it further if it's not dealt with swiftly. After I did that I've had no problems at all. Loads of minutes and 4G going to be no extra cost.
  11. Are you sure that's not just one of your facebook posts?
  12. Somewhere like cellar 35 I have a few ideas...
  13. "Feeling blessed" I don't care.

We all live in different places so some or all of us have to travel at some point so it might as well be where it's cheapest to practice with the best gear. I actually met a fellow Aberdonian there whos band did the same as us. I managed to tie in going to a cool gig the night before so double win. Good luck to the guys opening this studio space though. It's a tough crowd to please!

I was amazing actually. We had an great practice which to us is extrmely important as we don't get together that frequently. There is nothing worse than spending half of your time wrestling with the room. We were all loud enough for our own satisfaction and never once did it feel the blend in the room was skewed too much towards one insturment. Also, to get the room recording all you needed was to buy a CD or bring one with you. You could drive down and back, practice for 6 hours and still have change for a pint or two compared with the hourly rates of the places in Aberdeen. I know you get discount for booking longer sessions but it's not that much of an exaggeration.
  16. You either have to be innovative or very niche, ahead of the trend on whatever genre that is currently popular or better than all the other acts from everywhere in the world that occupy the same genre or musical space as you. I suspect that due to the small population of Aberdeen an element of competition is missing to really push folk to become the very best. Obviously heaps of practice also helps and is necessary. How many Aberdeen bands practice 5 times a week when they aren't touring or writing/recording?
  17. Looks really interesting. I'm just reading about modular synths at the moment - not the cheapest way to own a synthesisier but definitely a lot of fun. If this were a standardised format for designing a modular phone you could potentially get a lot of independent developers working on parts you could end up with a decent "underground" market, much like the Eurorack modular synth crowd. This is a good way of getting more interesting innovation driven by what people want and need rather than what a huge corporationg tells them they need. I'll probably still get an iphone next upgrade so they can store my finger print info and use it against me at some future point, framing me for a crime I didn't commit that some dude in a crime agency can see before it happens.
  18. I've had to take a break from buying new synths, it's become a bit of an obsession! I'm going to start building a modular synth next year.
  19. How did you get on with your sales? I've been there on the edge too, when the music stuff becomes less relevant than the mortgage! Hope you didn't have to ditch too much of it.
