  1. Not really Punk per-se, but Saddle Creek 50 has been embedded in my stereo recently.
  2. Jesus, a good question. I've got say Sugarhill Gang's Rapper's Delight or Jump On It, Grand Master Flashe's "White Lines (Don't Do It) or De La Soul's Three Feet High and Rising Album are all my "big dumb grin" songs and albums. "Ceremony" by New Order makes me want to just sit and watch the world contently. Dead Kennedy's "Plastic Surgey Disasters" makes me glad to be who I am, with the ability and knowlege go express disattisfaction with my surrounds or try and create something that shows it.
  3. As someone in a band using Tom's to write, you don't have to tell me twice. I'm fortunate to be in a five piece though, so it turns out pretty reasonable.
  4. And remember, The Network showed what Green Day can do when they want to open themselves up AND have fun, the two need not be mutally exclusive.
  5. Not really a rentable room, but have you tried Captain Tom's or the Foyer?
  6. They're post-awesomecore Rilo Kiley are New-Prettyfuckinggoodwave and Modest Mouse are Neverreallyheardem-hop
  7. A former Misfit too! Anyway, the way I've always understood punk is probably best described as a bizarre form of "late twentith century folk music", although by it's nature, not necessarily dated. It was about creating something from scratch, it, to me, is a mode and not a genre, although many people believe it is. Similar mindsets can be found in No Wave and even Garage, from how I understand it. The music might not be three-chord rock'n roll, but the DIY ethic is there. It seems odd (and elitist) to say that music about self expression belongs to any one political wing, so for example, so for example, a member of the far right wished to commit his incoherent paranoid ramblings to a backing track he made in his room on his apple mac and pressed and distrubuted 200 copies by himself, surely there is an element of punk to that, although I personally would be put off by his political stance. I've only heard about them, but weren't screwdriver a DIY far-right band? And wouldn't bands with extreme far right views be FORCED into self publishing because the labels wouldn't touch 'em 'cos of their views (although having heard Tobey Kieth....)
  8. For the record, I too find this personality type irritating, but I think calling it "gay" was the wrong choice of word when "camp" may have been more suitable, and probably stopped some people from getting sucked into the mighty "arguhole". From experience, I've only ever seen one gay person behave like that in real life (plenty on TV). Would you believe that the "deviants" have adapted so they can blend in with us upright Christians! ;p I haven't been watching big brother. I know who Kitten and Marco are but if I wanted to watch retards compete for attention, I'd go to Ministry, but remember big brother is cast through auditions. That big brother dude was probably chosen because he's so over the top.
  9. One of my favorite bands, although I never thought about them being punk, but I guess there is a punk aesthetic to most Saddle Creek bands. Anyway; Dead Kennedys - Plastic Surgery Disasters Desparecidos - Read Music, Speak Spanish Life Without Buildings - Any Other City The Faint - Danse Macabre (although their best song is on "Blank Wave Arcade") Atari Teenage Riot - 60 Second Wipeout ATDI- In/Casino/Out Minor Threat - Discography Sunny Day Real Estate - Diary Get Up Kids - STWHA Green Day - Nimrod
  10. Intresting. They claim that one of their aims is to get people to vote and become engaged in politics (which is always good) and to get people and to "draw their own conclusions". Those are inital aims I find very hard to argue with. Many young people really don't care about politics or voting, and many people take what NOFX and Michael Moore tell them at face value, even if I do believe they are the "good guys". I also think the following statement, is in many cases true: "Punk music has been, and still is, one of the most heavy-handed genres of music there is. Unfortunately the topics of such heavy-handed songs are almost always seeped in left wing propaganda, bumper sticker rallying calls and oversimplifications of otherwise complex topics. Unfortunately the websites established by such bands to further their political views don't offer much more by way of information and truth than the music does." See, not thinking about things and having an unswerving allegiance to any one side of the political spectrum can lead to Kitten from BB style slapability, posting heavy handed, ugly posters with George Bush with demon horns kissing Ronald McDonald or something and generally growing bored and growing up to drive an SUV. So I think encouraging people to learn and draw their own conclusions with the raw material provided to them as a starting point by bands, be it the Dead Kennedys or NOFX is a good thing. BUT, The notion of Conservative punk is pretty screwy, but who are we to impose rules on anything? If a group of youths were disatissfied with the left and wanted to write songs in favour of the right, then let 'em, although I'm pretty certain they wouldn't have me in their audience. I notice Michale Graves (ex-Misfits) is a supporter of the site. Anyway, simplified conclusion: Providing an alternative, encouraging people to think rather than just spout slogans: GOOD Being Conservatives: NOT SO GOOD
  11. From creed.com: June 4, 2004 SCOTT STAPP AND MARK TREMONTI READY NEW MATERIAL FOR FIRST POST-CREED RELEASES One of the most successful songwriting partnerships and groups in the history of the music business disbands after nearly a decade together. New York --- After nearly a decade together, Creed has decided to disband. HALLEUJAH! It's like God finally got embarrassed enough to do something about them so planted thoughts in their brain to split!
  12. metrosexual (met.roh.SEK.shoo.ul) n. An urban male with a strong aesthetic sense who spends a great deal of time and money on his appearance and lifestyle. metrosexuality n. That, or somebody who screws buildings.
  13. I've went back and read more than the first couple of pages of the thread. I'm certainly not qualified to substantuate any scientific claims made here, but those claims have certainly been made by people who are, whoever, I'm seeing a lot of repetition of people claiming to hate "The gays that flaunt it like Graham Norton". This got me thinking. a) You're dislike of a personality trait is about as important as your like or dislike of carrot and corriander soup. Please don't confuse your opinion with a fact. b) A media icon playing up to an image is not a good or reliable sample type. Fact is, you'd be hard pressed to tell when someone is actully "gay", being "camp" is an entirely diffrent matter. c) Is there such a thing as a gay subculture? I'm not suggesting homosexuality is a subculture in the slightest, yet isn't it possible that subcultures exist in the gay scene? If so, then surely someone could, if we adhere to the stereotypes set up here, love Kylie Minouge, bleach their hair and drink fuzzy navels in their youth to establish their place before growing out of it?
  14. Try Masamune for starters, they have some pretty Sonic Youthy and Trail of Deady moments and are pretty damn good in their own right.
