  1. Hudon, 'fuck you saying about Strats? Lookin to replace your bassist too eh?!?!
  2. Wish i'd caught more of Vessels, they seemed like my cuppa. ASIWYFA were fucking awesome, mind you i was only really there to see them, tight as bits. Oceansize bored the living christ out of me, played what felt like about 7 hours of indistinguishable droany mush, with occasional highlights in tight heavy parts (i should add- not coz "i like metal so i only liked the heavy bits hur hur", but to the uninitiated listener there was no definition between any of the instruments unless the distortion was on). Given that almost everyone i know told me they were the bollocks, i was pretty let down.
  3. I've vaguely familiar with them, boazy used to come back to the flat hammered and put them on and promptly fall asleep in the middle of the floor, muttering about how they were the greatest thing ever. They were pretty cool but a bit slow for me from what i remember, i might yet give them another chance! Anyway, ace, cheers dudes, all awesome advice. Having gotten pretty into it now, i've noticed where the problem is. Alternating is no bother on one string but like someone pointed out, it's string changing thats the problem, i'm having bother not always leading with the index finger when going up the strings, and coming down i'll always use the finger i used to play the last note on the string before, and 'fall' onto the next note. this seems to be where the crappy rhythms come from, as falling into a note isn't quite as precise as hitting it when it's meant to be hit. So i'm gonna bite the bullet and pretty much try starting from scratch with scales and blues on a metronome, as everything i can already play is pretty much in bad technique, im sure when i get the alternating fingers locked into my playing it'll all be a lot easier and better. Oh and i noticed the other day also, the whole thumb pickup thing must be from guitar playing, I've tried floating my hand and resting it on a lower string and within about 2 seconds my hand just moves naturally back to the pickup. Not to say there's anything good about my guitar technique, but i've always like pushed my wrist into the instrument for picking or rested my arm on the curved part of the body (on a strat) for strumming, so i suppose it makes sense that i'm immediately looking for a place to rest or base my arm/hand. I'll persevere with the floating, but i think that may be a bigger mountain to climb, as far from an all new way to play, that's more like 12 years of bad habit to break. Cheers again for all the advice, you are kings amongst men
  4. ace cheers guys! the callus on my index finger is coming along nicely already, I mean one of the first things i (foolishly) did was learn Phantom of the Opera ala Harris with fingers, and while it's ok and up to speed now, theres no technique whatsoever, the right hand is a bit of a clusterfuck hitting notes in no order and thus the rhythm isn't particularly solid. Did wonders for strengthening up my left hand mind you. But yeah, Black - Garage Inc Newstead stuff might be a good place to start for getting my rhythms in order, good call! cheers min! Also i'm finding im getting hella cramp in my thumb, i figure it's from leaning too heavily on the pickup when stretching over to the higher strings, tho i notice some people root their thumb on the pickup and play from there, some move the thumb up to the string below the one being played and some just kinda float. Is there a right way to doing this or is it just what feels comfortable? At the moment it's killer but i'm sure with practice it may pass. Don't wanna end up getting comfortable with a bad technique mind!
  5. Hey y'all, Having played guitar for many years and bass (poorly) for about 3, i've recently been trying to rid myself of the pick. Just wondering if anyone has any good advice on exercises for tightening up my right hand technique (all wanking euphemisms can be left at the door, cheers). Naturally coming from a metal background I immediately looked up 'finger' players I'm familiar with like Steve Harris and John Myung and pretty much scared the shit out of myself. for exampleI know there are heaps of lessons out there, but if theres anything people recommend that won't break my spirits (and fingers) from the word go, it would be greatly appreciated! Cheers!
  6. Do you frequent Digg perchance? Not that it's a bad thing if you do, mind!
  7. she's a beast, though i did think for a split second that was a mirrored scratchplate and nearly did something rather reckless, but alas having just bought a new computer and the impending doom of christmas i really dont have the cash for it, i hope you find a good home for it tho man!
  8. did you do the HNC last year? If so you were in my class! Now isn't that exciting!
  9. And despite what you may read online, when my blu-ray bricked, i found the Sony customer support really helpful, and although it may take weeks to get your console fixed, they offered a replacement one for the time it took to fix (basically the delivery guy drops off a new console, picks up yours and when its fixed they make the swap back) they even managed to get me an "old-school" 60Gb one during the swap just like mine. Unlucky tho man, it seems a pretty rare occurrence.

    I Pods

A Nano would probably be what your after tbh, if it's only a thousand or so tracks you're going to be keeping on it i would suggest a shuffle as you can get a 2Gb for less than 50, but personally the fact theres no screen put me off somewhat. you can get an 8Gb nano (the smallest capacity - roughly 2000 tracks) for just over 100 new, but if you have a look about you might be able to find one of the slightly older 4th Generation ones for cheaper, im sure with the new 5th Gen ones just come out a few weeks ago there should be retailers shifting them for cheap. The only major difference between 4G and 5G is the video camera they strapped on, and by the sounds of it thats not really what your needing it for!

    Football Programmes?

Reeeeeeally? i have a complete one from 1996 now i think about it... I'll have a rake, i do recall seeing an pars v dons programme somewhere in the midst, mind you, i have never been to east end park in my life so ive no idea when its from. i'll let you know!
  12. Having not listened to it all the way through properly and only heard bits from flatmates playing it my thoughts (well more obsevations) are: 1) Queen should be looking for royalty money for any sales of 'Eurasia' 2) There's a song that sounds like New Born (the riff) backwards which is quite cool and has a big metal-as-fuck (for muse anyway) outro. 3) The first single that sounds like Billy Idol isn't very good. 4) Theres one that sounds like Kylie that sounded like they were going for the 'Supermassive Black Hole' vibe again, it made me laugh. Not in a good way. 5) What I've heard doesn't really make me want to investigate any further. 6) Bellamy may of finally been completely ingested up his own rectum.

    Football Programmes?

Thats awesome cheers guys! I'll send an emaill off to D&D and see what they say! I'll stick a list up if you want? Is there any particular teams/things you may be looking for? Depending on what i get back from D&D i may be looking to keep the home ones as a set but to be honest if theres any you really need for your collection, i'd be happy to help! Like i say, i just want them to go to people who would have use for them!
  14. Does anyone know of a good place to sell football programmes? I've found an alarming amount of them in my old room and figure someone out there must have a use for them? I did google search but there seems to be literally hundreds of sites buying and selling, just wondering if anyone might of had experience with any sites before or suggest a good place to start? Or, i guess ebay is always an option? I'm not hugely bothered about money for them, but i'd be a bit pissed if they ended up being used as hamster bedding! I figured recent ones will be less 'in demand' than say pre war ones, but i do have like two nearly complete seasons worth - one being a cup winning season, including some away matches and the cup final (which i guess i could part with). So someone might want them? Oh and before anyone asks, they're all Killie Programmes Anyone have any recommendations? that is, helpful recommendations, not, 'have a bonfire' or 'use as shit-wipe' Cheers.
  15. place a small selection of cooked meats under a box, propped up at one side by a stick attached to a string, hide out of sight holding the other end of the string and wait.
  16. Was it one of these? arran sent the group one as a joke... i honestly did not expect them to blow it up to a full page and publish it... pretty funking funny though.
  17. So they're going to pump obscene amounts of money into being city of culture, then what are all these visitors going to do when they get here? Struggle to find anywhere to stay during the week? Not go on the 'hop-on/hop-off bus' as it's been canned (although the signs are still up for it, cue angry visitors waiting for hours for a non-existent bus service)? Not have any means of finding things to do or places to visit (besides the tourist info) as the council has stopped producing pretty much all literature about the city - self walk guides, what's on etc. Most of the attractions out width the city are near enough inaccessible without a car unless, and the ones you can get to involve overpriced bus journeys which generally ditch you about a mile from anything worth seeing. If my impromptu summer working for Visit Scotland has taught me anything its that catering for visitors is pretty much right at the bottom of Aberdeen City/Shire Councils to-do list. Sure theres more important things, but its an area that really needs a wee bit of attention before anyone starts thinking about 'City of Culture'.
  18. Moshulu/Warehouse is owned by MAMA Group, which is the big corporation which owns Barfly/Mean Fiddler/Supervision Management (manages bands like Franz) etc etc. Moshulu started as a Barfly but was moved to the Mean Fiddler group of venues, as it was alot bigger than the other barflys. As far as i understand it will be soon operating as a joint venture between MAMA and HMV like the HMV Apollo in London and the HMV PictureHouse in Edinburgh, not MF or Barfly. Although the fact that I was an employee/night manager there for almost 5 years through all the shake up and still don't really know exactly who runs the venue sums up working for the place beautifully. Anyway yeah hope that clears up the ownership question a little. Oh.. and I think they're changing the name as if you ask anyone in these parts about Moshulu you'll get stories of sticky carpets, leaky toilets and "miserable goffs", i'd imagine they'd be trying to loose that image.
  19. that is an beautiful bass! alas having just had to replace my laptop, there are no funds, (wish i'd seen this before i dropped my ipod thru the screen of my old one!) absolutely completely gutted...
  20. Any PS3 users played it yet? trying to decide on whether to pick up this or Infamous... hmmmm maybe just get ghostbusters and wait for both to hit the bargin bin...
  21. This reminds me, Monster Marnoch gave me their album on Friday, I may go and investigate!
  22. When my flatmate and I went halfs on a Dual Recto many years ago we had a similar problem, turns out we were so excited about plugging it in and pretending we were in Metallica we didn't read the note that came with it instructing to take off the plastic protectors on the tubes before turning it on. They melted to the tubes and when it wasn't popping fuses it sounded like gash, leaving us with an expensive replacement job. Not to say you'd make a rookie mistake like this, but the point I'm trying to make is ensure everything's well ventilated, overheating tubes will make fuses pop too
  23. No, no, just to forgot to say the Moshulu myspace is fucked, Jamesy gave the password to some little PR monkey who changed it and buggered off, so you're unlikely to see any bulletins about Moshulu stuff until Myspace customer support stop being difficult and let us reset our details.
  24. Not getting involved, just to say, 2 of the publications mentioned (The Skinny and The Fly) are free. I know we have them in the Bassment, i'm sure you can pick them up elsewhere too. The Fly especially has heaps of gig listings, not just for Moshulu, if you can bear flicking past a few of pages of indie bands, it's worth it and won't cost you a bean. Also just to go back to what someone else said, the Moshulu website is operated by head office, not the venue directly. As far as i know trying to get it updated is about as futile an effort as getting involved in one of these on-line shit flinging contests. The Facebook however is updated by staff on-site on a regular basis.
