Sorry, but there are some glaring inaccuracies in this thread... Valve amps rated the same as transistor amps WILL put out more power when overdriven. This is becauce it is undesirable to overdrive the power section of a transistor amp, and so the amp as a whole is not designed to perform this function, and is limited by the headroom available on the power section. Valve amps, on the other hand, WILL overdrive the power section and it is desirable to do so, both types of amp are rated at a level where they clip(this is oversimplification of course, but adequate for this thread). Although, flash, as you do point out you will need 10x the power to get a given amp/speaker combination twice as loud, which is why the difference isn't more obvious. However, a 10x increase in power, is a 10dB difference, which in theory has 10x more volume. What you're thinking of, is that a 10dB difference in volume will be roughly equal to a percieved doubling in loudness. It'll only take you 5 mins on google to confirm this btw. Also, speakers do NOT work like lightbulbs. You CAN power a 50w speaker with 1500w and not blow it up however. You can even do it safely if you have a limiter. The factor which will decide how much power is being sent to the speaker is the intensity of the input signal. If you put a relatively small signal into a 1500w power amp input, you could probably drive a 50w speaker all day, no sweat! Start putting a real hot signal through that speaker though and you'll soon be phoning up CLS for a recone! Also relevent here, is the accuracy of the output specs of the amp. I'm sure you know, that a Behringer/Phonic 1500w isn't equal to a QSC or Crown 1500w rating.

Given Behringers terrible reputation for reliability, I'd probably be more interested in buying one of their mixers second hand if the seller was honest and assured me that their particular mixer didn't have any bugs or issues. Buying new, theres half a chance you'll get a doorstop with that company

The Normalise function should simply analyse all the tracks and apply a fixed gain increase/reduction to each track so that theres (theoretically) little discrepency of volume between the tracks. I've never had any problems with it clipping, and it should not affect the dynamics of the tracks because it should not behave variably in the same way that compressors and limiters do.

I wasn't aware that they made any 'improvements' to the 5150? As far as I understand they just had to change the name because evh owns the 5150 trademark? Of course theres always the possibility I'm entirely wrong

A busted valve CAN trip a fuse whilst there is nothing else wrong with the amp. A certain person I know had the same problem, fuses kept blowing soon as they were replaced, he didn't even change all the valves just took some of his old ones and moved them around a bit, the amp has worked fine for a year since.

Its better than a line out from an amp, but amp line outs normally suck badly. Lack of a presence control is terribly limiting, the speaker emulations the weakest part. Overall, the POD 2 isn't fantastic or particularly realistic sounding, but its a nice toy, decent for recording if your not serious and you can get loads of sustain from the thing. Sounds best through a power amp with presence control and a real speaker cab.

Well...I aint a drummer but I've been very impressed with the works of Neil Peart, Mike Portnoy and Niko McBrain... ...sometimes I'll hear something I really like by Randy Castillo, Brian Downey, Ed Warby or someone like that and it'll stick in my head for days, I like the little touches that stand out and make a song. However every time I go see a real good jazz band I'm totally blown away by the drumming.

I'm not saying its not true...I've just never experienced this sustain myself. I thought it may have only applied when the volumes blasting out your amp and resonating through the body. At low volumes at least, I dont really notice any lack of sustain compared to hardtails...unless its a really minute difference. Maybe I just havn't tried a hardtail thats well enough setup...I once tried an Ibanez S470 in Bruce Millers with that 'ZR' trem which locks in the middle, man that thing sustained forever...

Well...I give up on the scene points system then! It doesn't work as clearly as it should and theres no obvious FAQ on how to use it. The mods have let us down on this one. Anyway' date=' the Edge Pro II is Ibanez' new budget floating trem, I believe it replaces the 'lo-trsII' the same way the 'Edge Pro' replaced the 'Lo Pro' and 'Edge' trems. The Trem arm doesn't really have any machanism to stick in the bridge, if you tip the guitar it falls out Ok its not QUITE that bad but you get the idea. I'm pretty sure its because the cheapo floyds are nowhere near as stable as the good ones.

You played a crap guitar with a floyd, cor, no wonder all floyd rose tremelos are a waste of money. Thing is they're precision pieces of equipment, for a guitar to perform and stay in tune as well as my floyd equipped guitar it has to be well maintained. Which isn't really a problem for me, I think guitars should be well maintained anyway, and having a floyd I'm more likely to fix it if anythings slightly out. As a result my axe always feels good. I'll reiterate this, a floating trem has to be a good piece of engineering, it needs to maintain a constant counterbalance of tension from 6 differently tensioned pieces of metal pulling the other way. If you get a cheapo trem on a cheapo guitar (I mean, like, less than 400 at least), yeah its going to be crap. Although my Ibanez Edge trem is great the Ibanez 'Edge Pro II' isn't nearly as good. In the same way, the trem you'll get on a fender showmaster will be utter poops compared to an original floyd. Whether you like them or not, is a matter of you and your taste in music and playing style.
