  1. yeah, last night was much better overall. Radio Lucifer came across tighter and, as you say, more confident - what a show! Neil Leyton and co were incredible, much better than in Aberdeen (and they weren't too bad there). I actually thought they benefitted from cutting the acoustic set in the middle down a bit. I was totally transfixed by them, one of the best performances i've seen, and especially good for being in such an intimate venue. I got hold of the 'my new soul' EP last night, and it sounds great. It was shame the Cherrykicks had to rush their set a bit, but they brought the rock nonetheless - if only I'd had the money for a tee-shirt! Though maybe not one as gay as jon's... Well, I have to say i really enjoyed that whole experience, great bands, great fun, lovely people. Hopefully we can all get together again soon. I'm just depressed i have to go and work in tesco's now
  2. aye, once again big thanks to chris for busting his balls promoting the gig, and to Alex as well. The bands were great, and brilliant people, and i'm glad everyone seemed to enjoy it. I have to say I enjoyed the other bands' sets a good deal more than ours - we'll be much better in glasgow! Always a pleasure to come up to aberdeen though. I may have been photographed at the end of the evening planting slurpy kisses on brian fudge's head. Deary me.... Chris - if we're gonna do this moorings thing in august, maybe we could sort out a return leg in edinburgh?
  3. No, we've never played with Contra before, but I liked the song 'Red Beret' on that fudge CD. punk-tastic! We played with stacatto set at the same fudge gig as element 106, they were really good. nice way to unwind after being assaulted with black metal
  4. Yeah, my brother told me he had it the other day - I hadn't seen a single review or advert. Scandalous!
  5. unless they pull some kind of Phil Collins concorde experience, of course. I'd love to see the Violent Femmes, though to be honest i only rate the first record. Though I do rate that rather highly. I can't believe the Presidents have reformed and nobody told me! The rest of those bands are sub-standard NME fodder though.
  6. Well, *shamelessly plugs own band* you might like deadenstereo We're veering more towards the radiohead (aaargh!), idlewild, pixies side of things, rather than the more experimental stuff.. we're maybe a bit more rock than those bands though. Oh yeah, and we're based in Edinburgh. But we play in Aberdeen a lot Next Thursday for instance. www.deadenstereo.co.uk has MP3s and stuff. One Up has our split single with Stigma. xxx *edit* here's a review of said single from killthenoise.net 'stigma / deadenstereo - now (split) this single features a track each from these 2 upcoming scottish bands. first off are stigma, with 'nothing left', a casual rock track with a touch of grunge spirit. it's a pretty pleasant and easy listen, if nothing that spectacular. this band have only been around for about a year, and it's hard to make any reliable judgement from this one modest song, so i'll leave it simply as a "watch this space". deadenstereo are a little more of a complex case, going for a more adventurous and subtle sound on their song 'a perfect second'. they definitely steal the show as far as this single is concerned. this mellow and moody rock track progresses to an intense finish - fans of radiohead take heed - with fitting tender melancholic vocals throughout. the dark atmosphere created by the song is in tune with the lyrics, which are centered around the story of a man falling in love with his own (accidental) killer. very impressive - keep an eye out for these guys. matt b' what a nice man. so there you go, we sound like radiohead.
  7. Violent Femmes/David bowie/Jeff Buckley? I may be ready to fall in love with this man.
  8. I remember Slo Burn.. they released an EP, and 'Pilot the Dune' was the only good song on it really... but it was one hell of a song! I went to see Unida in Glasgow - they were OK, but to be honest the music was a bit hard rock by numbers - was worth it just to see Garcia in action though. What a voice. My brother got an EP by his new outfit, Hermano, but again he just seems to be trading on the old Kyuss thing, not doing anything new... I saw Clutch in Glasgow, can't remember who they played with though. In fact, I've a feeling that was with Nebula. Or maybe Orange Goblin? I've seen all those bands at one point anyway. Clutch were just the heaviest, tightest band I've ever seen, totally mighty. I like this thread! Johnny - weird that you mentioned Cowie there, I could've sworn I saw him yesterday in the Meadows in Edinburgh...
  9. the very begining of that EP is mighty: 'so hands up... WHO WANTS TO ROCK!' I think I prefer Elephant Riders though. They have a new album just out apparently, though i haven't seen it anywhere as yet (exams!)
  10. Craig, judging by your harrowing linguistic exploits, I can only assume you've been taking this whole stoner rock thing a little seriously. I've been meaning to tell you to check out Acrimony for ages - go fetch! You heard any Clutch yet? Also, Fu Manchu are quite good, although I find they get a little repetitive. Same goes for Nebula, who are fantastic live. Anyone ever experienced Electric Wizard? I'd say you have to be fairly committed to losing touch with reality to get into them....
  11. There was an immense Welsh stoner band a few years ago caled Acrimony, i think they just released one album and an EP, well worth checking out if you can find them. apart from that: Kyuss are one of my favourite bands ever. Monster Magnet's early stuff, before they went stadium rock, is brilliant. 'Dopes to infinity' might be my favourite. Clutch and Fatso Jetson are mighty. I'm not so keen on the whole slew of generic stoner rock bands that followed aftre Kyuss, and a lot of the British stoner stuff sounds too retro (Cathedral and those kind of bands). Sleep were an experience, but I can't say i rate high on fire, they're a little dull.
  12. where did you read that le reno amps are 'math rock'?
  13. God says 'no' to Edinburgh - not a single band from the glorious capital in that list. Maybe not a bad thing But what's with all the made up bands from Aberdeen? AKA The Fox? Millenium Child? Oh well, well done to all the lucky people, and all the usual platitudes...
  14. did anyone see the jonathan ross interview? deawy me.
  15. hello, just wondering what the latest on this is? i noticed in Music News Scotland that it asked for two demos to be submitted, but having read your post we only sent one - does this mean we're disqualified
  16. yeah, The Outkast are mighty... I'm always wary of people who write off entire genres like that. However,I do pretty much hate skate punk music. I also despise Lostprophets, and all the usual fake rock suspects (Puddle of Mudd, Nickleback etc.) Plus, I can't stand all these old crooner guys like Sinatra, Dean Martin and so on.. I just can't stand their voices! They always sound like they're just singing one bum note the whole time (I know this isn't techinically true, I guess it just doesn't appeal to me.) The band I hated most in the entire history of my musical listening would have to be Cast. They still make me wince all these years on.
  17. And every night i shut my eyes So i don't have to see the light Shining so bright, I dream about a cloudy sky, about a cloudy sky... *hunterbird takes flight, as thread tails off into pointlessness...*
  18. you're both fired. ian - Stigma are a grungey rock band, and a rather good one at that. Their song on the single, however, is more of a considered pop type affair. Certain people have suggested that certain sections of the song are somewhat reminiscent of 'Summer of '69' by Brian Adams. I'm yet to determine whether this is a bad thing or not.
  19. indeed it is. personally i like to think of us as post-grind splat core. But then I'm funny like that. Craig's new guitar is pink, but it stays in tune so we like it.
  20. now THAT would be a first
  21. cheers once again to everyone who came - was the best gig i've played/ watched in a long time Audiences, promoters and the general gig experience are SO much better in aberdeen than in the central belt, believe me. We'll be back soon... In other news, we met the drummer from Orwell (Gordon?) last night in the Citrus Club in edinburgh - what a gent! later
  22. yo, just for bobyn and any edinburgh peeps, the CD is now in Avalanche records (student branch) in Edinburgh, priced a mere 1.99. Glad you enjoyed the gig - next time come and say hello!
