  1. ditto thought he was over the worst of his cancer problems so this came as a total shock, Beastie Boys are awesome RIP
  2. not completely crazy though since Aberdeen lost at home to Hibernian!
  3. Whilst on holiday last week I went back to my Cambridge save. First season was pipped to the title by those thieving scouse gits from Liverpool who also for good measure dumped me out the champions league in the 2nd knockout round. It was little consolation I beat them in the league right near the end of the season. Mind you won the league cup, FA Cup and community shield. Next season bought a few tasty players and sitting 2nd in the league behind Man City, out the league cup on pens to Championship side Sheffield United and have qualified from my champions league group with a game to spare. Had a particularly impressive result away at Valencia where I gubbed them 5-1!
  4. nice wee spat between the managers midway through the second half! United were pretty poor throughout and deserved to lose.
  5. so glad City scored the opener, think Sir Purple Face has got his tactics wrong so far apart from a bright opening couple of mins United have defended far too deeply and City got more confident as the half went on, they were stroking the ball around neatly with some impressive build up play and the final ball letting them down. Goal was a soft one to concede mind but City deserve to be ahead so far. A cagey affair as you'd expect but compelling nonetheless. I actually think Woy for England is a good appointment even if a little safe but you look at his record in general and his experience in the game and he has actually won quite a number of trophies in his career, I'd say on paper he is a better candidate than 'Arry. However I'd have preferred to see the pasty face tax dodger in charge, I like 'Arry but would never buy a second hand car off him. I think the main stumbling block for Woy could be dealing with the England prima donnas whereas 'Arry would have just clipped them round the ear and given them detention!
  6. If they do make the promised land why on earth would any of the squad want to leave, in fact it would open the door to getting in some real quality next season. That's the difficult bit though sustaining such a high league position. Actually nice to see a player come down from the SPL and score goals in the EPL for a change, Moyes made some shrewd signings and did his business well in the transfer window. Someone told me Swansea might be in the Europa League next season cos of that fair play award thingy which Fulham got this season.
  7. Had a bit of FM fun this morning, an experiment to see just what it takes to get sacked. So I took the Man U job and put my fave team down as city, then proceeded to set up my formation playing the whole team as far up front as possible... the results were this... Man City (Community Shield) L 9-2 Bolton (a) L 8-1 Arsenal (h) L 7-0 Everton (a) L 12-0 Chelsea (h) D 2-2 Leverkausen (h) L 14-1 Still not been so for a bit of fun I decided to play a couple of matches with players from the under 18's squad only apart from Valancia who I'd been rowing with and stuck him in the under 18's out of spite, I also decided to start putting an outfield player in goal... Aston Villa (a) L 25-0 West Brom (h) L 28-1 (League Cup Third Round) Still not sacked after that! Went back to the first team squad... Newcastle (h) D 1-1 Lille (a) L 13-0 Stoke (a) L 12-0 Finally was given the push!!! I also fined the players for poor performances at every given opportunity and fell out with just about all the big name prima donnas. I gave ridiculous contracts to players and was a million over wage budget. And I signed a 35 year old from some New Zealand team for my whole transfer budget... 24 million ha ha. I do need to get out more but it brightened up a dull Sunday!
  8. Newcastle will win the Champions League next season!
  9. Good lord any other gaffer apart from king kenneth would have been fired by now, I reckon Cambridge could go there and get a result. Was pleased Woy went and turfed them over, they did indeed treat him like shite. Sounded an incredible match at Old Trafford today, good on Everton. The Talksport commentary team were saying how United deffo had the three points sewn up when they were 3-1 up. Bloody amateurs! I agree I think City will still bottle it but glad that the match has turned out to be the title deciding spectacular we all wanted!
  10. getting bloody better apparently whether he makes a full recovery remains to be seen but when I heard the news I felt nothing but utter disappointment lol
  11. So I tottered off down to the home of toilet football - The Abbey Stadium - for an afternoon's 'entertainment' where I was convinced my team would be utterly pillaged and completely stuffed. Fleetwood have not been beaten in 30 BSP games, they have bought the league well their ambitious chairman has. Ok so the cynics would argue that they had nothing to play for but neither had we and surely they would want to keep this run going and haul the record BSP points tally set by similar big spending money side Crawley Town last season. Bear in mind Cambridge had 8 first team players injured and 2 on the pitch were carrying knocks. We raped them from start to finish bar 20 mins at the start of the second half but even then our keeper wasn't forced into making a save. 2-0 flattered them we should have scored half a dozen. Also pleasing 7 of the starting line up were from our own youth academy. A good way to finish our home campaign, just so lovely to experience those rare moments when you feel really bloody good about the game!
  12. As usual I nicked a tactic, a Barcelona one for a laugh, has done the trick but yeah I am looking forward to seeing how far I can take the amateurs!!!
  13. Ah champions elect Fleetwood Town arrive at the Abbey Stadium to play a depleted Cambridge United, they've only lost three games all season and they were all early in the season. They are being bank rolled, fucks sake they turned down million pound bids for Jamie Vardy from three championship clubs in the transfer window! Oh well will probably see our patchwork team get proper cunted but you never know they might have been on the sherry all week since winning the title.
  14. promotion at the first attempt via the play offs! Derek McFrankland has arrived in Scottish football!
  15. maybe but had a couple poached in the transfer window!
  16. and I don't I bloody know they get poached all the time! I've always admired Queen's Park for sticking to their guns, just secured a play off spot in my first season in charge with 6 games to spare!
  17. I'm sure I will be off as soon as the first offer of paid employment comes in lol! On the other hand be interesting to see just how far I can take them.... not very far probably as you lose any half decent players. I did get four players on loan from my other parent club Aberdeen, all youngsters of course but tied to a 2 year loan deal with no recall clause!!!!
  18. just listening to the new Spiritualized album which inevitably means I will digging into their back catalogue for some Jason Pierce godliness!
  19. that's what I love about FM, taking a small club to world domination even better when you support a small shit irrelevant eternally underachieving tinpot useless team in real life and you go rip up the premier league and champions league! Liking this Queen's Park game, third in the league and despite getting knocked out the league cup gotta say most impressed to make it to the quarters and winning at Ibrox - probably my best ever result on FM! Even getting touted for such top Scottish jobs as erm Cowdenbeath
  20. Let's face it Chelsea were lucky not to concede last night but fair play to them for some frantic last ditch defending and a bit of luck which every team needs now and then. You just cannot see them holding out for 90 mins at a packed nou camp with a probably biased referee but stranger things have happened in football. Much as I hate most the Chelsea superstars, would still like to see them go through and I like Di Matteo, always smiling! Who knows if they can frustrate Barca then maybe could hold out for a 0-0 but an early goal and they might self-combust! But with the likes of Drogba on the pitch they might just nick a goal on the break which would make things very interesting, deffo set up nicely.
  21. thought Chelsea might sneak a cheeky a win last night but they'll get murdered in the nou camp I reckon!
  22. I think another problem is the modern age, these days every single issue is scrutinized, talk sport will bang on about it for days after the event, we have so many avenues to vent our spleen. Plus at the big games there's hundreds of cameras in the ground. In the old days we would fuck off down the pub, have a moan and then get on with our lives and matches were nowhere near the tv! But just recently refereeing decisions seem to becoming abysmal. Maybe they cannot handle the pace and rigour of the modern game? Even at my toilet level of football I follow you see them week in week out. A York player was sent off for a professional foul last night and everyone agreed it looked a clear 50/50 ball (of course us fans know so much more about football than anyone supposed professional lol) . Didn't do them any harm though they still dicked us 1-0, in fact they came out second half like a team possessed, that decision probably wound them up!
  23. totally spot on, heard a good point on talksport today - what if one team gets a goal line decision over ruled then the other team gets a blatant offside goal awarded. I think FIFA's reluctance is that in football being such a fast paced game with so many decisions to be made, once you start bringing in goal line technology you are effectively opening a massive can of worms. Ok so they have the replay thing in other sports but who really gives a shit about the likes of cricket and rugby save a select few? No other sport comes close to ruling people's lives like footy does!
  24. What is going on in footy at the moment, there doesn't seem to be a weekend of games without heaps of controversial officials decisions, I don't ever remember it being as bad as what it is at the moment. The FA are umming and aahing on the goal line technology issue but what is wrong with TV replays? Fourth official has a peek then makes the decision on behalf of the ref... thing is though where do you draw the line? Eternal whingers such as Wenger, Fergie and Lennon would be bemoaning every single decision going. You can just imagine them flapping their arms about at any given opportunity. But something needs to be done. Lennon is a cock and that's coming from a don't give a shit about the old firm humble Cambridge United supporter, I know a cock when I see one, the man is hell bent on moaning about everything. Shut the fuck up you annoying little man. Season almost over for me, just 2 home games left as our season finished end of the month. Just put in my application for a season ticket for next season, bring it on reckon we might do alright. Had we not had a serious post christmas blip the play offs would be a reality not a distant (very distant) hope. Never mind should be a good game against York tonight, we usually have cracking matches against them... probably be a boring 0-0 now I typed that!
