  1. no!!! well not too far from the play offs last season, dodgy run after xmas, got a decent squad but one we got a few injuries we were buggered as have to rely on youth but those lads will have more experience this season. There always seems to be a team bankrolled - Crawley in 2010/11, Fleetwood this season just gone and now Forest Green bloody Rovers! Very tough league to get out of with just 2 promotion places and a heap of former league teams as well!
  2. Torres moaning about being on the bench I see, silly little man, just shut up and get on with yer football, despite your massive overinflated price tag you have no divine right to start any game. He should just get his down and not complain.
  3. the new season thread is usually started after champs league final, euros needs it own thread methinks, sure it and the world cup usually does. Cambridge made a couple of signings already and both good ones, a few players been shown the door, our manager likes to get his business done early. Hopefully we can build on a promising season. So glad Luton didn't go up, congratulations to York for finally making the promised land after 8 years of tinpot hell. This means along with Kidderminster who were relegated with us in 2005 we are joint second longest serving team in this most tinpot of leagues....
  4. and Al Megrahi, so double whammy, can we have a points update please?
  5. All over for the Gibb, me joker as well, points on the board at last! http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2012/may/21/robin-gibb-pioneer-disco-dies?newsfeed=true
  6. Drogba is nae bad for a pensioner!
  7. Grant Holt made me chuckle, has a good first season in the Prem League, touted for a possible Engerland call up and scores some goals now thinks he's above Norwich and sticks in a transfer request, maybe his agent is working here... 'you could get more money at Stoke or Fulham you know'... Lolpool are so hilarious. A shortlist of 12? Fucks sake that is ridiculous. Adrian Durham was slating Rodgers for turning the circus of an interview down but I think Rodgers has done the right thing - he may as well continue to ply his trade at Swansea where even if they got relegated next season he would still have a job. At Lolpool if things don't go how the owners view it he'll be sacked before the January transfer window. oh well Champs league final tonight, don't care who wins hope its a good game!
  8. the Lolpool job is becoming a poisoned chalice, maybe they should go for a mad appointment such as Ian Holloway or Big Sam.
  9. funny thing is Newcastle are too bigger club for him now! go to Stoke, Fulham, Everton etc and be last or last but one game on MOTD unless you are playing one of the big teams!
  10. that is just arrogance, clubs are going to wary of taking a punt on him given his recent lack of games, prone to injury and age, he might have to take what he's given and shut up... thing is though had he gone to Stoke or someone 2 years ago he may well have been able to force himself back into the England set up but on the other hand he still gets bloody injured all the time!
  11. Owen made a mistake going to Man Utd, he should have accepted a mid table side who might get in the Europe League where he could play regular football would be better than warming the bench and starting Carling Cup ties at Man U...
  12. You should try supporting Cambridge... having said that last season was a deffo improvement on the previous two... As for Kenneth of Dalglish, well there is two ways of looking at it. He won a cup albeit a shit one no-one gives much of a toss about and got to the final of another people give a bit more of a shit about. He got them back into the Europe albeit the Europa League that a lot of folk don't give that much of a shit about. On the other hand they were woefully short of the promised land of the champions league and were utterly shit at Anfield for the majority of the season. He got away with a heck of a lot because of who is mind. He had 18 months whereas Woy had just over 6. So Man Utd releasing Michael Owen, surely worth a punt for mid table Prem League fodder but on a deal based on playing since everytime he sees a blade a grass he seems to get injured. I'm thinking Stoke maybe upfront with Crouch.
  13. 'I Feel Love' what a classic, didn't have the bint though, still null points
  14. A little disrespectful to Ebbsfleet I think Unrelated but I got tickets for a double header in the Olympic footy at Coventry's ground - Mexico v Gabon followed by Switzerland v South Korea. Pissed off Hernandez is not going to feature for Mexico though - thanks sir purple face! Unbelievable Woy has picked four lolpool players for the squad, the inclusion of Dowling is particularly strange...
  15. problem with Crouch is he only tends to score against shit teams and there are few if any shit teams in the Euros... would still have taken him though. I could watch that goal against City this season all day... might Grant Holt have been worth a punt? no international experience and plucked out the lower leagues but by jove he banged them in this season for Norwich... I think it's all irrelevant anyway since England will do shit as always... having said that this is the first time I can ever remember little if any expectation on England in a major tournament so it might work in their favour. But you can bet your bottom dollar should they go and beat France the tabloids will just heap pressure on the squad and manager. I too hope Martinez doesn't go to that poison chalice of managing lolpool but he surely will be poached by a bigger club at some point.
  16. Really chuffed for John Ruddy getting the call up since he played his first full season at Cambridge as a 17 year old in our glorious relegations season from the football league in 2004/05. Nice to see one of our own doing well. Should have gone with 5 strikers though Walcott can play up front can he not if need be? Would have included Crouch over Defoe and also think Holt deserved a call up even though he's knocking on a bit and is uncapped. Downing??? Fucks sake I nearly pished myself at his inclusion!!! No surprises with ex King Kenny, I mean they have been woeful in the league considering what he's spent. Early favourites for the gig apparently are Robert Martinez and Rafa Benitez... He probably should have been given another season, there is more proof in the pudding that the Carling Cup really does mean bugger all!
  17. Sure am the real football supporter in Cambridge supports Cambridge City or Histon
  18. Just seen a review for the forthcoming Public Image Limited and it's a good un so looking forward to my copy arriving in a couple of weeks time. In the meantime I have been listening to The Smiths a lot lately, god lord they still thrill me to the bone almost 30 years on!
  19. it's the same with all clubs though, I mean I remember going to Stamford Bridge in the late 80's when they were in the second division and there was barely more than 10,000 there and they were top of the league.
  20. I'm suffering the equivalent of second season syndrome or the Crucible Curse.... I blame the fucking Europa League!
  21. A team which is doing well is always going to attract glory hunters so it's no surprise people are jumping on the City bandwagon although they have always had pretty good support even when in League One. My club have won two things in my lifetime - what is now league 2 and league 1! And the BSP next season of course
  22. that Italian goalie he signed and played around 2 games circa 2000, no idea his name though.....
  23. I cannot wait for the no holds barred kiss n tell autobiography of Footsy
  24. I'll raise your Kleberson with Eric Djemba Djemba....
  25. hmmm that didn't go quite to plan - played almost an unrecognisable reserve side... fucks sake I even played my useless transfer listed Argentinian striker who I have not let loose near the first team all season! I couldn't even loan him out with no fee and not expecting any of his wages to be paid. He only goes and scores both goals in a comfy 2-0 win. Oh well some more match time for those fringe and reserves players in the semi against Sunderland!
