  1. I just bought April too and got a copy of Ghosts of the Great Highway from a friend. Carry Me Ohio slays me everytime. Salvador Sanchez is also superb. I really can't get enough right now. Will be hitting the Red House Painters back catalogue pretty soon methinks. Got a Phil Spector compilation too. He did have his moments, that can't be denied. Also enjoyed the Friendly Fires album. Nice mix with plenty of poppy vocals.
  2. These tunes are ace. Batman was my least favourite but it's still a cool little tune. U have to play Phil's night or at Snafu soon. Good work! Write more.
  3. Amen. EDIT: Ha! Just found out what that 8 characters nonsense was all about.
  4. Do a google search for a free WAV to MP3 converter. That'll help bring the size down a notch.
  5. Are Y Change Costume definitely in? I heard they might not manage it. I might blow a load over this one....
  6. The more complex the home recording, the more difficult it is gonna be to make good quality. If it's you, a guitar, and a nice room...well you should be just fine. But if you're thinking of drums, bass, multiple guitars, vocals, and then some, don't expect HiFi at home.
  7. When did Bikini Atoll go their seperate ways? I loved their second album and have fond memories of their last (I think) gig in the Tunnels. Was that with Archie Bronson? Anyway, great band - I'll check this out when I go home.
  8. There, there, and there. It's gonna be sweet. I bet Steve even weeps a little.
  9. I tried watching Transformers at the weekend. Wasn't happening. Think I'd rather have stuck on the cartoon movie. I hear the sequel might be more worthwhile. Planning to try and catch Milk sometime this week.
  10. Aye, I had considered the Phat Cat. Just want to hear some samples now and decide on a combo.
  11. P90's it is then! Currently looking at options from https://tvjones.com/pickups/magnatron.htm Zephyr Blues P90 Pickups: SD Pickups: Custom-Made, Hand-Wound Pickups by Dave Stephens, Stephens Design Bare Knuckle Pickups, North Devon, UK - Hand Wound Guitar Pickups Welcome to Lindy Fralin Pickups: Fralin P-90 Style Pickups - the Finest Guitar Pickups Available Today! Wizard Pickups Also found a similar thread on here which mentioned a few of the above makers as being pretty reputable which is good. Thanks for the tip Bigsby - it looks like a winner to me! I'll check out the sound clips when I get home.
  12. This is used a fair bit: Shure Green Bullet Microphone Shure Green Bullet Microphone | Dolphin Music. I've seen a couple of ace touring groups use these but most of the time people just use a vocal mic or whatever is on hand.
  13. 57's are so versatile. I used a couple of those to do a lot for home recording but you should also look at getting a nice, affordable condenser too. At home I have a Sontronics STC 2. It's nice enough (a bit thick in the lower mids) but I've done acoustic guitar and vocals with it and been fairly happy with the results. You should also check out Rode's NT 1A and 1000 large diaphragm mics. I've used those before and been really happy with the sound. I've heard (but not personally recorded with) the AKG C2000 and it seemed decent. Spend on condensers. It is not worth your money or time to dip below the 100 mark when it comes to these sorts of mics.
  14. Hey gang, I want to change the pick ups in my Epiphone Studio Dot as they are just too muddy for me (Alnico Humbucks). Any recommends? I'm quite the noob when it comes to pick ups so advice is welcome. I want something brighter and cleaner in the mids. I've read that some pick ups can be a bit hot for hollow bodies. So far the best names/possiblities which have come up are 90's, Mean 90's, and Pearly Gates. Maybe a silly question but how would single coils fit with a hollow body? An avenue worth investigating or leave well alone?
  15. I went to see Slumdog last night and it is worth the hype. Really engaging and well told. Good soundtrack too. Started re-watching The Corporation last night but was too tired to finish it. One of the few films to make me feel both scared and angry!
  16. Did you guys finish a deal on those Stapleton CD's? If not, I'd take them both for 10?
  17. Thanks for the offer Sonhenry but I was working at Snafu last night. I didn't get a chance to check any replies. Huw - If I am still in a state of decisional crisis by the time you get your amp, I'd really appreciate a shot. We'll see what turns up before then. Where did you buy it from if you are not sure what model it is?
  18. ...and do watch the roads. Worst. Driving. Ever. Scooters will be up your arse before you know it.
  19. I've been to Rome twice and loved it. Last time I went we waited to see the Sistine Chapel. I didn't really have much in the way of expectations but upon entering the hall and seeing it....well, I was blown away. What was even more impressive was seeing the School of Athens by Raphael. Remarkable. Yes, the was a long wait to see these and yes, the Chapel itslelf is hugely crowded but it was well worth it. The Coliseum is a must. The entrance fee is a little high and the audio tour is a little difficult to navigate, but again it is worth doing to help bring a bit more detail to the building. It is wonderful getting the chance to walk around it. Catch a gander of the Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II whose derogatory nickname is the Wedding Cake due to it's uber ornate stylings. The Trevi fountain is beautiful but ruined by venders selling the worst pieces of nonsense you have ever seen. Oh god, the Pantheon. That is probably top of my list. It is beautiful and one of the finest preserved achievments from the Roman world. All in all, it's one of the best cities to just wander about in. You don't know what great historic site is hiding just round the corner. We never had any problem with pickpockets but I just treat anywhere I go with same approach - Don't go anyway which has a really bad rep, don't make yourself an obvious target, and stay aware of your surroundings. I think we ate at a resturant called Ristorante Alla Rampa which is just next to the Spanish Steps. Best Tiramisu ever there along with some fresh pasta dishes which were wonderful (one starter had "hay and straw" pasta which was incredible!). I also had the best Baba Rum (sponge soaked in rum syrup) of my life in Rome. If anything else jumps to mind, I pop it up.
  20. Hmmm....The bigger picture seems to be showing that this amp may be a little too loud for my needs. There's still something very appealing about them though. I need to source one so I can try it. Sonhenry - Thanks for the info! I've heard pulling a couple of tubes makes them a little more manageable. I don't really go for a hard distortion sort of sound, more moderate overdrive and it's nothing extreme...most of the time. I get what you're saying though. I've also heard the stock speakers can sound a little muddy so it may mean some extra investment in getting those changed as well. After my intial flurry of excitement, I am starting to wonder if this is the amp for me but, as is all too obvious, I can't really know until I've heard one with my own ears.
  21. Anyone care to go down the favourite Prisoner episode road? Episode 8 - Many Happy Returns. No.6 wakes to a deserted village and now takes his opportunity to escape. Episode 16 - Once Upon a Time. Penultimate episode where No.6 goes under 'Degree Absolute'. In a word, phenomenal.
  22. I only discovered The Prisoner a couple of years ago but I still got back to it constantly. It is without doubt one of the greatest visual pieces to have ever been broadcast. I didn't realise until yesterday that he was in Braveheart. That was another awesome role for him. This is a sad way to start the day. What is Danger Man like?
