  1. That's one of the sexiest things I've seen today.
  2. Aye, I've seen them in there but never tried them out. I didn't know they did pedals until Moday night when I saw a guy using one.
  3. I've read that these blackstars are quite nice overall.
  4. Ok, ok. I probably seem a little obsessed right now but I've got a lot of time on my hands. I want a Fender tube. Decision one made. I've tried the Deville. Awesome. I've tried the 65 Deluxe Reverb reissue. Possibly even more awesome. I've found a deal on a '79 Silverface Twin. It has had the reverb tank replaced as well as the grill cloth. I know the Silverfaces aren't held up in as high a regard as the Blackfaces but are they still great amps? Would it be worth my while investing in a vintage Twin or going with a newer build (possibly the Deluxe Reverb reissue)? Anyone have any experience with a Silverface Twin? I've read they can sound a little thin - does this ring true against modern build Fenders too or just the Blackfaces? I just need some good personal experiences/opinions/info in case I want to go and try out the Silverface. I'm holding back as it will mean a fair bit of travelling. Just want to be as prepared as possible with info before heading down and trying it. I've posted this in the Fender Forum as well to see if anything crops up. I promise to stop talking about Fender tubes soon....and by soon I probably mean next year. Just wait till I actually get one....jesus.....
  5. I'm intrigued! I'll have to see if I can download it.
  6. The photoessay that leads off the above link (tonepad -- photoessay) is really really good! Very user friendly. Wouldn't mind giving that a shot some time.
  7. You are not wrong sir, but it should be a lifelong investment I reckon.
  8. I KNOW! It would make such a ridiculously intense psychological thriller, I'm on edge just thinking about it. How he goes half mad trying to maintain some sort of normality. It would make a killer film. I've not seen Omega Man but have caught the Vincent Price version. Price is actually pretty decent for a script a little lacking but the real let down (again) is the Vampires/Zombies or in this case a bunch of painted up drunks with no sense of co-ordination or balance. In all honesty it is a pretty enjoyable 50's B-Movie with budget gravitas from Price and cheap thrills from the undead. The fact that we have had three adaptations now must show that they haven't quite hit the nail on the head yet and there's still a lot of scope with this story. "Come out Robert......."
  9. I really got a kick out of Deaprtures as well. Tight, tight, tight.
  10. REALLY?!?! Can you PM any details? Price, age, retubed? I've been in touch with a guy who is offering me a good deal but he is London which is OK, just a little problematic for me right now. Anyway, details!
  11. I'm probably gonna do a Jan and get the Red House Painters/Sun Kil Moon stuff too. It's weird...it's like once his sound gets under your skin, you can't get enough. That is a man with a very clear vision of what he wants to accomplish. It sounds mighty lovely. Yeah, I need some of that STAT!
  12. I like a bit of Floyd from time to time. Not a constant in my life though. I'm still looking to buy some of my top ten albums from last year. I feel if it's made the final cut, it's only right to have the hard copy right? I usually use my Amazon wish list to keep on top of the CD's/DVD's I'd like to get hold of. Choice highlights from my three pages include The Dismemberment Plan back catalogue, African Scream Contest, Nomo's first album, and a whole bunch of westerns. I think most of my funds this year are going towards recording, gear(amp, monitors, mics), and a holiday. Can't beat some of those amazon marketplace prices though!
  13. Tube amp is super high and close! I'm looking at either a Fender Deville or the Deluxe Reverb. Some nice plug ins and a couple new mics would also be much appreciated.
  14. I think you need to come over for a beer and an pedal tryout! I've a TS9 unmodded.
  15. Now in a position to add to this thread. The Wire is immense. One of the best things to happen on TV in a long while. I haven't been this caught on a TV show since Band of Brothers. The dialogue is uber sharp and punchy, the characters are so detailed and well developed. The story lines are vast and intricate but digestable and stimulating. It's incredible for a show to really bring to the forefront issues which are really affecting a modern urban environment without pandering to the "need" for over the top action sequences, melodramatic music, or typical narrative arcs. Smart, compelling and entertaining. I met a woman from Baltimore earlier this year and she said that this show brought a lot of light and attention on subjects that no one in Baltimore really wanted to address. It has been hugely well received there and finally helped to start some intiatives to make things better in the more run down districts of the city. I'm half way through Season 5 and don't want it to end. I think I'll be going right back to the start sometime this year. It's one of the few things I recommend to everyone I know, even those who don't watch a lot of TV. Omar is the man.
  16. Hmmm...I'm currently looking to get a tube amp but this is something I'd probably consider later in the year. I'd love to do a comparision sometime to hear the difference.
  17. I lie - I actually went to see The Reader on Friday. Was a very powerful film. Really well done and gave due discourse I felt to a lot of topics let alone the drama that occured between the two central charatcers. Hopefully gonna go catch Slumdog this weekend coming.
  18. Just a few nominations: Best Band: Copy Haho Best Live: Ashley Park (drunk but especially sober) Best Newcomer: Y Change Costume Best Rock: Copy Haho Best Extreme: We Shall be Blessed Best Metal: My Minds Weapon Best of the Rest: Kitchen Cynics and Ashley Park (Joint) Most Missed: We Shall be Blessed
  19. Everything is Illuminated is really watchable but it is worth checking out the book too. Still one of the best novels I have ever read. I was the same about I Am Legend. It's not a patch on the book (which gripped me so much I finished it in a night) but second time viewing, I found the first half of the film really got to me but it was let down overall when the vampires appear . They could have found a more intelligent way of portraying them and they do not come across like that in the novel at all. Terrible Hollywood ending to the film. Not really watched anything else of late except The Wire. Just working through the final season 5. Don't want it to end!

I know it was a while back but I got tickets for the NFL game in london. Was a great day minus Joss and Stereophonics. Next year it's New England and Tampa. Already put myself forward for the ticket draw. Can't wait! If I had more time on my side, I'd love to sign up for some flag football! I had no idea there was an Aberdeen team. When do you guys play? I've been a Cowboys fan since I started the glory hunting back in the 90's. Not so good now but I'm hanging in there with them. Been to a few games in the States and you can't beat it for a day of sports. Baseball comes close but the stadium atmosphere for a football game is unparalleled. Personal memory highlight was seeing Dallas beat NY Giants in New York 35-0. I've found it hard to keep up with the playoffs so far because of work. Have I missed any good games?
  21. I adore this album. Sugarcube is one of their most kicking tunes and Damage is a quiet treasure of a song. Got a lot of strong memories associated with this album. The Cure's 4:13 is, for the most part, really enjoyable too.
  22. I've tried listening to the Hold Steady and never got into them but I'm told seeing them live can really change your opinion of them.
  23. I saw Battles at ATP vs the Fans and they were a treat to watch. Not a lot of social interaction from a bunch of mathy geeks with a sense of groove but great show overall. Interpol's third album and seeing them live at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange were both let downs. They just came across really poorly but I've been told this isn't alwasy the case. Third album had maybe two worthwhile tunes. Have not listened to Bloc Party after seeing them live at the Music Hall. They came across really badly at that one. Just not bothered now. I was also somewhat gutted with Shellac's last offering. Excellent Italian Greyhound starts off really well but then meanders a lot. Steady as She Goes is one of their top tunes though. They've been gigging a lot more regularly the last couple of years and are still a top band to catch. I've never heard a band as rhythmically tight before. They do have a couple of tricks in the bag which they always pull out live (the Q&A sessions for example) but they are always entertaining and impressive.
