  1. Isis - Wavering Radiant. Well impressed with this. Personally speaking, I feel this is the best thing they've done since Oceanic. It feels like a very cohesive album with a very cohesive sound throughout. A great progression. It's also made me feel I should go back and re-evaluate "In the Absence of Truth" which I wrote off very quickly. Doom/Sparklehorse - Dark Night of the Soul. Pink Floyd - Dark Side Miles Davis - Live/Evil. This one has been getting a fairly regular rotation (thanks Jim/AllHisEngines for poisoning me with your jazz!). First track is a total winner.
  2. I've had one play of this all the way through and have really enjoyed it. It's a great project and they've come away with some fantastic tunes. Be a real shame if they can't get a proper release sorted. I enjoyed this a lot more than the last Sparklehorse band album.
  3. This book is ace. Always recommend it.
  4. Sagarmartha - Appleseed Cast Marvin Gaye - What's Going On Japandroids - Post Nothing All ace. Good times.
  5. I'm glad that Five are exploring this avenue. They've already got Birra Moretti on tap which is a super fine lager any day of the week.
  6. I've always been a fan of Green King. It's just a perfect ale for a summer's day. I wholeheartedly agree with the call for Brew Dog. I haven't been disappointed with anything by them yet and their IPA is top notch. I swear they do a kick ass Pilsner as well. Orkney Brewery's Red Macgregor or Valhalla Brewery's Island Bere would also be amazing to have.
  7. Good night all round. Errors were in excellent form. Sound guy knew exactly what he was doing with them. That band do have quite a dependence on the drummer. Without his interesting little bits and bobs, I do wonder if they would just sound like an average electro outfit. Who cares - as they stand, they really are worth catching live. Go faster had their moments but Mitchell Museum did not really reel me in. Phil has an ace brand now - really recognisable through the bills/genre's that he's looking to promote, the posters he puts together and the inclusion of some very nice visuals. They really helped bring the club night some identity. As added testimony, I'll be attending the sunday Slanted gig and I'm not even sure if I'll check out the bands playing beforehand.
  8. Outpost? I saw it a couple of weeks ago. Not amazing but passed an afternoon pleasantly enough.
  9. Is it all you hoped it would be? I could almost be tempted by one of these.
  10. So did I! So sparse and beautifully put together. Ending was a lot more violent than I was expecting but it is well worth catching this before another dreary american rehash.
  11. Space is the Place was definitely high up on the list but I'll try Angels and Demons too. Cheers sir!
  12. Looking to go a bit further with my delvings into the Sun Ra Arkestra. Got hold of "The Futuristic Sounds of Sun Ra" but was wondering if anyone had any stellar recommends for these guys? It's a pretty impressive back catalgoue.
  13. Best Club: Snafu. Best Pub...Moorings, POW, Under the Hammer and The Grill all get my vote.
  14. I think this is still gonna most of the usual Tarantino stylings and he'll throw historical accuracy out of the window a little. It'll be a like an adult GI Joe/Commando Comics WWII flick. Brad Pitt makes that pretty clear in the trailer where he spouts that his men have one job to do: Kill Nazis. If it isn't overly overly hammy, it should be worth a look.
  15. All this Band of Brothers chat has fired me up! It is long overdue a re-visit. Awesome series which had me hooked from start to finish. Truly, between that and The Wire (and some BSG), I don't really need anymore TV. Last film I saw was "Inglorious Bastards" the 70's B-Movie which was the inspiration behind Tarantino's new WWII flick. Had Bo Svenson (the bad guy from Speed 2) and Fred Williamson in it. Very, very enjoyable for all the wrong reasons. In one scene, someone chucks a grenade and one of the nazi bad guys appears to launch into space after it explodes. By the end characters just disappear without any notice. In the Phillipines, it was released as "The Dirty Bastard". Good. Times. Anyone seen the preview for "Inglourious Basterds" (ie Tarantino version). Thoughts? I think it's got potential.
  16. I concur. This has great potential!
  17. Fool of a Took for not attending this gig from beginning to end! Awe inspiring. Gigs like this remind you how exciting live music can and should be. Even in ever so modestly powered Tunnel 2, they brought every ounce of dynamic intensity and depth I hoped they would. Best Deen gig so far this year. I believe the correct term is Yas Min?
  18. Hey Y'all, Can anyone recommend a really good dedicated mastering studio that's UK based?
  19. This is the best thing I've heard all day by far.
  20. I like it when bands actually bother to turn up for soundcheck...or even the gig! Band called Adam Bomb were supposed to be the last act on at Snafu last night. They didn't show up or inform anyone of their whereabouts. They were bringing the entire backline for the other two bands. Kudos to Bloodnut for pulling it together at the last minute. We gave Adam Bomb till 8.15 before Bloodnut dashed off to get gear. Sidestepping the issue of bands providing their own amps yada yada yada... If you've been told that a band are more than happy to share their backline with you and then don't show - how prickish is that? Work with the sound tech - The old trick of turning your guitar amp up just before you play ruins a mix in a smaller venue drastically. Talk to them if you're not happy. This does assume the sound tech is an approachable type of person! It's been awhile since I've worked with an utter grump though. Kartta played a date in belfast last year and we had the most useless engineer. He just seemed a little clueless and awkward. Idol Wild Phil is really good at getting in touch with bands we're sharing a bill with beforehand just to introduce yourselves, suss any logstical/gear problems, and try and smooth out any possible problems. This is a positive approach. Have more than a competant understanding of the gear you are using and how your group work together musically. If you can sort decent amp levels between on stage, you'll all be happier about how you hear each other.
