Escape to Victory require a guitarist. We are a punk rock/melodic hardcore band from Aberdeen that have been gigging since 2007. Collectively, we have a wide and eclectic range of musical tastes and influences but have been compared to Bad Religion, Anti-Flag, The Bronx, Kid Dynamite and Sick of It All. We are looking for somone that can play our current songs and be able to add something to them, and also contribute to the songwriting process. Why all the hate against Ebdon? I've always quite liked him actually. He seemed to have charisma when he first made a name for himself, getting all emotional and throwing his cue about while wearing unusual waistcoats which is why I think I quite like him. Plus I remember wanting him to beat Stephen Hendry in a final (1996?) because I never liked Hendry so these things kind of stick with you

It's a shame there wasnt more people at this, as judging from the size of the audience at gigs like Low Anthem/Jeffrey Lewis/Devendra Banhart in recent years there is a huge audience for that kind of thing and I'm sure they would have loved all the acts. I think it was best I've seen Alan. Wig Smith and Diane were both excellent too although I would like to see her solo next time. There is no doubt Anders was a good percussionist and when it worked it was amazing but I thought a few of the songs would have benefited more from just the voice and guitar

I agree, it is very good. I think a lot of people get put off them by the lad-rock image, not helped by Chelsea Dagger being used on the darts on ITV at every single opportunity, and I dread to think what kind of cretins they would have attacted to AECC. I was fortunate to see them on a tiny stage at a festival in Baltimore where there was no trouble and really enjoyed them. It seems like every guitar band from the mid 00s has vanished with the exception of Arctic Monkeys. It was obvious it was going to happen just like it did in the mid 90s but its such a massive list of albums by the likes of The Enemy, Kaiser Chiefs, Razorlight, The Fratellis, Milburn that were such epic failures.

Alan mentioned this last week and I knew I recognised the name so I had a dig about my collection and found an excellent freebie from Mojo with her on it as well as Davy Graham, Kevin Ayers, Pete Brown and Espers which I've been enjoying greatly these last few days. The Diane Cluck track is excellent - very late 60s/Sandy Denny style vibe to it - not sure if that's representative of her other stuff? I'll be along anyway I see Diane's drummer is also a member of the excellent Bundles with Jeffrey Lewis and Kimya Dawson. It's been a long time since I've seen Kitchen Cynics live too

Yeah they dropped him from the Friends Provident T20 final last night. It was a pretty controversial ending to the game but exciting nonetheless. So Scotland against the champions eh? I was half expecting Carberry to be picked in place of Cook for this weekends test match but England have stuck with him which is bad for Scotland as Carberry is certainly in form.

Robin Hood's Bay is very nice. Hull on the other hand...well it's got it charms (the cobbled streets of the old town where the best pubs and all the museums are, the Hull Adelphi - the only venue surely that is just an extension of someones house) but I can't imagine too many people visiting loving it. If you do ever go though, make sure to pop a visit to nearby Beverley too. I'd put Hull at number one on my list. I haven't been since 2005 and miss it greatly. I'd also like to go to Glastonbury, Taiwan, Japan, France, Chicago, Portland, Seattle, Nashville, Mexico, New Zealand, Bath, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Netherlands, Germany...it's an endless list. there hasn't been much coverage of this anywhere (adverts/mentions in the Evening Express) but Scotland play two matches in this years ECB Pro40 League at Mannofield soon. 21st August v Hampshire (who have Michael Carberry, Michael Lumb, Dominic Cork and Simon Jones in their squad) 22nd August v Leicestershire (who have Matthew Hoggard and future England star James Taylor) I expect Scotland will get hammered in both games (they are bottom of their group just now) but should be good days out anyway, hopefully they'll put up a good fight and we'll get to see some class players in the opposition. This is proper bad news. Surely Korova's competition must have had a huge effect on it all... It was never my favourite venue but I've still had hundreds of good nights there and its still one less venue to see bands in Aberdeen (especially as The Lemon Tree in the last two years has hardly booked anything worth mentioning - though I've faith Steven will change that!).
