  1. I know what you mean. Cellar 35 isn't very realistic for putting on certain bands when you need 60-70 to break even but it sucks playing to a room that looks empty. Plus, for for GFN that appeals to a very tiny audience, it's almost impossible to get a weekend at The Tunnels. We'd previously use East Neuk but theyve stopped doing gigs. Plus it was a hellhole.
  2. Just had a listen, reminds me very much of Melissa Auf Der Maur's solo stuff. Makes sense seeing as she was aided my Homme and Oliveri. It's alright I guess. I prefer the Distillers.
  3. May 2nd apparently. Good times!
  4. Woo, this will be good! Escape To Victory would love to do it if your not fed up of us... The Terrors from Glasgow would also make a good support and know theyd love to play...they sound like The Distillers meets Misfits The Terrors on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads (playing Cellar 35 April 3rd if you like the sound of that)
  5. I thought the capacity for Cellar 35 was only about 70, how will this work?
  6. Nice work. Mark Morriss will be amazing (his solo work as good as, if not better than The Bluetones) and he was excellent at Wizard.
  7. Tough decisions. I've gone mainly for a Paul selection, not only because he has the most to choose from but because McCartney and Ram are the two best solo albums of The Beatles. However, I havent listened to All Things Must Pass in a while so I probably could have picked another off that...I've seperated it to side one and two but think it might actually qualify as a double album Side One 1. Instant Karma - John 2. Too Many People 3. I'd Have You Anytime - George 4. Maybe I'm Amazed 5. Heart of The Country 6. Tomorrow Side 2 7. Love - John 8. It Don't Come Easy - Ringo 9. Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey 10. Silly Love Songs 11. Band on The Run 12. Give Me Love - George 13. Working Class Hero - John 14. Jenny Wren 15. Happy Xmas - John 16. The Backseat of My Car
  8. I hope Flav has copies of his recent split 7" with Kepi Ghoulie available!

    RIP Test

It's sports entertainment, which is close enough. I liked Test although I went off him when he joined TNA as in the Wrestling Promotion not T&A the tag-team who were awesome)

    RIP Test

Only 33. Thought he could have been massive if he was used properly. Another blow to the world of Wrestling
  11. Thanks everyone. I've closed the survey at 100 responses now but thank you so much for helping me out. I'll post some of the findings at a later date!
  12. Yep, but instead you got to be on TV doing a better job than Jamie Langfield!
  13. Bearded looks rather good although yet to pick it up. For Mr Agreeable fans, check this also for archive Melody Maker/NME someone has uploaded: Mr. Agreeable Archived Music Press
  14. Should you not be bumping up our future gig on the next page then this one that's already happened
  15. I miss Melody Maker too being the first music magazine I bought on a regular basis as a 14 year old even though in hindsight there was a lot of rubbish it gave coverage to in it's last year. Thanks to everyone that has done the survey. I'm aiming to get 100 responses (got 84 just now) so if you still havent taken it, it only takes a minute so please have a go! cheers
  16. The Joy Formidable were def the highlight for me. A fantastically tight set. I really enjoyed Howling Bells too but couldn't get into Chew Lips at all and the singers dancing was annoying.
  17. Thank for the responses. Yep, it's Publishing with Journalism although the main body of the dissertation is to link politics and music, in particular the NME and it's fight against far right politics and compare it to other magazines on the go. I realised I missed a few key ones when listing (Rock Sound, The Word), so apologies. To do this I also was interested in seeing if NME readers share interests/values when it comes to politics but to analyse this I need to compare this to that of readers of other music magazines. Someone responded with the question "its none of your business" to the who did you vote for question. I just want to point out you don't have to leave your details and there is an option for I'd rather not say (or of course you can just ignore the question completely if you'd rather I think) cheers!
  18. [B]GFN? presents (in no particular order...running order not yet decided!): The Fractions (Rochdale) As seen supporting Rancid on their last tour! "The Fractions effectively harness the liveliness and party spirit of ska-punk, while delivering plenty of punk attitude in the form of defiant vocals and furious riffs. The Fractions are fun to listen to, thanks to their jazzy overtones, but there's more than enough here for those who like their music a little bit mean." - Leeds Music Scene The Fractions on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads Jonas First Date (Italy) Female fronted melodic punk rock/hardcore. For fans of Paramore etc Jonas First Date on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads The Terrors (Glasgow) Female fronted street punk with a hint of psychobilly. For fans of The Distillers, The Horrorpops, F-Minus MySpace | A Place for Friends + local skanks The Hijacks - "Quality ska punk" - Last Hours Fanzine The Hijacks on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads and Escape To Victory "Stupidly impressive punk rock in the same vein as Anti-Flag with a hardcore edge reminscent of Ghost of A Thousand" - Daily Dischord website Escape To Victory on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads @ Cellar 35, Rosemount Viaduct, Aberdeen Friday April 3rd 2009 7pm, 5 entry
  19. I'm doing a dissertation on the influence of the music press. If you could spare a couple of mins to fill out my survey then it'd be really much appreciated! Ta kindly Consumption and Influence of the Music Press
