  1. Radiohead - OK Computer The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds both huge well known albums, but both classics and fantastic music David
  2. p90's are excellent, I have a duncan phat cat in my tele and it sounds amazing A halfway point between a humbucker and singlecoil, a lot 'fatter' and ballsier than a singlecoil, but more cutting and defined than a humbucker I think bareknuckle do a p90 in a humbucker sized mount too David
  3. If it is just the cloth that has been taken off it should be fine - the wires are insulated so wouldn't short against the bridge, the problem would come if the pickup moves at all (which it can do depending on how you play and store the guitar and so on) it could very easily wear away and short out The worry would be that when you took off the cloth, you damaged the windings, and will have knackered the pickup. I would probably recover it with black electrical tape and try installing it again, and just be extra careful not to damage the tape or windings when you put it in David
  4. Phish - A live one World/Inferno friendship Society - Red Eye'd Soul Finally got the Phish album after ordering it from One Up only for it to come up as deleted after waiting four months. and it is fantastic (Nothing bad to say about One Up though, they put the order through straight away, just it got held up at the distributor) David
  5. To be honest I couldn't care either way if they bring the amendment in. We have a view of Bush as an idiot, but he must be doing something right before being voted into the white house for a second term, so if what he is doing is what the population (or majority of at least) of America wants, then thats fine by me if they keep him in charge. that being the point in a democracy David
  6. Indeed, just a severe lacking in skills and knowledge to do it properly, bearing in mind things like porting and design needed to make an effective cab, so I will have to pass for now, sorry for the bother David
  7. DIY it, the hardest part being finding a case for it if you are needing for the board, a plank of wood with speaker type covering over it (looks like the fuzzy side of velcro - often seen covering amps and the like)(plus any edging and handles you want to spruce it up and make it look nicer and last) then some hook velcro stuck to the backs of the pedals to attach them with - holds them pretty securely, but you can move them without too much effort. for power, either a Voodoolabs PP2+ if you can afford to do it properly (properly regulated and isolated supply), or one of the cheap five way supplys you can get for £20-30 David
  8. Indeed, I am just lacking in a cab ot actually put them in... David
  9. That does explain the price... damn David
  10. Got any photos of the two cabs? are they a MAG210 and BSE 115 cabs? David
  11. Seriously, it sounds like a dodgy connection somewhere in the guitar, I would check if the jack is loose or anythign like that - if it is it stresses the wires connected to it and will have problems like what you are describing (before breaking the connections proeprly), either that or a similar dodgy connection somewhere else in the guitars wiring Turning up the volume to full probably jiggles the wires about a wee bit and brings back the connection for you sometimes With guitars, if the knobs or jacks or whatnot are ever loose, do tighten them and don't just ignore them, especially the jack (which will spin about and has more stress on it from teh cable) as it will eventually bugger up the wiring... (and its an easy job, open up the guitar, hold the component and use a spanner to tighten the nut on the outside) David
  12. I thought the ref was being gutted and turned into the new ref, just newer and nicer not really a complete change of use. An on campus union would be good for visiting while at uni, but not as good for the rest of the time, I can't see too many people going there instead of into town, a lot simpler just to get the bus into town and have all the other clubs and bars nearby if you feel like a quick change of drinking scenery I am wandering what the ref will be like now, the lounge upstairs was rather cool (in its kinda old and shabby style) and the jukebox was mighty, I am guessing that sadly it will either be gone completely now, or updated with new music as opposed the the actually quite good selection there before, that is if they haven't found a whole new use for hte floor, I liked it as a place to hide during the day away from any learning or other such nonsense Oh, and the palacial sized toilets that always amused me, probably turned into normal sized ones now... I missed ever using the old union, but it looked rather cool having a big place in the city centre to use for whatever reasons David
  13. buying cds and ripping them is how I do it, all the music on the walkman at whatever quality I choose, plus I can listen to the cd in my stereo or in the car or whatever... With Itunes you still have to pay for the songs, just you can buy them per song as downloads rather than a full album myspace has quite a lot of music available, not all of it is downloadable though, worth a look though the other option is p2p networks, which are on the wrong side if being legal, but still seem to be going strong David
  14. Speakers from an Ashdown cab? David
  15. If its the connector at the bottom of the phone, I found that if mine is sitting at the edge or a table or whatever, the cable can pull down (gravity pulling the cable itself) just enough to make the connection dodgy, flip the phone over and it seemed to be fine David
  16. There is a bus going round all the parks during the summer, but I don't know where exactly it stops The 14 or 15 take you to hazlehead, which is then a short walk to the park (simplest way, get off at the hazlehead terminus (one bus turns round there, one keeps going) then walk up a bit until you see Hazlehead academy, then down groats road until yuou find the gate to the park The 11 will also take you to the other side of the park, get off at the terminus, keep walking up the road the bus stopped at (it turns back when it reaches the corner/terminus, just keep following it round), when you reach the junction at the end, cross the road and go up the wee road straight ahead, which turns into a patch through some tree's, then turn left at the top where it comes out onto a road again, and walk along until you find the front gate the 23 and 18 both get you within walking distance, though a bit more awkwardand further away than the above no idea on any stagecoach routes or anything, though there are ones that go out the same road as the 14/15 David
  17. Being able to return tickets for the fce value is fine and well, but who out there is going to return their ticket for t in the park or whatever for face value when they find they can't make it, when they could sell privatly for a huge profit on top? This does absolutely nothing for the people out there buying and selling to purely make a profit, and only helps the innocent people who just want to not lose any money when they have to sell on tickets Some form of exchange could be a cool idea, letting people easily get rid of what they don't want for credit towards other shows or whatever, but again, that only helps the small people who are not out for a profit David
  18. wow, that would be some collection to see David
  19. I am guessing teh chap throwing out cds isn't really a big fan of music, and into more buying the flavour of the month album and chart singles, which get listened to then forgotten about as the next big band comes along, how many of the people who bought a Limp Bizkit or whoever cd when they were cool still listen to it often? In some ways I can understand where he is coming from, but it is still a bit alien to me There is also the idea of moving forwards all the time, instead of sticking to a few bands he likes, he is forcing himself to find lots of new music to replace what he has just lost, so even if he buys lots of nice new cds, he won't still listen to the same couple of albums half the time Personally I am keeping all the cds I own, admittedly there are many I don't listen to that often, as my tastes have changed over time, but there are always the days I feel the need to listen to x band I haven't heard in ages. I guess it would make sense every so often to look through them all and get rid of everything I don't listen to, I guess I just like the fact I own a couple of shelves full of cds, in a way a collection like someone collects stamps (just cooler, obviously ) I Have a friend who thinks I have/buy far too many cds, and I only have just under 200... which is nothing compared to many out there... As for friends and musical tastes, I like my friends for who they are first, music tastes are just an icing on the cake, I have close friends not really into music that much and if thats what they like, fine by me, they are still incredible people, I have other friends just (if not more) into music as me and thats cool too One thing I really like is knowing people who like different genres and styles of music, as it gives me the oppertunity to find out about different bands and music and expand my tastes through what they like and recommend, I have found many cool bands this way who I probably wouldn't have looked near in one up if a friend hadn't told me about them and let me listen to them... So yes, peoples tastes in music and so on do affect how you consider them and what you talk about, but isn't a factor in whether I would consider them friends or not. David
