The "ask ca_gere NYC tips" thread #2836746

Recommended Posts

Tbh I wanted to know myself. I was thinking of watching it somewhere and because there's no early prem games the chances of my usual haunts being open are low.

Coincidentally, that's the same place I watched the final game of the season 2 years ago and I haven't been back since or even thought about the place until now. Spooky shit.

That's some service.

To be clear if anyone asks for Barcelona tips I won't be phoning anybody!

Where's good for beers near Marina underground? Please and thank you.

This thread is only making my desire to go to New York stronger. A pub open from 7am that shows Aberdeen games? Swoon!

Marina isn't actually an area I'f ever really go to. The only place I can think of is Ovella Negra which is a massive beer hall type place. It's not bad, the beer is pretty cheep and it has loads of pool and fussball tables. You might have to put up with large groups of annoying erasmus students though.

I spent a whole afternoon here eating myself stupid: http://www.smorgasburg.com/ Especially the 'smores and buffalo wings. That's something I really miss about the US. Amazing buffalo wings and good, decent cheap coffee. Mind you, I miss that about Berlin as well.

Then drank myself stupid whilst playing videogames at Barcade.

This place is also good for ice-cream - http://biggayicecream.com/  - the Salty Pimp is brilliant.

Dons games are tricky. Particularly early games. There's a Celtic bar that shows Scottish Football but if there's a Celtic game on at the same time you're outta luck. That said I wouldn't be surprised if they'd put the game on at least one TV if you asked. They're guaranteed to be open at that time anyway.

Jack Demsey's on 33rd st between 5th and 6th ave.

This happened, minus the Dons game. We were stuck watching the Celtic game on a dodgy stream off a guy's laptop surrounded by sectarian decor. Not ideal but was nice to share an 8am pint of piss-weak lager with a fellow ab-music member.

Agreed, good fun apart from the US tattie munchers getting excited about Commons' "assist" or whatever.

On the plus side, we didn't have to see THAT Aberdeen game. :)

Spot the difference between the US and Scotland:

Erm...WHAT??

Oh aye. It's pretty amazing. There are a few of these bars actually. There's a guy in the back just pumping out 9 inch pizzas with minimal toppings and you get a token with every drink, hand it to him and receive pizza. They're proper stone baked pizzas too. It's fantastic when you're skint but still want to get drunk without forfeiting eating.

It's a decent business model if you think about it - i've eaten max 3 pizzas in a night but i've stayed for way more drinks so even if the profit margin on an individual pizza is low, people will tend to stay there longer and drink more than they'll eat.
