20!!? thats like being asked to name 10 famous Belgians. (obviously 20 famous Belgians would be an oxymoron, or something like quantum theory; technically feasible, but so unlikely as to be effectively impossible*).

*At our current level of understanding.

I can actually do 10 famous belgians:

Plastic Bertrand

The Singing Nun (Jeanine Deckers)

Enzo Scifo

Herge (Georges Prosper Remi- Author of Tintin)

Audrey Hepburn

Jean-Claude Van Damme

Jacques Brel

Django Reinhardt

Brain Molko

Eddy Merckx

20 would be a stretch :D

As for 20 bassists, there's no way i could manage that :p

Private joke time:

1. Rod

2. Me

3. David

Real list time (in no real order):

Jaco, Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten, Stu Hamm, John Paul Jones, John Entwhistle, Flea, Stanley Clarke, Larry Graham, Bootsy, Billy Sheehan, Steve Harris, Geddy Lee, James Jamerson, Duff Mckagan (I don't care what you say Rod, he is one of my favourites, so i put him here :p), Mark King, Phil Lynott, Stuart Zender, Les Claypool, John Deacon.

There we go, list of 20 good bass players.

Oho, good list! I would have ranked Herge above the Singing Nun though.

Good to see that Belgian list in full before the country disintegrates, who could even name 5 famous Walloons?

I thought Audrey Hepburn was British, so I checked, and she was born there, so that definitely counts (according to the 'AC/DC are Scottish' bylaw anyway), but of Anglo-Dutch parentage.

I tend to prefer the less flashy bassists myself, but second the Norman Watt-Roy mention.....I suppose my faves include..Danny Thomson & Charles Mingus (if we're allowed double-bass players), plus Jack Bruce, Kevin Ayers (in early Soft Machine), Noel Redding, John Entwistle (all the obvious ones)....maybe Glenn Cornick, Chuck Rainey, John Balkin, Dave Pegg...?? My 2 local ones would be..Ian Slater (APB) and Andy Bass (Tupelo Town Assembly).
