Danny Doubt
Joe Satriani can play...but i reckon Mike Einziger of Incubus is well underrated

smitty
steve vai -- truly amazing genious. sit the bugger in a room of jazz guitarists and he'll be able to keep up, then send him next door with the shred folk and he'll be able to keep up. versatile and amazing, thats what he is. "For the Love Of God" has so much feeling it makes me want to cry.Yngwie malmsteen - neoclassical wankery from a fat swedish man but i love him

palmer_eldritch
So your saying Satriani came out of Hendrix? Ok, fair enough if thats what he said. But listening to Satriani, i think everybody would be inclined to say hes playing tricks started by van halen. Theres very little (from what ive heard) that sounds like Hendrix from Satriani. less_than_stu
Django Reinhardt...[Hope that suggestion is amazing enough on it's own without any sort of explanation]
Knight of Swords
I was going to say Django, but I'm several months too late.Don't usually post on threads that have been dead for a while, but I think there's a big case to be argued that Joe Satriani actually spends more time ripping off Jeff Beck than anybody that's already been mentioned. Generally, there's a hell of a lot of really good guitarists who all say Jeff Beck is the best and I personally think he is as well (btw I'm not being arrogant, I'm not a really good guitarist). However, my favourite guitarist is Rory Gallagher.Good shouts for Billy Gibbons, Gary Moore and Alex Lifeson.
TR!ΔNGL€ T€€TH
Is this thread about best guitarists or people's favourite guitarists?
Guest bluesxman
He gave birth to distortion. He was the original' date=' and pulled it out from nowhere. [/quote'] I think Link Wray beat him by some 10 years by sticking a pencil through his amp. Listen to Rumble.

Demon Of The Fall
John Petrucci is the correct answer
Guest Gregor Ascension
John Petrucci is the correct answerLOL. incorrect answer. great player yes, but there are alot of players out there who do the same thing as he, and are infact better. Michael Romeo for instance, and he would literaly eat him for breakfast! of course, as this thread shows, there is no best guitarist as it is all down to opinion, whether you like punk or classical or whatever.
