Proof, D12 Rapper, Dead at 32

Amy Phillips reports:

Detroit MC Proof, a member of the group D12 and a close friend of Eminem, was shot and killed early this morning at a club in his hometown, various sources report. At the moment, no suspects have been identified in the murder of the rapper, whose birth name was DeShaun Holton.

Proof was a prominent booster of the Detroit hip-hop scene; a skilled battle rapper, he helped cultivate the city's freestyle talent by hosting battles and mentoring young rappers. He was the basis for Mekhi Phifer's character in the 2002 film 8 Mile, and also appeared in the movie, playing a member of Eminem's entourage named Lil' Tic. After the success of that film, Proof hosted "Interscope Presents: The Next Episode", a rap competition on Showtime. His debut solo album, Searching for Jerry Garcia, was released in 2005.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Proof was a longtime friend of Eminem, and the genesis of D12 was his idea. When Eminem remarried Kim Mathers in January, Proof was his best man.

The Free Press also reports that anyone with information regarding the murder should contact the Detroit Police at 313-596-2260.

They'll never find the gun man, they never do when its a rapper.

As Chris Rock once said.. "if you wanna get away with murder in the USA, just stick a demo tape in his pocket"

Shame. Never really was a fan, but its a waste of life, especially since he brought a lot to the rap scene.

If that is the true story' date=' then maybe everyone can stop praising him. If he pulled a gun first then it's his own damn fault.[/quote']

Agree. He did some good stuff musically and its sad when anyone leaves the planet (generally anyway) but anyone who carries a gun and shoots first dosent deserve any respect at all, despite being a decent rapper. Id generally see anyone who carries a gun as a complete @rsehole. Most of America basically.
