HateEvent
Anyone have any comments or reviews on this amp. I have nowhere to try it but going from many soundclips people on other messageboards have made for me, I'm quite resolute on wanting one. It does what I need it to do (from what I've heard). Just looking for extra opinions. It will be running through a Marshall 1936 2x12 cab. Cheers, James
craig deadenstereo
I played it in a shop in Edinburgh, through an ENGL 4x12 at medium volume (2 or 3).I personally thought an angel had come from heaven and touched my shoulder. Nice cleans, with a good amount of dirt to be dialed in, and the hi gain stuff was intense. I liked the amp a lot.

Guest DustyDeviada
Is it a powerball that they have at The Moorings? If so, it's awesome, just a great amp.
Guest DustyDeviada
Seems that it is, if so head town to The Moorings on a Sunday night for the jam session and you can have a go!http://www.aberdeen-music.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25425
Guest five years
one of the best live sounds i've ever heard was 2 engl powerball + mesa cabs halfstacks with caliban (who are balls) playing through them. the actual guitar (esp + emg) sound was awesome though.randall's are pish. HateEvent
I've played the Powerball a few times since starting this thread (over a year ago!).I love the amp so much!I bought one today infact!Marshall 1960A is the cab I went for rather than the 1936 I considered last year. Barxy
Simply one of the best amps. My Boss tours with this amp and i play on it all the chance i get. The sound and power enable it to cut through even the biggest sounds. I think for 999 you can't go wrong at all. The sounds are absolutly incredible. http://www.wholelottametal.com/http://www.lifeismusic.co.uk/guitar/Engl-Powerball-100W-Amplifier--1388.aspx
HateEvent
Getting it for even less than that makes it so much sweeter!I just pray that it comes in time for this Tunnels charity gig on the 23rd!

HateEvent
Well... it didn't arrive for the gig but nevermind - cos I got it yesterday! It sounds simply astonishing! The cleans are perfect and there is sooooo much distortion on board!Great for low or high volumes (used it at practice last night and it was sounding rather good IMO ).My old rough setting for my sound is now out the window too (gain at about 8 on the highest gain channel (as was the case with the Mesa)) as now I use the 'Lo Gain' setting with the gain at about 4 and it still manages to sound MASSIVE!I advise the amp to anyone!:D:D
Guest DustyDeviada
I advise the amp to anyone!OK, I play jazz and rockabilly, do you "advise" it to me?
HateEvent
I actually think this will do anything well!Crunch channel is great for anything not metal that needs some drive!Such a flexible amp!If we gig with you then ya can see if it does the trick! I don't regret it for one second now (I was contemplating just going for a DSL50 and using an EQ in the loop) as it's what I've wanted for - as you can see by the date of the first post - a very long time. David B
Is it an Engl amp which Ritchie Blackmore plays these days?He is "the man" so far as I am concerned and I am sure I read somewhere that this was his current amp.Saw him with Rainbow 25 years ago but it was Marshall back then.Sweet memories!
