  1. Local bands from around the world? Not terribly local in that case.. or am I missing something? o_O
  2. Just stumbled across this post, seems like I'm late to the party.. Fuckin' love it, insane guitar playing that I can barely even comprehend. Is like a heavier Primus! Gotta say, I prefer the higher vocals, like some of the other guys on here I think the growling ones sound a little generic in comparison to the rest of it. No critisism though, totally fits and doesn't spoil it in anyway. Keep it going guys, gonna have to catch you live soon!
  3. Have to agree a million percent with that. The latching type footswitches you get with most heads are a total lottery as to when and if they'll work. Wires pulling out of everywhere and all sorts. I've got a Boss GT8 that I use for all my clean effects etc, but have assigned one pedal to change amp channels. Works like a charm each and every time, plus it sticks a noise gate in there too...
  4. Hey guys, Am looking to sell my trusty Laney GH120 head. Is basically a 2 channel, 120 watt, solid state head. Has none of the digital effects that are oh so cool to have on amps nowadays, just clean and dirty. To be honest, I don't really know how the O/D channel sounds when used properly, because I've always put my pedal board through the clean channel. Had a quick play last night and it works fine, just couldn't be bothered spending the time EQing a proper sound. The clean channel is loud as fuck though! I've played tons of amps, some shitty and some boutique, and this is louder than every single one of them. We've gigged dozens of times, and I've never even had it above 3, even at practice and even then has been too loud really. Couple of downsides, but nothing major. Reverb knob doesn't seem to be working - could be a problem, could just be a loose wire. I'm no sparky so don't want to be taking it apart. Also, there's no footswitch. Like I said, I've only ever gone through the clean channel with an effects board so never had any call for the O/D channel. Picture is here http://www.rockfactory.co.uk/prodimages2/IMG_0465.jpg More review here Guitars: GH120 by Laney | Harmony Central Am selling purely because I've got another head that I use a lot, and could do with the space and more importantly the cash. Bought about 12 months ago for 150 on ebay. Looking for 100 if anyone's interested....
  5. If you can lay your hands on one, try the Hughes & Kettner Warp Factor pedal. I used one through a Mesa Duel Rectifier for a long while and it was absolutely brutal. Takes a bit of controlling, but was still the best distortion pedal I've ever used. Played it through a load of other amps as well, and always sounded great.
  6. Jesse James...awful. Truly truly terrible. I saw them opening for just about every American punk band that came through the UK in 2001 and never failed to be shite. Aye, the 1st album is the one for me. Rest of the records seem to have the odd good song on but gradually got more and more disappointing each time. Had high hopes after the 1st record, thought they were goingto replace my beloved Op Ivy!
  7. Great live band, saw them a few times down in England and they were just great. I really liked the way that they were a supposed 'known' band, but set up their own gear and drove their own van etc. Totally down to earth. Last couple of records they did were bad though. So so bad.... o_O
  8. Finally the Foos sounding like the Foos again! Looking forward to this....
  9. Agree with that, the only way to totally stop the signal sounding any way 'digital' is to mic up your amp then direct into the soundcard. That way you'll get exactly what comes out of the amp rather than adding any process to it. Failing that, I use a Line 6 interface to connect the guitar to the soundcard, then use their Gearbox software for amp simulations etc. There will always be some elements of it sounding 'processed' but I've found with a bit of EQing you can get it sounding good. If you tweak the settings in your soundcard / DAW etc then you can actually just record your raw guitar signal whilst the monitored signal that you hear through the headphones has all the effects etc on it. That way if you record something and don't like the effects on it, you don't have to re-record the whole part - just retweak the EQing etc.
  10. I'm the same, got the UX2 with the free version, but got sick of being limited to a small number of tracks so just got the full version via a 'friend of a friend' *cough* Not used it for some time, because my Toneport is broken so need to get a new interface - just another expense! I'd like to get another Line 6 one purely to keep using the Gearbox software, but they're just so expensive still! Even 60 is a fortnight's worth of food for a poor starving musician such as myself!
  11. Just stumbled across this thread and killed an hour at work - awesome! Been listening to Destruction by Definition by the Suicide Machines a lot recently after re-finding it on the ipod - kinda ska punk if it wasn't ruined by all those baggy shorted Californians and had some hardcore in it! Also Superfuzz Bigmuff by Mudhoney and Dirt by Alice In Chains, both lovely stuff if fairly bleak!
  12. I'd be up for this at some point - I use it quite a bit and really like it. Have tried all sorts of others, Pro Tools, Cubase and the like and just find Ableton easy to use although there are a ton of features I've never even come close to understanding or using! I never use the sequencer really, just as a stand alone recording software and import drum patterns from Beatcraft and whatever samples etc I need...
  13. No worries mate, is designed for things like laptops, digital cameras and the like. Is called 'all risks cover' and you may need to specify items but most household insurers will be able to do it. If you need any more advice just drop me a PM and I'll do all I can...
  14. Speaking as an insurance 'professional' you could already have the cover under your household insurance (if you have it) for items securely locked in a car. If not, then it could be added for a whole load less than an extra 20 a month!
  15. Have had a scan here and not seen any mention of this, so apologies if it's been mentioned already... Top gig at Cafe Drummonds tonight! As Autums Falls - hardcore / punk / screamo from Edinburgh Absolutist - awesome heaviness that makes your head explode Crooked Little Vein - pop melodies under punky grungy guitars Kicks off at half 7 I believe so come down and shake your moneymakers! Cheers, Rob
  16. Got to agree with everyone here - I've got one of these and it has to be the loudest amp I have ever played through. We're loud as hell as a band and this thing has never been up past 3 on the master volume. Sounds fantastic as well, just great tone!
  17. Cheers guys - appreciate the kind words, and also Liam for the write up. Dunno what happened with my guitar to be honest, wouldn't hold it's tune at all and there was a new set of strings snapping and all sorts - just one of those gigs I suppose... We're doing Drummonds tomorrow night with the awesome Absolutist so fingers crossed that things go a little smoother this time. Would be good to see you there if you fancy it? Cheers, Rob (Crooked Little Vein)
  18. Is gonna be awesome! We're playing as well and can't wait, Japanese Voyeurs are f*cking great!!
  19. Just to let everyone know that we've got a couple of gigs coming up. Cheers, Crooked Little Vein
  20. Hey dude, just had a listen to the track now and loving it We're playing with you on 15th Jan and looking forward to the live experience! Rob (Crooked Little Vein)
  21. Got to admit that I love tinkering about with recording, different techniques so I'm looking forward to reading this thread! Personally I use my laptop and run Ableton on it as the sequencer. I know it's not as popular/fashionable as Pro Tools or Cubase etc, but I find it so simple to use and am always finding new tricks and the like! I start off with building a basic drum track using Acoustica Beatcraft which is just absolutely childs play to use. You can use your own drum samples in it, totally customise your kit and really tweak things a lot. There is also a programme called EZ Drummer by Toontrack that is supposedly the dogs bollocks, but I've never had the spare pennies to experiment with it. For now..... Guitars are all recorded through a Line 6 Tone-Port, using their Gear Box software which is amazing in my humble opinion - an almost never ending supply of different amps and tones available and you can buy expansion packs to give more boutique sounds. Can also put the bass and vocals through this as well. Then it's just a case of overdubbing, building up layers, putting in samples, taking out samples and experimenting with teh hundreds of plugins that I've managed to accumulate over the years. Before you know it, it's 4am and you realise you have to be at work in 4 hours. Happy days!
  22. Not a problem, PM just arrived so I'll sort you a CD out not a problem. Little article would be amazing as well, really appreciate the support.
  23. Cheers mate, appreciate the feedback. The language seems to be something that a few people have commented on, so obviously will take into account going forwards. The lyrics were actually not meant to be lyrics initially, more of a poem type thing that seemed to fit the music but seems to have backfired a wee bit! The tracks were recorded as a way of getting gis and getting our name out, but they actually turned out a lot better quality recordings than we'd hoped so we do have CDs and the like that we sell at shows for petrol/beer money etc. If you like, I can either email you the mp3s or stick you a CD in the post.
