  1. So are we man - If you can dream it, you can do it
  2. Back on topic... So - we just finished a tour last week of 3 nights in London, one in Manchester and one in Glasgow. How did it go? well, I had a fuckin riot, as did everyone on the trip. How did the gigs go? We pretty much played for nothing in every venue as nobody had heard of us. We played to an empty venue in Camden on the opening night, due to the promoter booking 2 Scottish bands and a Japanese band for a Monday night gig, and charged 6 on the door for the pleasure. We opened for the Grants at DeathDisco in Notting Hill, which eventually was a packed gig, but not when we played. In Manchester we headlined well past 11pm, and followed a dreadful local band who emptied the venue for us, again not many people there to see us. Glasgow was pretty busy, but then nearly everyone there had seen us before... Oh yeah, and every venue invited us back to play a decent gig later in the year, pretty much based on seeing us live as opposed to hearing a us on CD - cause lets face it how many CDs will they get through the door every day? My point being (as Glasgow demonstrated) that you sometimes have to bite the bullet and play to an empty venue in a strange city if you're gonna make any progress. Christ knows we did it often enough in Aberdeen before anyone took us seriously, I wouldnt expect any different in any other city. The success of the first tour would I'd imagine be better judged on the attendance at the 2nd...
  3. if it was a cash prize as opposed to a bar tab you'd probably get more poker players through the door
  4. My old man has one of those and uses it quite alot with acoustic-y stuff. With just a guitar and mandolin set up it sounds pretty good, and the stereo mix function on it is wicked, get a real sense of space with it. Dont know what sort of success he has had with a full band situation but he takes the thing everywhere with him!
  5. If there's anyone in football who holds a grudge longer than Alex Ferguson then I hvae yet to meet him. He tried signing Shearer twice and was turned down. Twice. In Fergie's mind, nobody should ever turn him down. He will take great pleasure in Hull winning and relegating the 'codes. And he'd probably send Keegan a text with a wee smiley afterwards as well.
  6. Mon the Caley! I'd Love it. LOVE IT if Falkirk go down.
  7. Thanks to everyone who has purchased a copy thus far Tour was wicked, big ups to Deep Iain and Aaron for their tech-aid and band banter. they were pun-derful. 8-)
  8. Awww come on - dont spoil my fun!! Was looking to catch a ncie big fish with that one..
  9. Union St is in Aberdeen, they're talking about Barfly in Glasgow
  10. Sometimes I wish I still say 'Yas min' on a regular basis.
  11. It pretty much mirrors our situation when we started out... We were known as The Leads when we formed at school and then for a good couple of years afterwards (you may even hear some 'C'mon the Leads' nonsense at gigs - Saturday in Moshulu for example) and decided to change (although we all hated the name by that point!). We changed the name before our bass player moved to Glasgow all the same, but in essence - we've got a different name and different line up now as our original bass player lives in Glasgow. 8-)
  12. Dana were also Single of the Week on iTunes last week, a freebie download as well!
  13. Sorry if I've offended you, but I never said anything about how hard you've worked or even what I think of you guys as a band. A little bit of research before you chose the name wouldn't have gone amiss though, and probably would've saved you having to change it at a later date, as is now the case. I know its probably a shit thing to say, (but a bands name is generally the first point of contact many people have with a band...) but I would not be inclined to listen to you guys based on your name. Take myspace as an example... Most people come across random bands they had previously never heard of, by noticing them in a friends list on someone elses myspace, or they've left a message on someones page etc which leads you to click through to their page. Or alternatively if they see the name on a poster for a gig etc. A name which stands out from others is very important in my book, particularly for unsigned bands on myspace, as generally people will see the name before they hear the music. 'The Marionettes' is neither particularly original (as demonstrated) nor has any intrigue about it in terms of genre or indicating creativity. For what its worth, i think your tunes are ok, but I would probably never have went out of my way to listen to you had it not been for Calum's incessant emails about your gigs and bigging you up to everyone.
  14. Due to my commitments to the Belmont Street crowd outside OneUp on Saturday, I missed this happening. I got a text from a ICT supporting 'mate' to say thanks for the 3 points, and just assumed it had finished 1-0. Nearly spat my tea out on Sunday morning when I seen 2-1, Tokely with the winner. A horrible death would be too good for Ross Tokely.
  15. I'd change it completely - think its an awful name for a band, not just in that its not a particularly great name, but the actual meaning of it doesnt do anything for me either. You'd be doing yourselves a favour by changing it completely IMO
  16. Mean Fiddler If you hit the venues tab it appears that Mean FIddler bought most of the barfly venues, retained the Barfly name at many/most, and dropped it from places such as Moshulu that already had a 'name + Barfly' combo...
  17. Moshulu is now a Mean Fiddler venue
  18. BUMP! Tomorrow night kids! 4.30pm OneUp - IRL EP Launch 10.30pm IRL & A Silent Film @ Moshulu Arent you lot lucky...
  19. Can't beat a Trashy Blonde in my book, although The Physics and Cult Lager (not an ale I know...but bottles wouldnt go amiss) are both quality BrewDog options. Was in a pub at the weekend in Kilmarnock who were selling Zesty Spark (I say selling - he was actually at the end of the barrel and about to change it so he emptied it into 7 pint glasses for those of us still at the bar at 1am ) which was a nice enough wee ale! EDIT: Spelling
  20. BBBBBBump A wee note to remind people that this gig will be preceded by IRL's EP launch in OneUp on Saturday afternoon at 16.30! Be there ya squares...
