I.R.L & Shmeet the Beat! are pleased to announce a gig upstairs in Mambo's, Peterhead on Friday April 17th. Lineup as follows: Indian Red Lopez Velvet Audio Lynne Taylor 3 on the door, 9pm. This is a pilot run of a club night we are planning to start in Mambo's and not related to the usual Saturday afternoons band set up Mambo's usually has. If successful we will be looking to do a monthly/quarterly band showcase bringing decent bands to what could be a cracking venue (Upstairs in Mambo's screams venue everytime I see it!) if run properly. Fill yer beats!

I wouldnt say I was asking them to change everything, its merely a wee suggestion to organise it a bit better. As for the Heed (actually Cruden Bay but I'll let you off once) - taught me everything I know. Except what I learned in Torry

True - but I find that different users have different ideas of what should go in each section. For example there's a thread in Music Discussion just now titled '10 EASY WISHES ARE BACK!' the subject of which is a gig announcement... Does this belong in... Music Discussion - possibly Gigs & Events - probably News & Announcements - possibly ??? Thread starter has over 900 posts on the forum, so obviously is a regular user, but the possible places for him to post this topic allows for things to become muddled.

Ok so I'm kinda new to using this forum, and dont want to step on anyone's toes or anything, but here goes... Being a regular user of forums, I am perplexed at how this one actually works?! There are a ridiculous amount of Forums & Sub Forums on here, its virtually impossible to keep track of where threads are! If I was to start a thread about a forthcoming IMP gig in Snafu (just as a contrived example...), I can see it fitting into any of the following forums: Gig & Event Announcements Music Discussion Local Band Forums News & Announcements Snafu Interesting Music Promotions o_O Can I suggest some sort of streamlining of the forums on here to make it easier to use. In the last couple of days I have contributed posts to topics and then been unable to find the same topic again to see if anyone has replied! My main suggestion would be to have a Gig Preview & Review forum where all gig threads are kept. Also I think the Local Band forum, with sub forums for individual bands is a bit pointless. Perhaps a single thread within a main music discussion Forum would be more suitable? (and if it turns out to be a popular thread it gets pinned?) There's probably heaps more I could bang on about cause I like this place and think there's potential to improve it, but I wont cause I dont want to sound like a dick basically. I realise there are guys who dedicate a fair bit of time to running sites like these and it would probably sound like I'm just on to criticise their baby. But the forum is here for suggestions! Cheers

Many people look at a 2/2 or 2/3 rota and think magic! 2 or 3 weeks at home... you forget that you have to do the time offshore as well. You wont find many people who enjoy either the 2 offshore or the 2/3 onshore - alot of my mates are bored out their tits when they're at home as everyone's working during the day, or their mates are on different rota's. Thankfully I'm usually only offshore for 2 or 3 days at a time (one mammoth trip lasted 6 days! Doing nothing on the Fulmar and getting badgered to hurry up and commission the smoking lunge again!) 8o but trust me, that is long enough!

NO! Leave Dixon on MOTD2! He deserves to be on a good programme with good presenters and good guests! None of this cosy cosy with those pricks Lineker and Lawrenson. Does anyone at the BBC watch MOTD? Do they realise that Mark Lawrenson is still on it? He gets paid for that as well...

Well said that man. I once read a list of someone's top 5 most hated players in Scottish Football. It read: 1. The Paul Hartley that used to play for Hearts 2. The Paul Hartley that used to play for Hibs 3. The Paul Hartley that used to play for Hamilton 4. The Paul Hartley that used to play for St Johnstone 5. The Paul Hartley that used to play for Raith Rovers. Probably couldnt have put it better myself, although The Paul Hartley that used to play for Morton would definitely have been up there, I hate Paul Hartley

Oh aye and a wee anecdote - was on a forum for a certain Paisley based football team and seen a thread about tickets for the up coming semi-final against R*ngers. Went into it to get some info to find it had been closed as there was 'already a thread running about this...' - a regular occurence on that site, with the mods locking threads to stop multiples of the same etc. So i scours around, finds the thread that was already running, only to find that Post #1 was a genuine query, Post #2 was a regular who was ripping the piss and basically calling the guy a dumbass, and the thread ran to 2-3 pages without another word about the tickets.

I see this with other forums I use all the time - regular users will come in, leave a smart arsed reply to a genuine topic, then one of his mates jumps in and has a wee blast back at him, then someone else wades in with their humourous quip and before long the thread is on page 3 or 4 and its got nothing to do with the topic. I havent been using this forum for long enough to know who everyone is and how serious they're being so tend to just lurk aorund the forum without saying much, but its very rare that I'll go past page 2 or 3 in a topic on here as after that it generally disintegrates into a cosy cosy mates chat. As for the layout of the forum, I'm still stumped. Most of my lurking about on here is spent looking for that topic I was reading the other day...o_O ?(

Bond are flying today AFAIK, My old man was due away this morning but has been given a check in for tomorrow instead. He was told that Bond were still operating, but certain contractors (BP & Maersk) had postponed or re arranged flights. RIP guys

Not sure if they do!? If the Blue Square deal is the same as the SPL's then the club gets bugger all for actually appearing live... They work it on a split pot basis - the money is all lumped into one and split between the teams on a league position basis, Top gets the most, Bottom the least. My team (St Mirren) have featured heavily on Setanta this season due to the new stadium situation (plus the last visits of of the Glasgow Mobs to the old stadium) but wont get any more money other than what we would normally receive for our end of season league position. SKY on the other hand, split 170k between the two teams featured in Scottish Cup games, and since Saints have featured twice already and at least() one more appearance to come, we've pocketed a healthy profit this year from TV revenues. Which is handy... Another drawback of the Setanta deal is that Saints have only had one 3pm Saturday kick off at the new stadium between it opening and the forthcoming split!

We played in Cellar 35 recently and there was a dude goin all papp on us for The Skinny, dunno if the pics ever made it into The Skinny (as I had never seen or heard of it at the time) but we did get a few back from him via email tho, were not bad pics.
