  1. Cheers min, someone else thought so too because it's sold. Thanks for reminding me about this thread
  2. Used it for the first time in anger at rehearsal last night and it seems to give the bass just a bit more presence and for want of a better word - aggro. I wasn't using it all guns blazing (which wasn't the point) - once I got the volumes balanced it was Drive, Blend and Treble all at 1 o'clock and that just seemed to impart the kind of edge I was looking for.
  3. I'm not renowned for my use of effects, but I bought an EHX Bass Soul Food on pay day. Only had a quick play with it but it seems to do what I hoped - impart a modicum of grit to an otherwise clean bass sound without losing the fundamental "bassiness" of it all. Blend knob very important. Seems quite responsive to dynamics (and not clipping your nails, twanggggg!). Will know more when I take it to a band rehearsal, but I'm pleased with it so far.
  4. Oh, your webpage just stopped me closing the tab by asking me if I'm sure I want to close it. FAIL
  5. I tried an EBMM Sterling a couple of years ago, I just remember being impressed with how it sounded - loud and assertive. I've never done a side by side comparison. My wallet says ignorance is bliss Picked this one up second hand (the SBMM SB14 has been discontinued so second hand is your only option) so less of a financial outlay/risk, but if the quality of Indonesia built G&L Tribute and Lakland Skylines vs. their USA counterparts is anything to go by then I won't be gassing for a USA EBMM any time soon. No, it's not perfect, you'll get none of that lush birdseye maple on the neck that so many EBMM instruments seem to sport, the screws for the 3 way switch are in at a bit of an angle and I bet there's two or three ratty bits of basswood under that lush blue metallic finish but to my ears and hands, most of the reasons these basses are cheaper is decorative.
  6. NBD (New bass day) - Sterling by Musicman SB14 (the Sterling-a-like instead of the Stingray-a-like). It's very blue and sounds very good indeed. The three way toggle (parallel, single (hum cancelling), series) is pretty subtle but does make a difference. The only thing I might do is add a thumbrest where a neck pickup would be - I'll try to play without but it's where my hand naturally wants to go. So yeah, it's blue and it's a bass. Looking forward to giving it a proper go with the band next week.
  7. A reliable drummer? It'll never catch on
  8. Thinking of selling my Gibson Non-reverse Thunderbird. It's one of the recent reissues Gibson put out a few years ago. Pelham blue finish, mahogany body, mahogany set neck, rosewood fingerboard. 2x TB+ pickups, 2 volumes, 1 tone. Hardware has been changed to chrome and a Hipshot Supertone bridge added, but it can be returned to the the stock black tuners and black three point bridge if preferred. In excellent condition, comes with rarely used hard case also in excellent condition. Looking for £500 (£450 if you don't want the Hipshot). Tryouts welcome. Pic of the Supertone bridge:
  9. This is tomorrow night!
  10. Thanks for doing that so I didn't have to. If you haven't already, try mixing red wine and cola in equal quantities, it's surprisingly nice.
  11. Dunno, but I think you'll get a more reliable answer from the vet than on here.
  12. You haven't been to see/planned to see any local bands in the interim?
  13. BC Rich Heritage Classic Mockingbird bass - neck through construction - maple neck, mahogany body wings with quilt maple top, ebony fingerboard, 24 frets, 34" scale. 2x split P pickups, controls are volume, blend, bass, treble. 2 band active EQ. In very good condition, tryouts welcome. £350 please
  14. I am the demon doggie from the ZX Spectrum/C64/Amstrad CPC game "Batman" - I found it hard to get other roles, particularly when everything went "proper" 3D - roles for isometric characters just dried up
  15. Sorry I'm late to this. My friend Rich Lewis in BoD works wonders with guitars and basses, he's done several jobs for me including refinishing, refretting and electronics. I recommend him highly. His email address is ou7shined@gmail.com
  16. Go for it, I've had no problems (been on the Insider preview thing since the middle of last year), Jayne's had no problems with hers (other than a bit of slowness, but it's pretty old), and I'm using it at work right now as part of a testing pilot group. There are occasional hiccups (mostly driver related) but if you need a hand, give me a shout. Make a cup of tea and put a record on, the upgrade will take a while...
  17. Sexism, racism, pugilism, it's just another -ism, isn't it?
  18. Be careful what you wish for, eh? Seriously though, thanks for taking the time to listen and provide feedback, it is appreciated. Stuff to work on for next time then, methinks.
  19. I don't think anyone pays enough attention to us for it to occur to them. Weirdo.
