  1. "Feedback" forum? I don't know if the horse is even near the water, never mind refusing to drink it Anyway, a couple of months ago we were on SHMU doing the Band of the Week thing and played a few tunes, unplugged apart from the bass. Two are on the EP, one isn't, so you can have a compare and contrast if you like. WHAT? YOU WANT ME TO LISTEN TO THE SAME SONG TWICE WHEN I DIDN'T EVEN WANT TO LISTEN TO IT ONCE? Damn right I do, tumbleweed.
  2. The farm takes up most of the day, and at night I just like a cup of tea. I mightn't be able to devote myself full time to the old racism.
  3. I wouldn't mind having a go of one, but being purely a bassist and more of an arpeggiator than a chorder I'd probably play it like I play a regular bass, mumble something about the strings being too close together/there being too many of them and put it back down again. Glad you're having fun with it though
  4. Yeah, then they're going to make Bedford Road (one of the roads which will help feed this wonderful new crossing) bus only by installing a bus gate between Meston Walk and Hermitage Avenue. Real smart move, ACC.
  5. That will be cancelled out by the new gym. Balance is restored.
  6. Two changes casa Matt First off, I modified my Yamaha SBV to give it active EQ (a spare EMG-BQC 3 band I had lying around) so I could beef up the sound a bit - someone whose ears I trust told me it sounded a bit too mid focused and lacked a bit of bottom end. So now I can dial in more bottom end and scoop out whichever mid frequency is too prominent. Not much space in there, so the only way to fit it all in was to make the controls from left to right as you're looking at them - bass/treble, freq/mid, stacked volumes - arse for elbow basically. Gave the neck a good sorting out while I was at it - too much relief so I couldn't get the action as low as I'd like without invoking the wrath of the fret buzz. I also bought myself a wee Christmas present the last time I was in Glasgow (dangerous place) - a G&L Tribute SB-2 in 80s-tastic white (stock image): Time to sell a couple methinks.
  7. Yup, been playing a fair bit of Bowie over the past couple of days too. Bowie looms in my early musical awakening also in the form of Diamond Dogs on tape (thanks Dad ). Have something that wasn't on the tape which I quite like, just because it's so very different to what ended up on the album
  8. Dunno if they're still putting music on in the big shed, but the Last Bus Depot/Cafe near New Pitsligo certainly used to put on gigs and there was PA there.
  9. I wish it would stop - our roof has developed a leak. Thanks, Frank, you dick.
  10. Surpringly not as weird as you'd think on first try. Only spent a few mins with a Dingwall but I think I'd be over any weirdness in an hour or so.
  11. Am I the only bass player here? Or more accurately am I the only bass player here who gives a monkey's about the gear? Stick this Yamaha SBV500 in your eyeholes because I can't just get a Jazz bass, can I?
  12. The post is dated 2014 so I think you've missed this one...
  13. Hmm. Something nice. Something nice. You have "bass" in your username, that makes me happy. Where's your nice thing about us?
  14. Yeah, fuck Radio 2, they're not playing the 'Spoons EP in its entirety on the hour every hour, the muppets. In fact, fuck all radio for not playing our stuff. Fuck you every promoter/venue/blogger who never even bothered to reply to email never mind listen to and act upon the music we sent you. And fuck all of you who have also failed in your obligation to listen to our stuff. I've had enough, I'm going to cry until I have enough tears to drown you all, you fucking philistines. Or, nah, we're cool. Can you imagine if I actually went off like that, like we've got some sort of birthright to have people listen to and play to others our music? *shudder*
  15. I'm not that worried - as long as there are musicians whose need for a 9V battery/lead/tool kit becomes apparent at soundcheck on the night, we'll have a job to do
  16. Oh great, it's shouty, I hate everything guy Ach, whatever tools get the job done. I wouldn't judge. Synth bass can sod off, but only because it puts me out of a job
  17. Also, if we want to break out of this Northern fortress of doom we could club together and help each other to gig swap with bands from other places. I'd like to start doing this but I really don't feel I've got the local audience attracting clout to make it work.
  18. It's not just young uns who could use advice on that one
  19. Hoping to spark off a mini argument mostly, from what I've seen.
