  1. And maybe creativity in general.
  2. Stopped taking the poster seriously when I read Dido in the post. Hehe!
  3. Radiohead don't belong in any category. They're unique! Also think the same AmbientMood. Used to love LedZep, couple of great albums. But on the whole, pretty lamey samey riffy shite.
  4. Keef Richards solo in Gimme Shleter. About 3 or 4 notes, no "speed" what-so-ever. Fucking great solo! Same for Sympathey For The Devil. Mick Taylor however..... This speed argument is just used by metal wanks who try to show off their supposed superiority to friends and other musicians. Get a grip! Most musicians who put their minds to it would be able to play 3000 notes per second, but who'd want to!
  5. Maybe that's why some folk think that it's over-rated. Would agree with Sgt Pepper although the other Beatles albums mentioned merit the praise heaped on them by fans and critics alike. Never Mind The Bollocks, yip and would throw in Definately Maybe. It maybe captured the moment and the imagination of a generation but the songs sound gash to me. Would also say The Bends and OK Computer but then I like Radioheads newer albums a lot better.
  6. Coldplay (Yellow was fucking abysmal and it's all gone downhill!)
  7. WTF? Of course, it should never happen and it will never happen! The Clash without Joe Strummer is like Queen without Freddy Mercury. Wait a minute..... .... Queen without Freddy Mercury, should never've happened. A fucked up joke! All these bands reforming on the back of hype could easily find some other challenging avenues to satisfy their musical itches. Like playing God Save The Queen on top of buckingham palace, Brian May, what a tosser! And that INXS shambles also. WTF is that all about? I'm sure the Clash will keep their fine reputation in tact. The rumoured reunion will never happen in my opinion. Time for some London Calling me thinks, that got me in the mood!
  8. Hi folks. I'm a singer/solo artist type who plays and writes my own material and have just recently moved to Aberdeen. I'm looking to get involved in the Aberdeen music scene and want to start off by hitting the open mic nights around town with a view to looking for gigs in other venues. Unfortunately, none of my friends are musicians so if any singer/songwriters are in the same sort of place as me and wants to buddy up with a view to hitting gigs and getting their own music out there possibly with musical accompaniment, PM me and we can talk. Also, if there are any guitarists interested in what I've said so far, I also like the idea of having an accompanying guitarist on board with a view to playing small acoustic gigs first and then building up to a fuller band set-up. Again, PM if interested and we can talk. Cheers
  9. There's an open mic at Nice'n'Sleazys in Glasgow on a monday night. The place is packed out every week, with about 200 people attended, impressive for open mic. Anyway, before each performance, the host shusses (is that the word?) the crowd down so there is almost complete silence for the singers. It makes for a wonderful atmospheric room and when there is a great heartfelt performance, it is magical. As I say, it's packed out every week so obviously, a fair amount of people like this sort of thing. Anyone who didn't doesn't have to go back. Obviously wouldn't work with a full band setting but works great with solo acts and duets.
  10. Topic for the songwriters of the board. I was just reading an earlier thread about a thoery question and basically, it just goes over my head cause i've never taken the time to explore it. Personally, I've never needed it, I don't get writers block and I always rely on intuition when writing songs. However, I have been toying with the idea of learning something about it, just to continue and improve my overall musical development. So what's the advantages of learning about some theory? Is it not restricting atall? How does everyone else write with regards to this? Just wandering if anyone had any input. Cheers
  11. I think I noticed the answer to the puzzle. When he stepped up to the mic to sing, the idiotic super dad/manager told him to remove his whatever from his face. So he moved it and reveald a monster tash forming on his face. Being at that sort of age, he probably feels awkward and feels the need to hide it. He'll need to get it shaved before any of the groupies get a hold of him!
  12. Volta

    Scum

That film alone would've surely enough to put anyone off crime in the Thatcher era. The rape scene was most shocking moment I've ever seen on film.
  13. I usually remeber about 3 or 4 dreams a night when I wake up. Some are pretty fucked up! I've had various outer body experiences in my dreams, just floating to the top of the room, then spinning round furiously at the top. I've had flying ones aswell, some when I flap my arms like a fucking bird and I start rising upwards. I also had a dream that I was on an acid trip once, i've never taken it in real life but read and heard plenty. That was a particularly enjoyable one, at one point I was in a train full of colourful toys in some sort of factory with weird music playing. Last night was a bit more mundane kind of, I was sitting talking to Charlie Watts, it was very vivid and I was trying to get him to listen to his drumming telling him that it was utterly fantastic.(which of course he knows) Hmmmm.... maybe i'm a bit fucked up!!!
  14. I agree with the 1st poster! To me and my ears, most new music is shit. Even the rock stuff. Maybe something to do with modern recording techniques or something else not agreeing with me. Anyway, what does it matter in the end. Songwriters write songs, bands make albums and it's thrown out into the mass of recorded music which has existed back to when, late twenties or something? It's one collective musical lump to go and explore. My next purchases will be Billy Holliday and Ella Fiztgeralds essential compilations. After that, something more modern maybe. It's all good!(well, you know what I mean)
  15. Polls and votes mean fuck all musically. Says more about who watches Newsnight more than anything. 30 somethings who are dissatisfied and bittered with the world we're living in. Cliffy Poo Richard was voted best Artist in the Universe on a Cliff Richard website forum. I was pleased to be informed of this apparently, conventional and common wisdom!
  16. The poppiest of pop pap if ever I've heard it. That opening line, "My life is brilliant" is pure drivel. And he repeats it twice just like the blues masters he obviously is influenced by.(sarcastic tone intended) Even if he genuienely thinks it, surely any half decent songwriter has the taste, humilty and soul not to come out with that muck. Then again, I'm guessing he's a pop puppet on strings heading for obscurity in a year or so. Had to get that out, my Mum has been blasting out his CD lately. Did I mention that I think he's cack!
  17. The albums called A Bigger Bang and is out on the 5th of Sept or thereabouts. I've heard a couple of tracks on the internet. One is called Back of My Hand and is a slow delta blues Robert Johnson type thing. Still got a bit of a slick production thing in the mix.The other is a typical open G Stones loose rocker called Rough Justice. Good enough on first listens but I'm not pretending that the quality is in the same league as Exile, SF etc. However, other die-hard fans are wetting themselves in anticipation after hearing the first few tunes so we might be in for a surprise. Doubt it would be liked by your typical Athelete loving indie kid but then who's to say a couple listens of Exile on Main Street would. Come on, it won't be hilarious, and they should bother cause many people still do care. Many folks will love it but for some, it will be painful to see how they sound now compared to some of their classic albums.(maybe me hehe!) That's my take anyway.
  18. You know yer Stones. The Brown Sugar 0f 1969 sounds every bit as delicious as the one we all know and love.(well, maybe some of us)
