  14. I suppose as the GM of Snafu and the one who sets the bar prices and decides what products make the grade and which ones don't, I should put a little bit in here just so we can lay to rest some of the points raised here. Ale On Draught - The quality of the product served will not be consistent as I can count on one hand, then amount of times I've been asked for a dark beer over the last year. And the fact that we've had Brew Dog IPA in for over a month now and sold only 3 bottles, surely answers that question. The price is dictated by the fact that we wanted to stock a different, quality (and local) product and that is reflected in the price. Changing Drink Prices - This is based on the marketability of different nights of the week, taking into consideration what nights are traditionally student nights and depending on what type of crowd we are expecting, since we have a varied music policy - thus resulting in different markets on different nights of the week. This is a synopsis - anyone who would like to debate this further is welcome to pop into the club, buy a beer (at 3.10 or less depending on the night of the week) and I'll have all the time in the world for them. We could go on forever debating this issue here. At the end of the day, we're not doing it because it is a current phenomenon or whatever - experience has taught us that this is the right thing to do, and results have shown that we are in fact following the correct route. Snafu/Arches - We have a lot of love for anyone doing what they want to do. The Arches, and anyone else for that matter, are our brethren! This award doesn't mean we think we're the best nightclub in Scotland. It is recognition that what we're doing means something to people other than us. And the people that turn up on whatever night of the week and pay whatever price for their drink are proof of that. We're not asking people to come to Snafu because we're independent, just come if you want your night to be dictated by your musical preference and not by your wallet. Thanks to Maxwell et all for your support! Gomes
  15. We got a couple of huge bassbins in about 6 weeks ago - hell of a difference.
  16. I think the problem here is that the council's approach in general can reek of inconsistency most of the time. The licensed trade is a very easy target. Initiatives that have been discussed or implemented in recent years include the smoking ban, banning of flyers, disallowing the advertising of irresponsible drink promotions (supermarkets??!!), fly-posting crackdowns (look at Edinburgh in the height of festival season) and extra policing funded by the licensed trade. Here's a prime example of inconsistency, this sums up what we have to work with on a regular basis: Last New Year, we were invited by the council to join in the street party instead of being fenced off like the year before. We would have to agree not to sell advance tickets, since the council couldn't guarantee entry if the street party was at capacity. Considering we could have sold quite a few tickets before the night, guaranteeing us income, this was a major concession. We agreed however. Secondly we were asked to bring our pricing in line with the other premises within the boundary of the street party. The pricing policy the council adopted? Vodkas for 1.25. They chose Archibald Simpson's pricing policy and asked the other venues to reduce their's in line with this. We refused. One of the biggest nights of the year for underage drinking and drunk and disorderly morons let loose on the streets and we were asked to reduce our prices by 50%?! I wonder where the staff of St. Nicholas House go for their afterwork drink?
  17. Tracklisting and Audio Clips :: Fabriclive 28 Mix
  18. A quick reminder about the new in-out system in place - please remember to get your hand stamped at the cloakroom before going outside for a ciggy.
  19. Between 10pm and 12am when the bands are on, the size of the crowd is varied depending on the acts. When the clubnight becomes free at midnight, we get a crazy rush of people (funny that!). We're trying to resolve this bottleneck. Everyone should see an improvement next Thursday. We welcome comments and complaints though, so just PM me or email gomes@clubsnafu.com.
  20. Yeah, we stamp at the door when the bands are playing but after midnight when the clubnight becomes free, there's no one to stamp. With there being big queues now, we need to implement a better system so that people are getting stamped all night. It's become hard to distinguish between who was in already and went for a smoke and who's just just turned up. The best way to do this is to use the cloakroom. Saves us having both a receptionist and cloakroom person. Works at the Sub Club in Glasgow.
  21. For the last three weeks, the DHC has been at capacity with queues a lot of the night. We're looking at resolving waiting times at the bar - more staff being the obvious answer. We'll also be possibly looking at limiting capacity so that it's not ridiculous moving about. We recommend to anyone heading down, get there as early as possible to avoid either queuing or not getting in at all. Doors open at 10pm and we've been getting a fair few people in from the outset. Also, we'll be changing the smoking in and out situation from next week. Once inside, anyone wishing to leave for a smoke or whatever should get a hand stamp at the cloakroom. There'll be enough signage informing everyone of this and door staff will do their best to check stamps from anyone heading out of the club.
  22. Cheers Spellchecker and Laura TMB for the PM's.
  23. Replacement of toilet bowls, new flush systems, replacement tap...and other regular work since there are a few disrespectful cads out there!
