  1. Pedants corner: It's actually http://www.lauraveirs.com/ I like 'Galaxies'. Bought the album but took it back. Wonder whether I should get it again...
  2. Good choice. I was going to say that it was abit harsh as they had another hit. However after googling only turning up 'Would I lie...' I stand corrected. I'll add: Terry Jacks - Seasons in the Sun Brian Protheroe - Pinball
  3. lepeep. I hate you. Thanks for wasting my lunchtime, mate.
  4. I'll second that. I'd add: Chris Woods - John Barleycorn Bonnie 'Prince' Billy & Matt Sweeney - Blood Embrace Bonnie 'Prince' Billy - Southside of the World & I See A Darkness Toots & The Maytals - Time Tough Gillian Welch - Miss Ohio, Elvis Presley Blues & Revelator Al Green - Georgia Boy & Beware (the 15 minute version) Sufjan Stevens - John Wayne Gacy Jnr/Kasimir Pulaski Day Sister Sledge - We are Family Roberta Flack - Reverend Lee TV Personalities - Part Time Punks ATV - Another Coke Velvets - Sister Ray I could go on. But for once I wont.
  5. I got one of these. Thought it was ace until I took the upgrade and it stuffed my software (fault may be fixed by now as it was wide spread). battery life not as good as I thought probably only 15 hours. You will need a broadband connection for first set up as it downloads the latest version off the net and takes 20 mins on 0.5Mb. It looks cool though. You might want to look at the smaller sony's that have flash memory like the NW-E405 which although small memory has 50 hours battery life! Also less likely to break as no moving parts. Size of cigarette lighter. Costs around 90-100.
  6. John Wayne Gacy Jr - Sufjan Stevens Master and Everyone - Bonnie 'Prince' Billy (the live version though) Some Say (I got Devil) - Tortoise/Bonnie 'Prince' Billy Song in Contravention - Momus Ventriloquist and Dolls - Momus PS does any body have a copy of Hippopotamomus on cd (some scum bag nicked mine)
  7. http://www.dominorecordco.com/site/index.php?page=releases&releaseID=619 out next monday...
  8. In one car: Stephen Malkmus - Stephen Malkmus Oh Brother Where Art Thou - OST Rapeman - Two Nuns and a Pack Mule Dr Alimantado - Best Dressed Chicken in Town Stina Nordenstam - People are strange In the other, some 'mix tape' of the missus's which has had some David Thomas and Can on it. Strangely, no Bonnie Prince Billy this week...
  9. It was indeed. Both nights. Except that I didn't really get to see much of Sonic Youth as I was selling t-shirts. They were kind of blown away by Mudhoney in Newcastle the night previous... Got to hang out with Suzanne Sesnic (cool rock chick) and Mudhoney and saw both their sets though. Wouldn't mind hearing the cassette sometime mind?
  10. Strangely enough until I heard Lark Descending the only thing on WWC cd that I liked was the one about Indian Tea. We've never managed to get a proper copy of that yet. So thanks for that are due (from me I mean).
  11. Wouldn't argue with you there. It is indeed a cracker. You heard that Chris Wood's cd?
  12. Somewhere I have a backstage passes for Sonic Youth in Glasgow. Does that count? And sadly somewhere I actually have the guest list for AC Temple (Embra venue). Well fuck me it had my name and address on the top of it (on Blast First headed paper no less). Just a pity it wasn't for Dinosaur or Rapeman...
  13. Yeah. I always get that wrong. Always have and no doubt always will! PS actually it's 'Lick my decals off, baby'. see your irritating pedant and raise you one...
  14. Bearing in mind that Nick Currie signed them to Analogue Barogue I'd have to say Momus were one of the most under rated acts of their/his time. Tender Pervert was streets ahead of it's peers (and that was saying something for 1988/9!).
  15. I'll third that. I found it a bit annoying but suspect that I'll be hide bound come 9.00 Monday night til it completes. Nice line in grim Northern 70's though don't you think? I can remember collars that naff (except mine were even naffer - I can particularly remember a cowboy print shirt that I thought was just ace at the time...).
  16. I believed you really. I was just jealous I didn't get to meet him. The album credits 'recorded in Aberdeenshire' anyways I think. Oh and I believe that Martin Simpson is playing with Martin Taylor and somebody else as 3 guitars at the Lemon Tree mid Feb. Blues, Folk and Jazz, each with their own sets as well as together. He's pretty good in my book.
  17. And bearing in mind the alt.country quote it should be noted that he's recorded with Will Oldham and Jason Molina. I'd love to hear it though (Amalgamated Sons of Rest). Any body heard it/got it? And he supported Bonnie 'Prince' Billy at least at London during his last tour. And if Peep hadn't been rabbiting on shite as usual I'dve heard lots more of his set as well. And hey you can edit stuff: I'd also add that there is a Momus/Anna Laplantine cd called 'Summerisles' which is 'inspired' by the faux folk of the Wicker Man film. The Tailor Of Dunblane and Spin Thread Annie are well worth checking out. http://www.cherryred.co.uk/analogbaroque/artists/momusannelaplantine.htm
  18. There is also Alasdair Roberts who recorded the excellent 'No Earthly Man' in sunny Forgue (unless Alan Cynic has lied to me). Earlier albums are more folky though. I really like the Chris Woods 'The Lark Descending' (but it is distinctly of the english variety...) Great versions of John Barleycorn and Lord Bateman.
  19. I really like that first Guilty Pleasures album. ELO, Alessi, Andy Fairweather Lowe, Helen Reddy and especially Brian Protheroe. I would like to point out that my favourite all time ever song is We are family by Sister Sledge (nothing to be ashamed of about that though). Mind you theres a couple of No Doubt songs I quite like though...
