  1. What's it all about? On the purely scientific side, how advanced are they in doing this just now? I'm a firm believer that absolutely everything we do boils down to psychology eventually, so it would be logical to say that there must be some element of science in it, and not based purely on faith. It leads on to the other question, regarding to the notion that we can predict strands of our future through our dream analysis. Again, this could boil down to psychology, if we take it in its rawest form. Is it possible that we could be so far advanced in this, sub-consciously, that we can see these things happening perhaps weeks or months before they actually occur. I mean, that if for example, you were to have a vision of your wife leaving you, in a dream, is it possible that you would know her mental state so thoroughly that you could predict things like her exact words, manner, where this would take place, the time of day and so on, and if these things were in place in the 'real' event, it could prove very similar to the individual's recollection of the dream. Memories become clouded in the conscious mind very quickly and it would be extremely easy to mould your recollection of a dream or vision to match a real event that proceeded it, with parts 'tweaked' to the way your memory 'wants' to percieve it, i.e. as close as possible to the actual event. This could also lead on to debating the whole issue of having a '6th sense'. This could also work on the same principle, the main operator being psychology. It's pretty heavy stuff, probably beyond my intellect, but I'd be interested to read what the rest of you seem to think about it. Thanks.
  2. Mhmhmmn, didn't get time off work. Is it likely that there'd be some t shirts left for sale by 9 30? If so, I'll probably just come along to the gig alone after work. If not, when are they next likely to be on sale? I think it was Mac who spoke to my friend Tobi about it in the Moorings a month or two ago (the German guy), and I'm looking for one to send over to him, plus one for myself. I'll probably have a look along regardless: is the entry cheaper if you turn up late?
  3. Most of my weekend will be taken up by working and some serious guitar practise, then if I'm lucky, I may manage to attend the Atom gig on Sunday night.
  4. I'm going to try and get the night off work for this, but if I don't manage, is it worth turning up about 9 30? What's the running time for the bands looking like, Atom finished about 11?
  5. It really depends how you define significance. Significant to whom exactly? It could be said that we're all living in our own "little small insignificant reality". How many of us self-actualise in the course of our lifetimes? How many of us make a difference? It's about one of the most meaningless, cliched statements I have ever read, like really, what the hell does it mean, within the context of Johnny Lucifer's comment?
  6. I think I'd maybe misjudged the standard of these grades. I went out and bought the Rock School Grade 3 book yesterday, and chose a bluesy piece I like out of it, which is like, ridiculously easy. From that, I'd imagine myself to be at least a 4, possibly a 5, but back to the topic of the thread, does anyone know any pieces that wouldn't be included in the Rock School book, around these levels?
  7. Could anyone recommend any grade 3/4 standard songs for guitar? I'd prefer if it was quite rock/metal orientated, since this is what I'm used to playing, but I'm really open to any style. Maybe people who have done the performance unit in Higher Music can help with this?

    Dv8

DV8 were awful. Can anyone actually confirm how old they are? The site isn't very helpful, but we seen them on the Main Stage and the bassist literally looked about 13/14 years old. I like the way that on the site it makes it look like they had a great reception in the UK, when they got booed to fuck during and after their set at Download.
  9. I'd think quite a lot of them would have, since they were on the main stage, directly before Wednesday 13, but we chose Flogging Molly instead, and I can't say I regret it.
  10. They definitely did, I remember telling Andy the story of it being the first Megadeth song I learnt to play.
  11. And on the subject of the thread: Motorhead, in my eyes, were the best band of the festival by miles, closely followed by Anthrax, The Dwarves, Paradise Lost, As I Lay Dying, Shadows Fall, plus the obvious ones (Sabbath, Slayer, Megadeth etc). Worst band would have to go to DV8- they were awful, but they didn't deserve the amount of abuse they got (bottles on the stage all the way through the set, booed off the stage etc). It was also a novelty to see them on the Main Stage, considering they all looked about fourteen (literally), they'd have been much more suited to the Napster Stage I think. The vocalist also pissed me off. "So, do any of you like alcoholic beverages?" Fuck off.
  12. Roughly: Blackmail the Universe, Skin O' My Teeth, Holy Wars, Wake Up Dead, Trust, She Wolf, Some others off the new album that I can't remember the names of. But yeah, they were very good, was just a shame I ended up so far back after being at Apocalyptica/buying food and so on. Some people complained of their lack of crowd interaction, but that's just Megadeth, he doesn't feel the need to do that stuff when their songs have so much to say in themselves.......or something! Shut up Kev.
  13. No they weren't' date=' I seen the entire Slayer set and Funeral For A Friend, before promptly leaving once I'd confirmed with myself that they were indeed the mystery band. I read on the bus coming home that Lacuna Coil had the same time spot as Slayer did? Never did get round to having a look at this- was it inside the arena then?
  14. Yeah, seen these guys at Download, they were a fucking great festival opener, I'll most likely be going down for a ticket to this gig some time this week, go and see, now!
  15. Black Label Society! Wishful thinking like....
  16. Maybe it could work on a smaller scale? i.e. if we were to be given 3 chances through the course of say, a year, to see the identity of someone who's given a particular scene point, positive or negative. It would make it a bit more of a challenge than simply seeing the whole lot because the lack of opportunities would force users to be selective? Maybe it would be a plan to reward users with high scene points too? Like, for example, to allocate them an extra chance per 100 points recieved or something, or the ability to give double scene points maybe? Just a thought, it's probably flawed, but I'm tired, meh.
  17. Mnmmnhh, I really like Still Life, but I haven't heard so much of their other stuff, I'll probably try and order some from One Up once I have some more cash, when's the new one due to be released?
  18. Einherjer and Bathory, also some Sepultura and Opeth.
  19. The problems with prisons is the level of social contact they seem to get with other inmates. They go in a petty thief, then come out a hardened super-criminal with a huge network of their criminal buddies for them to leave and start doing it again. If we made prisons like, the absolute worst place to be; make them sleep on a raised concrete block, give them enough food to live on and no more, no TV, little leisure time, maybe like, the bare minimum that human rights legislation would allow, it would make them detest the place after being once, and in THEORY, act as a deterrant to re-offending. On a separate note, does anyone think that sometimes 'disadvantaged' people in society recieve so many benefits that they actually become advantaged over the rest of the population, thus defeating the purpose of the exercise?
  20. The things people dish out negative scene points for is beyond me. I recieved two negative ones for my initial post in this thread, one of which was accompanied by the comment 'what the fuck?'. I can understand why these are given out for say, insulting other members or something, but I can't see anything particularly controversial about what I said....it's just a form of exploration into something that isn't seen to be 'socially acceptable', so what is exactly is the problem with this thread, to those who gave them? Or alternatively, you're narrow-minded prudish arseholes? Let me know, I'm curious.
