Pet Hate: The comments section of news articles. Why do I click? I never should, sometimes I just accidentally read one and I am reminded there is a world of hateful and/or ignorant people reading the same articles as me. Two recent new stories spring to mind - one on the 1916 Easter Rising commemorations and that some Scottish councils are discussing if they will fly the tricolour and another article on the sexual harassment women have faced online from appearing on the TV quiz show Jeopardy. I kind of get the impression that people outside of my friends list are turbo charged Jeremy Clarksons. Long story short: Irish = bad terrorists, women = asking for it.

I'm singing it right now, so yes it is.

I think that you are grossly oversimplifying things and need to consider the history of African American culture from slavery to the present day when you consider shows of "black power". Remember that black power as displayed by our Beyonce is about empowerment and equal representation. Phil Anselmo is coming from a position of privilege (being a white man in America), so a proclamation of white power from him at best suggests a vote for the current status quo, which is hardly equal on the race front.

Perhaps Adam Johnson will release an apology video where he doesn't apologise for the sex offences, but apologises for offending people.

I suspect that if he is proven guilty, Sunderland will sack him.

I thought this too, at no point did he say what he did was racist and therefore bad, he just was sorry to offend people. That is a really odd way to react to such negative criticism. This is an interesting point about appreciating an artist - how far do they have to go to offend your personal morals for you to no longer appreciate their art? I dare say there are not many fans of Gary Glitter & Lost Prophets left, but judging from the comments I've read about Anselmo's actions, there are hunners of apologists for his abhorrent actions.
