  1. You don't see three Scottish acts playing as being a good thing?
  2. Nope - it's My Latest Novel. Last seen in Aberdeen supporting Aberfeldy & King Creosote at the Tunnels a few weeks back.
  3. And the "sold out" notice on the LT website makes it all a bit harder.
  4. Great gig in Stirling last night by Thurston in Dream Aktion Unit & Thurston & Kim in Mirror/Dash - tiny, intimate venue that only held a couple of 100 people at the most. I was right at the front stage middle for both sets like the sad fan-boy SY-obsessive I am. Bad news is that my hearing suffered from Thurston's amazing feeded back during the TDAU set! Pretty noisy free improv with full on jazz saxophone, pedal steel guitar, mad drumming, droning double bass and the aforementioned feedback. Highlight was when Thurston got off stage, lay in the audience with his guitar & crawled through the crowd & then between a guys legs before picking the guy up on his shoulders. Absolutely insane. M/D started off with Thurston on acoustic guitar & Kim on vocals - both heavily processed with loads of echo. Thurston then spent half the set positioning the acoustic guitar on the amp for feedback while kim played electric guitar. Thurston ended up just playing effects while the guitar sat there & even tuned a radio receiver in at one point - bit weird listen to Radio 5Live or similar & have Chris Waddle talk about playing for England in a World Cup while Kim playde on.... Both finished the set hammering away at the cymbals on the drum kit that was sitting there. Awe inspiring stuff. I got some great digital pics & a 1 minute video of M/D on my camera phone - it's 1.3MP with a flash & I was a couple of feet from them so they came out ok. The event was sponsored by The Wire & some footage filmed by them is going up on their website soon. As an added bonus I got to talk briefly to thurston & Kim & got them to sign my event program (which is now framed alongside my signed Kill Your Timid Notion program by Lee Ranaldo) and I also got TDAU bassist to take a pic of myself with Thurston & Kim. Drove home in the pissing rain after the Dread Fool & The Din set & got in at 2am - very tired today but very, very happy!

  6. Dead baby turtles are ace - just as long as no one starts on monkeys (especialy when they're dressed as humans).
  7. ha ha, common ground! sorry if I came across as getting at you or a bit harsh in places. I think at heart we all want the same thing which is eclectic, interesting music in town rather than the safe, bland tours that seem to be well attended. I do accept this isn't always the venues or the staff at these venue's blame. You are right about a balance of understanding. I think constructive criticism & comments to the people concerned is the way to get what everyone wants - which means less bands like Maiden Scotland, The Complete Stone Roses and MacFloyd!!
  8. No, but I was cool enough to have been there when they played as support to Godspeed You Black Emporer at the Lemon Tree. Does that make me super cool not to even bother seeing them next month?
  9. It was myself that was commenting on Moshulu's lack of variety. I'm fully aware of costs & logistics involved in getting bands up. However, you simply seem to be saying "here's what's on - just be f*cking grateful, eh?" which I find a little scary - surely Ross (& The Lemon Tree for that matter) are open to suggestion from their customers & take criticism or comments on board accordingly? You seem to view watching a band live as simply an act of commerce which I find a little surprising. And I don't think I should necessarily be happy about the "eclectic" mix we have - why should I be happy that 80s novelty trash like Europe or Vanilla Ice are here rather than, say, SUNN o))) or Four Tet or Anthony & The Johnsons? Don't get me wrong - i'm not calling for financial lunacy on the part of venues. I am, however, looking for variety & enlightment when I view a band. Putting on a band is surely for the punters & not for the accountants? I'm not slagging Moshulu or anyone else off here, I just feel blind acceptance isn't an option - and I'm sure that Ross feels the same. One last thing, I've sort of been waiting for someone to jump to "poor" Ross's defence in a sycophantic or matey manner - looks like I wasn't disappointed there......
  10. http://www.leweekendfestival.com/ Got my ticket as soon as it was announced.
  11. Finally.... I've been waiting for the "Goo" reissue for ages - finally get my hands on the "Goo Demos". And, even better, I'm going to see them on Friday in Stirling (well, Thurston & Kim anyway...)
  12. He's a B*stard, eh? I would love to go but.... work commitments, etc has sort of ruled it out.
  13. Conclusive proof that most people are ignorant, tasteless cunts. Still, at least people bought enough copies of The Crazy Frog to keep them off number one.
  14. Considering they could have had the record company lawers sue the arse off the guy then I think they weren't too bothered.
  15. Is that with free postage though? play.com has it for 10.99 with free postage.
  16. I'm guessing the same. Get in there quick if you want it......
  17. Now, I'm not a fan of people purchasing CDs in supermarkets & especially in a Wal-Mart owned company but...... the new Foo Fighters double CD for 5.97?????? Including postage????? What's that all about? http://www.asda-entertainment.co.uk/mall/productpage.cfm/asdaentertainment/6591640 Incidently, you may want to hold off before ordering as there's a version with a DVD available as well.
  18. oh, the 2nd - I should really read threads all the way through. I am tempted though.....
