  1. Not sure what you consider "indie art school poser". I don't think the likes of the Kaiser Chiefs, MGMT and Bloc Party, for example, would be consider "hipster"-ish enough for such a description. I'd say it appears to be a pretty honest and not overthought list given the great variation in popularity, credibility etc of the bands/artists on it.
  2. To who ever wants to play slap bass (cause I'm totally lost as to who it is here) just pretend you're giving someone the middle finger, turn it upside and curl the tip of your finger under your D or G string. Then pretend your hand is rotating upon that finger, and when it does so let the outer side of your thumb "slap" the E or A string, and "pop" the D or G string with your curled up middle finger and BANG, you're playing slap bass! You might want to do some fretting with your other hand and throw in some muted "ghost" notes or whatever you call them for a more percussive fidgety effect in between actual fretted notes. Now wasn't that helpful, you don't even need lessons now!
  3. Pay on the door? Edit: Just noticed the first post says it's 12 on the door, oops!
  4. Celtic are in fact better than around 70% of the clubs which compete in European club competition, so logic follows that all the clubs worse than them don't deserve to be playing in Europe either. You would much prefer to see European club competition scaled down to a small elite would you?
  5. What Jan Deal of Hesselink said... Oh and kiss my plums you degenerate.
  6. I'd be happy with that, so long as they don't bring meathead boyfriends to throw pints.
  7. The Britannia High bit was too good. The rest of the episode was crap in comparison. I like Lisa Tarbuck but that portion of the show was very pointless.
  8. Boy do I ever feel stupid!
  9. "You must not drink and bake" No idea what film it is from, just know from an Arnie soundboard.
  10. I downloaded Dazzle Ships the other day and it's effin superb. I can't start. Bought the album when it came out and it's pretty good, but something about them annoys me and I can't listen to it anymore. Can't put my finger on it.
  11. I don't like the style of their advertising/marketing, but this really is disgraceful.
  12. It's a bit disappointing really. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, but it's just a bit dull.
  13. I listen to Sound of Silver, which seems silly given the existent of an LCD record specifically intended for running.
  14. Best 3 Bands heard this year for the first time - Wild Beasts, Junior Boys (had heard before but never properly lent them my ears), Momus Best gigs this year - British Sea Power @ ABC, Glasgow, Hot Chip @ The Forum Best Releases of 2008 - 1. Wild Beasts - Limbo, Panto 2. James Yorkston - When the Haar Rolls In 3. Beach House - Devotion 4. M83 - saturdays=Youth 5. TV On the Radio - Dear Science 6. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! 7. The Week That Was - The Week That Was 8. Eugene McGuinness - Eugene McGuinness 9. Okkervil River - The Stand-Ins 10. Aidan John Moffat - I Can Hear Your Heart Best Result of the Year - Dundee Utd 0 - 1 Celtic/Aberdeen 2 - 0 Rangers on 22nd May 2008 (the inevitable failure of the Caribou gig on the same night to top the elation of winning the league almost made me put it as biggest disappointment, but that would be a bit unfair) Best Purchase of the year - Not terribley exciting really, but The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay was good, because it was on a whim, based purely on the book's cover and because it introduced to Michael Chabon. Yes Man of the year - Going to an Italian beach party where a band was actually playing that Mambo Italiano song. Biggest Dissapointment - Drinking with the reckless regard for sugar content which results in a diabetic spending part of his first holiday in years in hospital. Shout out to the good people at Cagliari General. Musically albums by British Sea Power and Magnetic Fields. Looking forward to 2009 - Getting a proper job...although it may not actually happen and I'm not really looking forward to it all that much. Overall - 2008 has been ok.

    The Office

Nobody mentioned Garth Marenghi's Darkplace. My favourite British comedy of recent years along with The Office.
  16. Song writing. Some very unimaginative compositions on it I think. Not a fan of the songs by Aerogramme, Mike Heron, Norman Blake, Karine Polwart (credit for the crap words goes to Edwin Morgan though), Vashti Bunyan or Emma Pollock.
  17. Aberdeen sucks, let's all go to Inverness...the city of doom, sitting pretty in the Highlands, perfect depiction of gloom! YouTube - Spit Dis - Morgue City

    The Office

I'd definitely say the British Office i better. It's easy to be part of a Ricky Gervais backlash now, but The Office may well be the best comedy of the past 10 years.
  19. I've read the Damaged Land: New Scottish Gothic Fiction which was edited by him. Like Ballads of the Book, it varied considerably in quality.
